I took the Friday off work, the 1st day it was open. Dad and i would go together and watch the races. Use to love the team trailers, buying more t-shirts etc. Mom and Dad bought me a ride in a race car around California speedway for my birthday one year. Dad is now gone! (Died in 2018) Now California Speedway is gone too. But the memories of dad and i at the races, will live on.

this is the Death of a once great Race track, I have zero plans to go to the Smaller version of this track. Totally a Sad day in the Racing community.

Hey Vern - I might go to the first race to see if its a total pooch screw. But I was just at Martinsville and it wasn't great. A track like Dover might be ok, High Bank Concrete might work, but I doubt they'll do anything that cool. I was out at the track yesterday and the turn 1/2 walls are now completely gone and about another 1/3 of the grandstands are also gone. Lastly, they were peeling up the back stretch asphalt. I assume the walls down the back stretch are next and then on to turns 3/4. I am headed back out there next week and will put up an update, stay tuned. thx...

This really makes me so very sad 💔 I’ve been coming to my home track since the early 2000’s and have loved every minute of it. I was there for the last race! I definitely had to stay for the xfinity race. I hadn’t seen a night race there in a billion years. It was awesome! I just sat there soaking it all in. I didn’t want to leave knowing there wasn’t going to be a next year! It was definitely a great ride! Love you AutoClub ♥️ It definitely was a great video though. Truly Amazing the that has been done. @@AcAdapterInc yea its always sad to see a raceway go, but its comming back as a s short track, and a half is still big enough for nascar racing though its not the same as the all out superspeedways, but it seems that people like the smaller tracks as the drivers skill come in more of a factor, and less likely a good engine is all it takes to win it unless its your guy or girl winning, many of the crews also like the smaller tracks as less harsh crashes and easier on the equiptment running, I though like the big tracks of all out speed and you got to have some big tracks for certain classes of racing like indycar silver crown nascar f1 and the endurance racing like daytona or le monds, or modified racing, we lost many middle size tracks this year as far as dirt goes

I LOVE demolition and construction, but seeing the speedway get demolished is less than satisfying, I am also amazed at how quickly they wiping this facility off the map. NASCAR has quietly pivoted from "going" to build a short track to we "still plan" on building one. Imo, this was always about the inability to pass up $569 million and not NASCAR"s narrative of wanting to improve Fontana by giving fans another short track, but we'll see.

I have to say that you summed up the situation perfectly. Almost good enough for a bumper sticker. I was at Wilkesboro this year and the racing was more like a parade than a race. Hopefully with the repave it will perform better in 2024. I really hope Nascar replaces Fontana with Rockingham. That is a much better facility than Iowa. thx...

Hey LA - I really didn't expect them to pulverize the grandstands. I figured they would disassemble them and reuse the material. I was wrong. Looks like they are just going for the quickest method. Is quite something to see, but a sad sight at the same time. I will be at the track all month, so you can expect to see the pace pickup in the days ahead... I really hope to be there when they take out the front stretch. I snuck in the north east gate and got a few pictures, but was quickly removed (like within 3 minutes). I will try again, cause it is a great access point. Would love to get one of those safer barrier pieces for my garage :) thx....

My favorite memories were the times spent with my family at the races. And In 2011 when Kevin Harvick passed Jimmy Johnson on the last lap to win. I was in the Pitts next to Harvicks Pitts when we won. It was awesome. Thanks for the memories. Please Nascar build the small track asap so we can gain more racing memories .

One of the best features of this facility was the Family oriented atmosphere it provided. I was never a big fan of the actual racing, but the shopping, food and party scene was unlike any other track. I agree 100%. I will miss it. Thanks for sharing a great memory. What a shame. I drew up some of the preliminary concepts for this track back in ’89 - ’90 I think it was, for the Agajanians before the Kaiser steel smelter was demolished. Lost the blueprints years ago unfortunately. Roger Penske was the eventual developer.

Sad to see another race track in Southern California being torn down... If Riverside was still there and had been updated over the years, everything would be there from F1 to sports cars. Sad what NASCAR has done to their own sport and series.

It would be a travesty if Sonoma and the LA Coliseum were the only West Coast tracks. We need to stay engaged as a community and let Nascar know what we want. @@AcAdapterInc The issue with California Speedway was that a track of this design combined with the over bearing rules of NASCAR is that it is a "follow the leader" track. G1 this year was all one driver nd car as far as leading, however the rest of the field had a lot going on with a lot of passing and battles. NASCA Cup used to have this sort of racing until the innovation angle was taken away. Irwindale is a great track and facility. It has been going to close for the last 10 years; sounds like the battery in the clock is running out. The only thing I would have done different at Irwindale was to have put in a permanent pit lane and had more races with pit stops. and I would have had turns 1&2 be a higher angle bank than 3&4. Would have made for some real exciting passing and driver skills. Lastly, they could have done more advertising. A lot of people in Southern California still don't know that the track is even there.

Holy shit this is sad. I’ve been there for Cup races, the Busch series races, IROC, CART Indycar races, track days. Last time I was there was a few years ago when Logano won the Xfinity race. Can’t believe they’re tearing this down.

Hey Desert - So much change so fast is highly disappointing. One high note may be Rockingham. The renovation there isn't going as fast as I would like, but there is allot of momentum to bring that track back. So maybe by 2025 we will see another legend brought back to life. I was also recently at Kentucky Speedway (video in my catalog), and it looks like it could be brought back with very little effort. So hopefully we will get some great race tracks back in place of the ones we are losing. Stay tuned, updates on the way. thx...

Other tracks have named the parts of the track (rockingham has Benny Parsons, etc), Greg Moore would be a great idea for naming the future Press Box or grandstands. Hey Ts6 - That was exactly what I was thinking as I watched them just pummel the walls and grand stands. I guess the scrap value exceeds the reuse value. Although, with all the climate stuff, you would think that as a sign of responsibility, they would reuse these at local schools or other facilities. Oh well, was amazing to watch. Hey Al - There is security all around the perimeter and I can't even get permission to go onsite for photographs. I've heard stories that folks have been given random grand stand signs, but I haven't seen any of that. Hey Jeff - That is exactly what I was thinking. I never expected them to pulverize the site. From a state that preaches recycling and renewable, this seems to be a slap in the face. They also could have sold some of these items (signs, pieces of the speedway, safer barrier walls) to the fans as souvenirs. I would have gladly paid for a piece of this speedway. Security is everywhere, so there is little opportunity to pick up a scrap. Doesn't mean I wont keep trying :) thanks for watching... thx...

My favorite auto club memory as of recent. Because I can’t recall anything that far back. Is probably Kyle Busch’s 2023 auto club win. That one just had a feel good moment to it. Kyle returning to Chevrolet becoming a fan favorite captures a win right off the back. JGR clearly made a huge mistake by letting him go. But hey. Sponsorship comes is everything these days. If you can’t put some good sponsorship together. Your left without a ride and looking for a new team to drive for. And I believe he found the right fit at RCR. Yea he could’ve gone to say a spire Motorsports. They could’ve decided to let Ty Dillon go early. But no I think RCR was the right fit for him. I’m excited to see what he can accomplish next year. A Daytona 500 win possibly,maybe a coke 600 or pulling off that championship everyone wanted to see from him this year. The speculations are endless. And if he gets off to a good start. There’s no tell what he will be able to accomplish.

Hey Noah - I am also a HUGE KB fan. He is like the Michael Jordan of racing. He just wins and I love that. I also loved the Fontana race that Kyle Busch was leading and lost a wheel down the front stretch. Running on 3 wheels, he was still yarding the field. Such great memories and such a great driver. Thanks for sharing those great memories. I am sure Kyle still has many wins ahead. I will be in Fontana all month, so stay tuned for updates. I hope for something like Dover, with High Banks and concrete. But time will tell. I was there for my first race in 2014 where my favorite driver kyle busch won in 2016 for jimmie johnsons last championship season in 2018 where truex won 2019 for kyle busch 200th win 2022 2nd points next gen win and 2023 for the great send off. This next short track better be the best of all time ill miss this place bad 😭

I didn't know that this was happening. What a loss. This is where Gil de Ferran set the closed course speed record in 2000 of 241.428 MPH in his open-wheel CART racer. This track was virtually an identical clone of Michigan speedway. Only the banking was different.

At the time it was built, no one wanted that ground, but now that the community has grown around it, suddenly it is worth more as condos and industrial. This is honestly beyond heartbreaking to watch… I won’t lie in saying that I didn’t shed any tears. The emotion of seeing something as concrete as this is just… unexplainable. I’ve always loved the racing here. One more exceptionally unique tracks gone… No turning back now. @@AcAdapterInc, we honestly are. Unfortunately, what done is done and there is no going back. It’s just business anymore. The land was too valuable, I get it. As a truck driver myself, I understand the importance of new warehouses, especially in that area. It also seems like a lot of the tracks are starting to have complexes developed next to them or even on the sites of old tracks. New developments, either residential or commercial, are a major death sentence to a lot of amazing tracks. Hell… look at Cletus and the Freedom Factory and Bradenton Motorsports Park. They are being encroached upon by housing developments which could potentially cause problems down the line with Karens. Also, the Karen’s are winning with the renovation of Nashville Fairgrounds (which honestly would prefer to see the Superspeedway stay open alongside it, but I’m about 100% that once the Fairgrounds are renovated, SMI will close the Superspeedway again). Racing in general, is in massive danger in losing a lot of amazing complexes and there is no stopping it.

Hey Salvador - Funny you say that, I used to sit in that grand stand as well. I loved the vantage point of the exit of turn 4, also the entrance to pit road. Most of the "Action" happened trying to get on pit road. Would have been nice if they took the stadium apart instead of pulverizing it, but I guess the cost benefit analysis said its cheaper to destroy than to reuse. Hey AK - Very sorry for missing this comment. I actually went to the management multiple times seeking opportunities to purchase signs, pieces of grandstands and even pieces of asphalt as souvenirs. I was swiftly escorted off the premises every time. So seeing the absolute pulverization of these materials is heartbreaking. I suspect they felt it would be more trouble than it was worth, but I am sure they could have raised some serious cash that could have gone to charity while make some fans very happy. Rockingham wont see a Nascar race anytime soon. The biggest reason is that it is independently owned. SMI and ISC will not loose a race to give it to an independent owner. Second, they got like 10 million to fix up the facility and some of it has already been used. They will need a lot more than that to make this place Nascar Cup ready. Also the owner is not really into racing. He said (suggested) himself he is thinking of music concerts for this place.

NASCAR had too many speedways for cars that did not race well on speedways. Fans asked for short tracks and road courses. NASCAR gives the fans more short tracks and road courses. Hey Scott - You summed that up very well. Years of bad decisions wrapped up in one eloquent paragraph. Then to confirm your thesis they add Iowa to the 2024 calendar. I have no memories of any great races at Iowa. I am going to go there early next year to take a look, but the track is right next to an airport so my requests to fly there have been declined. Ground photography is great, but the only way i'm getting an aerial view is if I rent a helicopter and I don't think Iowa rates that level of effort. But who knows...
