Ellie, you did not have to change hats. Be yourself. I'm sure there are people that don't like your car but you wouldn't trade it. If they were triggered by the color they just need to get over it.
The lack of foresight is astounding. No automated return system is wild. What if the crew was incapacitated mid flight??? Who the hell is running NASA!??
Yes it did and she shows it often with it flying off during transport prior to mounting to the ULA rocket at NASA causing one of the many delays over the last seven years for this failed mission.
Boeing says it has lost $1.6Billon, so far, on StarLiner. How much extra has NASA pissed away on StarLiner, above and beyond the fixed price paid to Boeing? Sadly, we Tax Payers will never know.
The Starliner crew are ASTRONAUTS. They LOVE space, and the experience of being in Space is why they train, so though there are downsides to their extended stay, it's not as if they were miserable...it's SPACE after all, the goal of their hard work in their profession. But it is notable that twice the money got less that half the performance from old Boeing. Lets hope new Boeing does better by their spacecraft and whistleblowers.
I didn't see comments enabled on the live stream. What I thought you missed with regard to significant news (or you just didn't think was important enough to address) was the statement that (paraphrased), "the thrusters were not certified (designed?) for the heat environment present on the starliner". WTAF? Boeing used a set of thrusters that are not up to the heat environment of Starliner operations?? HOW IN THE HECK CAN THAT HAPPEN? How can Boeing not have been 100% certain what, exactly, would be the "heat environment" Boeing was designing FOR?
This should not have been a test flight, but a validation flight. I am delighted that StuckLeaker is returning on uncrewed and SpaceX's Dragon to the rescue.
,…. Bill Nelson was asked why NASA still funds Boeing and Nelson replied that Boeing has been a great partner in the past and is doing a great job with SLS (Boeing is the problems that SLS is encountering),… Jim Free touted Boeing's great and long history with ISS,.... all the delays and problems getting ISS to orbit were due to Boeing's long legacy of problems with its poor testing regimes, cutting corners on engineering analysis, including other problems,.... Boeing hoping that NASA would fined errors and pay Boeing extra on cost+ to correct,... these issue are not new for Boeing,... Boeing's grown accustomed to letting NASA do its engineering,.... it behaved this way with ISS development,... and with SLS,... and it continues with Starliner,... we all want Boeing to succeed,... we do,... and I hope they do succeed,..... Boeing needs to get is self together.
Why does NASA work so hard to make sure Boeing stays in this? If anyone else failed so much they would be laughed out of the room. So much time and money wasted on Boeing.
Because, Boeing is in states that have Congress people who vote to approve these big bloated programs. As you can see in SpaceX vs Boeing, the bigger the program the more chance you get more money.
Bowing is a job Creator and employees are across the country up until the contract was approved Boeing had their shit together from the outside now they are a failing company and we still need the product. But we should try to find a replacement and fine Boeing for incomplete contract.
@@Columbus1152 Yep. I grew up in Seattle and Boeing was a huge part of that area and was well respected. But no more. They have for decades sucked money from NASA, always over budget, always late but they always get the contracts. You know they are lining someones pockets and have for a long time. Not to mention they can't seem to even build safe airplanes anymore.
NASA just announced this Sat Aug 24, Crew Dragon of Space X to return Butch and Me Williams to Terra Firma in February 2025, 6 mts after Starliner took them on a one way trip to ISS, yeah the trip was to be a roundtrip & for a week but they got MARRONED.. 😅
That would be 8 month. They arrived on the ISS on June 6th 2024 so if they return in February 2025 (lets assume Feb 6th) this will be an 8 month trip and that's IF they come back on February 6th 2025.
The ISS has become the Hotel California. You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. 😁😁 (It makes you wonder how much information they can glean from just the command module portion when it arrives back on earth, considering all the rocket problems appear to be in the service module that burns up on re-entry.)
Only government would call that contract fixed price when it still pays cost on all "reasonable changes" for safety or replacement of failed parts. Fixed price here is just fixed profit margin.
nasa reps can't go speaking on "gut feelings" that one or the other one might have had over the years. Bowing is a huge company that attracts the most cunning snakes and sharks. Not only are the executives highly skilled at milking boioing for every dollar that might go unnoticed, but they will be particularly masterful at bump-set-spike on contracts with the government. Nasa personnel are good at science and space, and the skills of weaseling take just as long to master as any other skillset. It's childish and irresponsible to place blame on nasa personnel for not having the elite skills required to know the difference between someone trying to take the rug from beneath them, and someone trying to give them their all.
I don’t seem to remember Boeing doing like Elon did with his dragon capsule, launch it and then have an emergency escape as Boeing done that no because they don’t know how they just know how to take my money. I’m tired of Boeing taking my money is time for Boeing to be set aside and a new aircraft company being built one that is trustworthy and safe. Maybe if there are lawsuits going against Boeing they will straighten their company out. I know if I was on that plane to Hawaii I’d have about a $30 million lawsuit on them and advise the rest of the people on that flight to do the same, the only way to make things safe to make those people pay in money. The only way they straighten up used to be such a fantastic name but now they’re just an accident waiting to happen.
It's a government agency. They are protected by law from the typical legal process unless they agree to it. We would need a lawyer who specializes in this form of law to really know the options that would be available to their families if something happened.
@@alanholck7995 I think that is pretty much limited to service members in the military. Though it does arise thru sovereign immunity, so it might be an interesting case to argue. Again, a good specialist lawyer would probably know.
First question where is Boeing?? !11 I’m sorry, that’s too little too late from Boeing & NASA. We shouldn’t be seeing such a big problem in the third flight, first human flight. Boeing dropped the ball a long time ago when they decided to go with the same capsule design from the 60’s. Boeing can do all the analysis, testing, & evaluations that are necessary, but they should’ve thought about that when they were building it!!!! Boeings’s reputation is in the can, especially with all the whistleblowers. I would’ve hoped NASA would’ve kept their distance, but I think they screwed up also.😡🤬🤬🤬
Hindsight is 20/20. most of the major issues with Boeing, and whistleblowers, have only been since the crew contract has been signed. The issues with SLS is stunning since it is also NASA's fault as well. In other major government procurement systems the purchasing agency has engineers observing the production of the product. They take part in everything from design, to scheduling, to being in the factory while the product is being built. That doesnt absolve Boeing of anything, at all. But blame needs to be placed on NASA too, and heavily for their lack of oversight and massive waste. This is a track record (James Webb) was horribly over budget, just about every rover or satellite they build internally is also hugely expensive.
If Boeing worked well with NASA and was cooperative that will be the first time in years that Boeing has been cooperative with its customers, employees, or any other stakeholders in the company except for certain major shareholders.
I find it disgustingly arrogant that none of these people expressed any gratitude whatsoever to SpaceX for being a ready and capable partner to bring these astronauts home.
It sounds to me that when they did testing at White Sands they were able to FINALLY identify the actual problem. The doghouse that encloses the thruster is overheating. In addition, when the thruster overheated an actual physical issue occurred that resulted in the oxidizer flow being reduced to the thruster, reducing performance or even causing failure. They now understand the mechanism of the thruster failure. They need to FIX IT. No crewed reentry in its current condition, period.
They are coming back on Space X craft not Star liner. Boeing is a disgrace to the industry. I can't believe they keep having press conferences for explaining Boeing failures. Keep up the great work on reporting. SpaceX is an amazing company and keep reaching for new heights.
THIS DECISION IS A WIN for FREE SPEECH and the IMPORTANCE of COMMUNICATION and of getting ALL the OPINONS AVAILABLE CONSIDERED !! THANK YOU & WELL DONE !! 😍😍😍 (Yes, I Hope that SPACEX was also consulted & thanked!) x
Congrats to (always “stitch in time”) SpaceX & shame on BOTH Boeing & NASA for allowing such inept designs into space & allowing this debacle to drag on so endlessly, w/ yet more kludge left. I suppose what’s left of Boeing’s “best” will follow their betters over to SpaceX (where Columbia/Challenger cultures are not allowed to persist, as w/ B&N. -Get that Kamala?).
You, the taxpayer, will! It will be the Crew-9 mission, one of the SpaceX/Dragon contracted missions but now we are only getting half the service NASA paid for.
Feel sorry for the two Space X Crew 9 who won’t be going to the ISS. All that training on any experiments/chores these two have done, has gone to naught. Hopefully they can go any future space flights.
The 2nd bench hasn't been certified. Dragon also uses surplus mass to bring up cargo. So nothing is free. However, it should be considered. Do the hard pros and cons and tell the public the choice.
When he talks about "understanding the physics" he is trying to make is sound like they are on the forefront of technology, going where no engineer has gone before; and not just an iteration on what has gone before. You would think they are working at the LHC.
I live in Houston and realize the culture of NASA is trying to be something different than the past however I wish we could pull ego's and the camp like structure could be removed from these decisions. It would be interesting to give an advanced AI that could make these decisions all the parameter and let it give a high level opinion based on original intent and requirements and not slip in all the human factors. Human factors being Company to Company preference, cost, pride, etc. There is definitely a Commercial crew vs NASA human space flight, also Commercial Crew companies Boeing and SpaceX and fundamental belief in processes that should be followed vs how they are actually followed.
Could coverage. I'm glad you didn't talk over the very long press conference. I avoid prying into the personal lives of creators, however now that your beau is commenting (and quite relevantly, I might add) on your live feeds, could you please introduce him from now on? I applaud your staying out of politics. I really like pink "Make Space Great Again" hat, too bad some viewers didn't get it.
The FAA lets Boeing “self regulate” and we get the MAX series! The NTSB lets Boeing block incident inspectors and we get the Alaska missing door bolts. Now NASA let’s Boeing design ad how and we get Starliner. See any trends or common themes here?
Ellie you are knocking it out of the park. You took the hopeful wind out of a few million red blooded American men by mentioning your boyfriend Ellie My dimples are three deep right now Congratulations Ellie They are lined up a million deep waiting for that guy to screw up I promise Smiling Todd
Yes, but the Dragon is certified for only four seats. NASA choice years ago. But it allowed five seats on the Starliner to give Boeing bragging rights. The Boeing bias at NASA goes back a looong ways.
What a shame, I wanted to watch it, but the subtitles setting in other languages is disabled. But that's okay, I'm watching it on other channels too. Thank you dear Ellie, have a good weekend. 💖🌟🚀💝👨🚀
Hey NASA, where were all these questions and your oversight of Boeing Starliner for the last 10 years? How are you just finding this out now? This is on you, not Boeing... you let them get away with a half assed job of design and test and they took you up on the offer. The result should be no big surprise to you.
"Starliner has performed exceptionally well overall". Parallel universe stuff. Or, a lot of heads are on the block at Boeing and at NASA - and rightly so. Fiasco. But then, there's SLS!
The ONLY WAY NASA can come to grips with reality to their situation, is to have SpaceX come to the rescue. Their reckless abandon with all the 'other' contractors, which have been decades late and greatly over budget have put us way behind in our space endeavors. And have not given credit to where it's due in regards to SpaceX. NASA, please come to your senses !
Hi Ellie Didnt ya hear NASA has Kidnaped 2 astronauts lol You might want to check out the Game No Mans Sky, It had a ruff start but has become a pretty good game anyways Have a great day!!!
