The WMT fails to attract a large audience outside the US northeast. Sad, because these cars are much faster and more interesting to watch that the so-called stock cars. (Of course, they don't have as much room for all the money-making advertising.) Next to the supers and winged sprints, they're the most entertaining cars on asphalt.
Ya I feel this. It is a historically cultural thing, other places have more dirt cars etc. In a way I like how we having something to contribute of our own to racing. In terms of national appeal it’s hard because at first glance it is somewhere in between Indy and nascar to the casual watcher.
The modifieds have been the main class at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem for years. Modifieds have had a race at Martinsville Speedway for years. North Wilkesboro Speedway had modified races until it closed. There was a modified touring series that operated in the Carolinas for a while in the 80s and 90s.
