a - NASCAR has *never* pulled 300,000 people to the Indianapolis Brickyard 400. the 300,000 number is from this years Indy 500 race, which is not NASCAR. NASCAR did sell out the stadium the first year they ran Indy/Brickyard 400 at about 250,000 but the Holman family shut down some of the grandstands for the explicit purpose of not allowing NASCAR to outshine the Indy 500. and NASCAR hasn't been close to that attendance in years. the 2016 Brickyard, for instance, only had 50,000 paying attendees. . b - NASCAR has a long and sordid history of playing favorites with their calls and enforcement. Richard Petty's 200th win is very suspect. and NASCAR distributes the restricter plates ... so if they really, REALLY want somebody to win at Daytona/Talladega they just give them a plate with a little bit larger holes. yellow flag calls for Jacques Debris ( imaginary trash on the track that nobody can figure out where to tell the cameras to look ) were a lot more common 10 years ago. now they just throw a checker for the end of each "stage" ( yeah, i know, you're gonna love that ) and then have some caution laps after that. . c - regardless of what NASCAR *wants*, the driver still has to bring the car across the line in first place. go ask Dale Earnhardt Sr about that 1990 Daytona 500 that he lost because he hit a piece of metal and put his tire down in the last turn of the last lap and wound up finishing 5th. . verdict? NASCAR is not above putting their thumb on the scale to help out one of their favorites, but there's only such much they can do. you'll notice that they never got Danica a top 5 ( and quite often didn't even manage to keep her on the lead lap ) despite their best efforts.

My friends uncle used to work in a nascar teams shop and told us once that nascar absolutely lets certain modifications and such slip past inspection for certain drivers on certain days to give them every advantage they can to win a race...he then proceeded to tell us exactly what would happen in the last 40 laps of the race we were watching...I think it was awesome bills last win...but he called ot perfectly

Nascar definitely not scripted IMO. There is a ton of variables that can change the outcome. Tires, suspension, track temperature, driving style of the driver, fuel consumption, and chassis of the car. No body runs the identically same time every lap. Same car, same driver, same tires, same everything but one lap may be .2 faster than the other. MMA is a battle of Inches. Nascar is a battle of seconds. Cars Change weight as the race goes on as they burn fuel. They have an 18-gallon tank which can change the weight of the car up to 126 pounds as the race goes on. No one person can run the same lap time over the course of hundreds of laps. Driver's fatigue, miss the apex of the by a small margin, get of the gas to soon, get on the gas to soon, and numerous other things going on including someone in there yapping in there ear if they clear of other cars.

Professional Sports as a whole are scripted, hence why the term "entertainment" is use often.

I completely agree on the general premise of how these big time orgs do things. I think racing is the hardest of all of them to fix however. NASCAR is it's own thing, but especially in off road racing there are just too many variables.

First, Nascar is not Indycar. Second, Each days events are separate events, each requiring a ticket for the specific event. You can buy a ticket package for all three events. This does not change the fact that each event is separate. If each day is sold out at roughly 100,000 presto magic, the event weekend sold 300,000. Thirdly, Car racing requires race cars, that wreck and blow tires and spin out and catch fire and on and on. You can not make a race car follow a script. They are far to volatile. Anybody that has had a car break down will realize this. In a movie you have the ability to shoot takes until you get the result you want. Auto racing is a live event. There is a set distance, once this distance is reached the race is over. (most of the time) BUT, I am an illiterate moron. (I had to look up how to spell illiterate) So this means Chael must be right. That is the only conceivable possibility. A sporting event using machines with millions of moving parts collectively is fixed. Predetermined outcomes is the only answer. NASCAR is INDYCAR and Monster trucks. I've been fooled and duped. Hey chael love ya man I am an nba enthusiast, I have never made a single bad take or prediction I have a record of 999-0 just like you man you’re one of my heroes. Wanted to say that it’s indeed a fact that there’s a committee in the nba who decides on which teams of officials officiate which games in best of 7 series. Some refs allow physical play, some call fouls for any contact at all. These refs are also instructed to give the home team more favorable calls than the away team. Sweeps occur often in the playoffs but not the finals like you said, the better team will regularly outplay the officiating bias too although there are infamous instances where the better team was screwed. In my opinion the sweeps don’t occur because of the home field advantage bias combined with teams really being able to pull out a “pride win” with the officials help. There are even players who’s entire skill set is based around drawing fouls, depending on the officiating crew it can make these players look like a floundering idiot by allowing physicality. There’s many factors and many 4-1 finals series but not many sweeps. What you stated is fact but I wanted to point out some more factors I think it’s interesting and I’m not sure if what my opinion is on the selection of officials in the playoffs. I wanted to ask though, is selecting an officiating group to help each team get a chance to play to their strengths similar to arranging a fight between contrasting or similar styles for an exciting event? Or is it more comparable to telling khabib he has to have a standing fight with Connor because the dominant ground victory might not be a roller coaster amazing fight?

My dad owned a superstock racecar I dont know if Im sold that it is fake but for me it was hearing the cars hit the corner that sound I love it , I dont watch nascar though its boring but short track racing is better. The Indianapolis motor Speedway has over 257,000 seats, not including the people who camp out in the infield, there are more people camping out in the infield than have ever been to a ufc event.

As someone who’s father was also a horseman, a starter, and a gate crew member, I can confidently say that horse racing is not the same because the horses do change each race often times and each week, I definitely get the point about nascar cause it’s a car, a machine, but an animal is something living and can perform drastically differently, just like you can have an off fight, you can have an off race. Some races have been rigged but, broad stroke, I’d say they’re not 🤷‍♂️

Indianapolis Motor Speedway... has a 257,000 seating capacity. You can fit 257,000 people at the same itme in the seats. On top of that you can fit another 143,000 people on the infield. The total capacity is 400,000... at the same time.

My friend, a good a fair argument about NASCAR being scripted. The main differences between cars and horses are cars can be tuned differently and with aerodynamic adjustments making each car different each week. The other point is some drivers are better at some tracks than others. Years ago it used to be whoever had the most money invested in their shops would have better cars. Now the cars are all the same and teams can make a handful of adjustments to try and even the playing field.

I reckon there is some truth to this like other motorsports like f1 and motogp have the same guys at the top all the time. Even v8s. NASCAR has more variables than these but still the outcomes seem like fairytales every second race.

Indycar does the Indy 500... Not nascar lol and nascar does play up their sport for the show but they don't actually script the winners different drivers are better at different types of tracks different teams have better setups for different tracks for the cars that make certain teams and drivers better or worse each weekend some guys only do well at road courses and suck everywhere else just depends on track setup and the teams equipment. They definitely do things for the show that hurt the actually racing tho

I have undisputed proof NASCAR is not scripted. If NASCAR was scripted Dale Earnhardt Jr. would have won 10 NASCAR Cup Series championships! He finished his career winning zero. Also if NASCAR was scripted Dale Earnhardt Sr. who won 7 Cup championships would have never died on live TV during a race! Car mechanics is a lot different than horse biology. Just because a car runs a certain way last week doesn’t mean it will do the same next week. There is always a constant battle of tweaking and adjusting. Lastly, you have to factor in Pit stops, Pit crews, track conditions, weather conditions, and driver health. Chael you should go to a NASCAR event with your family. There is one in Portland, Oregon this weekend , June 4th at Portland International Raceway. It’s 75 laps 147.52 miles Xfinity series’s . I’m positive your son would love it. Buy him a set of Hot wheels toy cars and bring them to the race. Enjoy some hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy , and maybe he will even get an autograph. Let’s go baby!

I don’t really know much about Nascar. I pay a bunch of attention to MMA. I love listening, watching Chael. With all of that, as much as I would love for Chael to be correct because I feel like I have these arguments with my buddy who loves Racing a lot….I just feel like it can’t be scripted for certain reasons. Mainly, sponsors. I feel like sponsors wouldn’t sponsor scripted like that, and I take that from MMA. When UFC fighters could have sponsors on the shorts I just feel like you don’t sponsor someone who is going to lose or come in 16th. Idk though. Just a thought. Also, driving that fast creates so little room for error. But the NBA comparison, I’ll just say from experience not in NBA but playing basketball my whole life…that’s not the way you can rig basketball. You can script it for sure. But the way Chael described it wouldn’t work I don’t think. Football is the EASIEST to script. Baseball the hardest I would say.

Maybe phantom cautions are scripted. But in nascar there are nearly 40 other high level athletes competing against you. And all tracks are very different. It's a lot more than driving in circles, and you can't deliver perfection in all 33 races. Should a team in basketball go 82-0. No and that's just 1 obstacle at a time. In a 40 person scatterball game (basically free for all dodgeball) one person isn't always going to win. Maybe someone will consistently do good, but that person will get out in the game because someone who could have been worse realized a weakness in that person and exposed that. The first black guy to win a NASCAR race in 1963 had far inferior equipment, but he realized something that the other teams didn't and won. There is no sport where one person always wins. That is one of the dumbest statements ever

I don't follow NASCAR so I don't know how many tracks they race on in a season. But a quick google reveals that there are 4 tight and twisty tracks where it could be a toss up because when it comes to 'technical' tracks it's the driver skills that matter not the power of the car. But the rest of the tracks, yeah it's pretty much down to the power of the car.

Chael, cars are not raced more than once in NASCAR. Everything gets replaced under the hood and in the drive train. These are handcrafted engine and 400-500 miles running wide open takes a toll and no two cars have the same results after putting them together. Every race is a new car and there are many things that can go wrong at any second under extreme stress. Just because your car won the last race doesn't mean your next build isn't going to burn up in the first few laps. A frigging horse doesn''t get new legs and muscles after every race. That was just too silly but I did grin over such nonsense.

your right about some things but its not scripted its A sport and that would be very illegal in more ways then just that, Plus you have ppl paying lots of money with sponsor ships on cars and tv time ads. there would be alot of laws suits if someone even had A wif of being scripted or rigged whatever u want to call it. just like the UFC if ppl though it was rigged law suits lots of them its a sport and people bet on it.

Did you know that nascar goes to different racetracks that take different skills such as a Daytona and a Talladega (which is probably what you think they race every weekend), road courses such as COTA, and Sonoma where you actually turn right 😱, short tracks (which speak for themselves, they are short, and intermediate tracks which is basically everything else. They might be driving the same cars but different tracks call for different talents. I hope you are trolling lol

Well with restrictor plates the cars all go about the same speed. Also with the shape of the tracks there is an optimal way of going around it and with the 3 wide racing the cars do they can't always get in the optimal track position. On top of the cars needing to get gas and tires makes the racing the way it is. It's really hard to script the races. However I myself cant confirm that drivers aren't being told to let other drivers win. I suppose only God and the drivers know that but I can say with almost certainty that if they aren't doing that and are racing honestly then the races will play out exactly how they've been doing. As well in the 80s the most popular driver to the fans also had the fastest car and didn't have as many wins as other drivers he raced against weekly. Bill Elliot was his name and he holds the record for fastest car. But has something like 80 wins in his career.

i think there's a little more to it, chael...it's not drag racing, but even if it was and u got 2 fairly evenly matched cars and fairly evenly skilled drivers u aren't necessarily going to get the same result each time..this is a fact, u gotta account for wheel spin and tires and gear shifting, etc
