as young teenager I delivered newspapers to David's home. as the years past and he became famous and successful David never forgot me, he always made it a point to speak to me when our paths crossed. many years later we attended the same church and David would come and speak to me and sometimes sit with me during the sermon. He never changed, always the same warm friendly David Pearson.
When I was a kid I always wanted David to win, he was that guy you always hoped to be in a race car, his ability to "read" people and the climate of the race was uncanny, his title as the greatest NASCAR driver of all time only tells half the story of this great man.
As an old stock car driver and Pearson fan; one thing that stood out about him as a driver was that you could always trust him to never get into you or make a mistake. I've prided myself on being that kind of driver myself...
I was born in 1962. I picked up on NASCAR and David Pearson about 1968, when he was in the #17 Ford. I got involved in kart racing 1975-1983, honoring David with no. #21. I watched his '76 Daytona victory on live TV.
And most people would say Dale Earnhardt, Sr was better driver. Yeah, Right. Not in a Million Years would Dale Sr EVER would've been Better than Pearson.
To me david Pearson was a is the greatest nascar driver that ever got in and drove a race car,he will always will be and always us the greatest 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👏👏👏👏👏😀🇺🇸👍👌‼
As a Petty fan I wasn't aware of just how good he was during his time I just knew he beat my guy alot, obviously 105 wins says it all, I was also a Jeff Gordon fan and really wanted him to win more than 105 ,and I remember all of the things that kept Jeff out of victory lane, biggest disappointment was in California when he didn't move Robby Gordon out of the way those last 10 laps to finish 2nd and say that he was racing for points, I knew than that the "Refuse to lose " had changed to " Refuse to Win "and they beat on him for the next 7 race's 93 wins is ok now that I'm not going to see him or the King race again, now I just watch the action without any particular driver to root for.!!! 2022
David Pearson. Three time NASCAR Premier Series Champion. 105 career wins. NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2011. Truly one of the all time greats of NASCAR. There will never be another driver quite like the Silver Fox. #gonebutneverforgotten
I worked at Vic Baileys Lincoln Mercury And the Wood BROS brought the #21 car to the dealership because they had a contract with lin mercy. to show the car to the public i was the only won that got to drive the car into the showroom because I was Bonded .The ins. would pay for any damages . I wonted to crank it up but the Wood Bros always pushed it inside . One day i hooked up the battery and cranked the motor but i was so short that i couldn't reach any of the pedals. One of the crew members turned the power switch off. I asked Mr Woods why they left the lug nuts off when the tires fell off ? He would not answer Me .I told MR Woods that if He was mad at David HE still should not have let that happen . I also new a lot of the pit crew that Cotton Owens had Fitzhu Powers James Snoddy Ralph Owens . Smokey Unic was working on his on car at Cottons shop. I stayed away from Him .
He had a great career and was a great driver but everyone says he would have won more than Petty or had more championships or would have been better than others. You can’t really make that claim. It’s like what if he had this or did that. What if the Titanic didn’t sink what if we lost WWII. You can’t count what if’s or what could be. It’s who got it done and who didn’t.
No he raced with Holmand&Moody in the #17 Ford torino from 1967-1971 and won the 1968 and 69 Championship and with the Wood Brothers mercury from 72-79 won 43 races with The Wood Brothers
