A nasheed is a vocal song in Sunni Islam that is similar to a hymn and praises God (Allah). The word nasheed is Arabic for "chant". Nasheeds can be sung a cappella or with instruments, but they usually don't use musical instruments. Sometimes simple percussion is used in the background. Nasheeds are popular in the Islamic world and often reference Islamic beliefs, history, religion, and current events. The lyrics of a nasheed can be simple praises of Allah, lessons related to Qur'anic passages, or lessons of life.
