Thank you for this video! Just subscribed. I'm currently debating whether to get an SSD or HDD NAS. I was going to buy the HDD from Synology, but I'm a bit concerned with speed rates. I edit 8k raw from Reds and Nikons and throw a lot of graphics on top of them. I can't afford any video studdering. I might have to bite the bullet and spend $$$ on the SSD format. By the way, I loveee the lighting in your video! It's perfect! Take care.
Thanks for the comment and sub 12Y Films! You edit 8K raw?! Wow! I’m assuming with a proxy workflow for this? If it’s just you or you and one other then I’d 100% recommend going SSD and connecting via Thunderbolt for extra speed boost. Thunderbolt can achieve up to 40Gbps bandwidth so would outperform 10G connection , perfect for 8K editing but there’s only usually two thunderbolt ports on the QNAP NAS’. Thanks! My studio set up is only small so had to do a lot of lighting magic to get it how I want it.
@@DigiProTips Some proxies. Just the M1MAX and 64gb ram. R3d and N-Raw files playback smoothly even when using those files for multicam editing. I only introduce proxies when animations get hectic. Thanks for the advice!
Great video, well done! I am about to get bigger storage for my Synology DS720+ What do you think about Toshiba Enterprise Capacity MG08ACA 16TB, 512e, SATA 6Gb/s (CMR) Since I can get this right now for 199USD
Thanks Norain! I’d say that’s a great price for 16TB! Toshiba are a decent brand for NAS drives but what I’d say is, are you replacing all drives or just one or two? I never feel easy about having mixed brand drives in the same NAS. With different power needs and slightly different performance specs between them it opens the possibility for failure in my mind.
@@DigiProTips hey, thanks for the fast reply. Yes sure, I am replacing both slots with 2x 16tb. So that I upgrade from 4tb to 16tb. The 1gb/s Ethernet connection is enough for my needs and I have the option to upgrade to 2.5gb/s
