Everybody knows Kentucky is a fantastic whiskey state, but what about Tennessee? Besides Jack Daniel's and Dickel, what do you really know about the state of whiskey in the Volunteer State? Join us for a quick tour of Tennessee hotspots from distilleries to liquor stores to see what's happening in the whiskey scene in Tennessee.

In Little Rock go to colonial, lake liquor and Sullivants. All pretty decent selections.

That Blue Note Uncut bottle is so underrated. It’s whiskey from Green River Distillery in Owensboro. BR brings their barrels to Memphis at 1 year old and ages them for a couple more years on site. They’re a tad young and hot but whatever they did with those barrels was magic. My two bottles have this super funky and musty deep vanilla nose and palate. Love it.

Watched this video right before we started a cross country trip from Florida to Seattle in our new Travato. Missed out on Elixir but stopped at Main Street and found many of the same picks you guys found. Also found some great deals and informative employees at Frugal Macdoogal. Thanks for the great advice! Didn't even realize the Bourbon Van was about your travels in your van! We're looking forward to many miles of fun and bourbon finds now that we have our own!

You are going to need a bigger van and maybe a trailer to get all that loot home! Visited Dickle and JD waaaay back in ‘82 on a motorcycle trip. Got shot at near Murfreesboro on the way to the worlds fair in Knoxville. A fun trip!

A few things for Little Rock there is a liquor store across the street from the Costco that sells Costco brand whiskey, just a unique little thing. And then colonial liquors I believe being the best place for store picks or variety of selection and of course Rock Town distillery is solid

Rock Town is solid! We only spent 12 hours there on a crazy rainy overnighter, but we loved it. Honestly, we’re really excited to spend more time there.

Curious about tastes in a store. Do you use a glencairn glass? Or little plastic shot glass? Can be tough to properly taste if the latter.

Good question, Robbie. Some stores hand us a Glen and a bottle of water when we ask for a tasting. Others just pour into plastic glasses. Either way, it’s better than nothing. We’ve only had 2 experiences where we tried bottles at the store and they weren’t as good as we thought once we brought them home.

Fortunately we’ve been able to keep working full time from the road or we’d be in trouble. We had to accelerate and get home so we cut a lot of fun stuff out of our trip, unfortunately. We’re nearly home now.

Sometimes I think about the metal detector scene and I wonder why in the world he wrapped the zucchini with aluminum foil? What did the foil accomplish? Anyways, I think about that scene and I laugh like an idiot, usually in a quiet, public place and people look at me like I'm crazy.

I really appreciate hearing about your experiences. I am going to be in Nashville later this year and I am definitely going to travel the same store recommendations. On another note, did you two swap designated driver roles at the distilleries or do the distilleries let you take samples home with you? I'm planning to drive to these places just like you did but I won't be able to drink everything in the tastings I suspect. Cheers and thanks again for the info.

Great question. We switch DD roles often, always request small samples, and almost never finish a sample. Usually a couple whiffs and a small sip are enough to get a feel for a whiskey.

LOL sorry to hear it. Norman is happy though. He gets to wander outside everyday, and he’s social so he’s happy to have us around all the time while we’re traveling. Lots of sunny spots to sleep in as well on the road.
