NASCAR Auto Club Speedway DEMOLITION Update - December 2023| NASCAR Cup Championship| AcAdapter Inc

In 2023, the track was closed for reconstruction as part of the Next Gen California project. As of May 2023, NO CONSTRUCTION HAD BEGUN. A real disappointment…. Formal Construction began in September 2023, and AcAdapter has been there every month to ensure we document this historic change.
California Speedway (known from 2008 to 2023 as Auto Club Speedway under sponsorship) is a 2.000 mi (3.219 km), D-shaped oval superspeedway in unincorporated San Bernardino County, California, near Fontana. It has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. It was also previously used for open wheel racing events. The racetrack is located 47 mi (76 km) east of Los Angeles and is near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is owned and operated by NASCAR
Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway's main grandstand has a capacity of 68,000, additionally it features 28 skyboxes and has a grand total capacity of 122,000. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. Since 2011, the track has hosted only one NASCAR weekend each year.

As much as it hurts that this track is about to be gone in just weeks, I can take one positive. And that is that NASCAR’s plan for the short track is alive. I’m a big believer in this short track, but only time will tell. And as always, great video

Hey LA - I agree 100%... I also really like the track design that they've drawn up. Now that I see them leaving the Main Grandstand in place, it does look more likely that they will follow thru and build a new track. I was out there last week and watched the removal of turns 3 and 4. Wasn't what I expected, but was cool. I should get that video done in a few days. I was also traveling and passed by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I had never been there before, so I had to fly it. Was cold and windy, and the only action was some tourist kissing the bricks. So not sure how great a video it will be, but damn that is a nice facility. I need to go to a race there this year. Hope your 2024 is off to a great start... thx..

Unfortunately, it might take literal years before the short track can be built. I know at this point there’s a lot of doubt with NASCAR fans because they don’t even think the short track is going to be built. NASCAR has yet to clarify, especially lately, they’re not even reassuring us fans. I hope they can make a short track I really do, but I am very concerned that the whole thing might not even happen because they are literally tearing the whole track down not even leaving the front straight away there, which was supposed to be a part of the short track. Now it’s all getting torn up. It’s just so sad

@@chuck199190ify Hey Chuck - That is GREAT that you are Flying. My first recommendation would be to get your Unmanned Aircraft License (Part 107). Please do that BEFORE you start flying live construction sites. It is a relatively easy test to pass, and it will ensure you fly safely and legally. Are you still working the Fontana Job site? I was just there yesterday and wondering if you know when they will be working on the Front Stretch pavement. KEEP Flying... thx....

This video was shot on December 27, 2023. The construction team was in the consolidation mode, just cleaning up before the next big leg forward. I was back at the track last week and watched with amazement and sadness as they stripped the track surface off of turns 3 and 4. While the method was cool, the reality was devastating. That video will be posted in the coming days, so please subscribe and hit the notification icon so that you don't miss it. I will be heading back to the track in coming days and hope to witness the stripping of the front stretch. Seeing the Auto Club Speedway Logo stripped off will move this from awe to reality. thanks for watching. thx....

It seems at least for the moment they’re going to keep the section of grandstands that was outlined for the proposed short track. I see that as a positive sign for the track actually being built.

Over a year later, and still no paperwork filed, or building permits obtained... We're ever going to see a track in Fontana again. Even the drivers said they never believed it will happen :/

I just want to cry. My grandson and I went to many Cup Races and now it's my granddaughter and I. Before covid, we were at the fence by the garage and an employee at the gate that we were talking with allowed us into the garage area and we were able to get pics of her and Jimmies car and his garage, she was so happy.

Hey LDD - thanks for sharing your great story. Your story really highlights something that really sets Nascar apart from other sports. The staff, the team's and most drivers recognize how important it is to positively interact with the fans. Those small interactions leave lasting memories. In comparison, I was with my niece at the mall and we saw Shaq. My niece loved him and asked to go get his autograph. She is an 8yr little girl and Shaq says "Not now homegirl, I'm chillin". She has never forgot that nor have i. Sorry for the long response, but your message was so on point. Thanks for sharing. Thx..

I worked at California Steel (that was Kiaser Steel) a one of the old timers told me that they were pissed when they shut down 3/4 of Kaiser. Someone filed one of the big ladels (don’t remember what they called it) with molten steel and let it cool. When they were building the track years later they ran across it buried, decided not to move it. Put that water tower on top of it and painted black and white checkers on it. Not sure if that’s true but I could see it happening.

@@AcAdapterInc There's supposedly a polyethylene cap not far under the surface of the old California Speedway property to prevent any remaining toxic waste from Kaiser Steel from coming to the surface. When I attended races there and talked to locals they were aware of this --- and always sounded dubious that Penske pushed the original construction through very quickly as to bring as little attention to the toxic waste as possible. Given the amount of time that has transpired I wonder if toxic waste is still a concern on this site. Any insight you have?

@acadapterinc 13 acres on which some of the Kaiser mills stood. I would think a lot of it would be on the portion behind the main grandstand that has not been disturbed-but also the disturbed areas south of turns 1 and 4.

Hey Gary - Sorry I missed this post. OMG, Willow Springs... I forgot all about that facility. I used to have a 125 Shifter Cart that I would take there. Some of the best days I can remember. Hey Broski - Great to see you. I hope your 2024 is off to a good start. You know what amazes me is how little coverage this demolition is getting. Crazy that something this important is being ignored. Well I'm literally camping out around here. I guess I'm tailgating the demolition. I was just looking at the video I shot last week, good stuff. Churn and Burn of turns 3 and 4. Only thing left now is the front stretch. I just hope I don't miss it. The demo team works odd hours and does things at random, so luck plays a big part in capturing these critical events. But we've been pretty lucky so far, so keeping my fingers crossed. thx...

Hey MP - Thanks for watching, was hoping they would sell something, but I have been sent away empty handed multiple times. One of the guys I talked to told me they have increased security because of theft. So there may be souvenirs out there, but unfortunately all I have is video. In the next video you will see them removing turns 3/4 and you'll see there method doesn't leave any chunks behind. @@AcAdapterInc yeah I was thinking like how they actually sold asphalt online when they repaved Daytona, and Bristol when they redid there too. I'm still mad I didn't realize they were selling pieces of the old water tower until it was too late and I've never been able to find one. I've been to all but 3 of the cup series races they ever had here, and the 3 I missed were during the year and a half I was living about an hour from Bristol.

In my opinion there are other tracks I'd destroy and rebuild before Fontana, and with the current car the short tracks aren't great. So is this short track gonna be better ? Will see .

That crusher machine is spectacular! I had tickets at ACSC from Day One. I wonder if the new track will give us original ticketholders any preference when they reopen. Or is it IF they reopen? I have yet to hear a definitive word on that.

About the crusher, some days you get there and magic is happening, other days you have to take what it gives you. I must have 30 minutes of video from that crusher. I just love heavy machines and seeing that one turn a racetrack into a pile of dust was just too cool. Was there last week and more magic was happening, so stay tuned. Thx...

Hey VG - Thanks for watching... Right move is subjective I guess. I think it was an attempt to sell off some very valuable land while still maintaining the racing tradition. If you google new Auto Club Speedway layout, you will see the plan. It is a D shaped thing in the footprint of the current main Grandstand. So they are keeping some of the original elements (main grandstand, garages and pit road facilities). Now time will tell if they actually follow thru. I hear construction costs are rising and financing is getting more difficult. So fingers crossed they get this done. I was out there last week and got some more great stuff, so stay tuned. thx...

Hey SimRig - Thanks for watching. As far as I know, there weren't any memorials at Auto Club Speedway. They didn't even name a grandstand after one of the great racers of the past. Hopefully, the new race track will have some "Named" areas, since there are so many great memories from that facility. I was just out there last week and some more good stuff to come. Hey AK - Thanks for watching... I had the EXACT same opinion about a month ago. I figured they would do the "Rope a Dope" and eventually everyone would forget and the rest of the land would just be sold off. Now that demolition is well underway, you can see the footprint for the new facility. They have left the main grandstand, all the garages and the souvenir shops in tact and protected. So unless they shift gears and just start leveling these things, I am going with they plan to build. The BIGGER question tho, is WHEN. If it drags on too long, then I think you could be right. So fingers crossed that all the stars align and we get a new track there. I will be posting my latest visit in a few days, so stay tuned. thx...
