Dan...I've to salute to you... You are better than us most Malaysian able to find a place for the good street food like this which very affordable and the food really nice.
when u ordered drinks in malaysia anywhere, u can always ask for sugar free or less sugar.. the green sambal, yeah we call it "sambal hijau" which means green sambal.. lol. So u were right about that.. the salted fish usually we eat with the rice due to the saltiness of the fish, it can help the bland test of white rice better.. and that nanas (pineapple) yes its thick and round.. some place they cut it thinner but the size is bigger.. I mean with bigger diameter lol... The way you choose food again, is nice to watch.. makes people craving for the food again~~ 😁😁 and in malaysia letter 'c' is pronounced like 'ch'. 😉
there are a few combos on your plate that really goes well together: 1. pajeri nanas (the pineapple curry) + salted fish. the pajeri is usually on the sweeter side, so eating it salted fish & fried fish balances out the sweetness. 2. sambal sotong with the yellow leafy curry or the pumpkin coconut. sambal tastes really good with either one. sambals are spicy and those two curries are mild & creamy so again, it creates balance. 3. fried potato + sambal. either the red sambal sotong or the green sambal, it goes really well with potato. there's actually a dish combining those. also you commented on the chicken. a lot of foreigners/non muslims said that meat in muslim countries are tastier, because they are halal. in malaysia, most chicken are halal processed, meaning they're slaughtered the islamic way, which is by making a cut on the jugular. this way, the animal die faster with less pain and the blood drains faster.
Please don't add everything....a plate of rice with curry, fried fish and vegetables with sambal will do... next time masak lemak chicken with potatoes, fried vege, sambal will do
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Nasi campur is a staple for all Malaysians. Wow, d amount of dishes in your plate, hahahaha. I lost count of d number of dishes u ate with d rice. Super yummy.
@@DanvsFood Maybe it would be better if u had just half of that heavy serving, in that way, u probably enjoy d taste much better. Sometimes less is better, but I can understand d thrill of having it all ... 🙂
@@DanvsFood if you like grilled fish with sweet-sour-spicy Sauce go to ikan bakar pak din, jalan tanglin. A walking distance from masjid negara (national mosque)
I screamed when you eat that salted fish that way, i can feel the saltiness 😂. Usually we just pick the tiny bit of the fish and mix it with rice. So brave of you to try. Love it👏👏
Thanks for sharing your gastro experiences. Put a smile on my face every time. Perhaps it’s your curiosity and enthusiasm trying new and different food. All the best Dan
I saw he scoop the sambal belacan, sambal hijau and air asam like a gravy 🤐 it's gonna be too spicy dan 🤣🤣🤣 it's wild, local don't eat like that. Ulam is like french fries and sambal belacan is it's dipping like ketchup to make your tastebud stimulate appetizer kind of functions to make you keep eating.
The first time I had the "pajri-nenas"(pineapple spiced gravy) was an invitation at a wedding ceremony and had rarely seen it since, at hawkers-stalls/restaurants/eateries.. (an unforgettable tastes of a cooked fruit so beautifully spiced up)
Mr Dan,,that is not spinach yellow curry,,that is Tapioca/cassava leaf yellow curry,,, Wise of you to combine salted fish with pineapple curry,,both of them are good friends,,, Compliment each other,,,,,, Stay safe and stay happy 🇲🇾😁
awesome. next dishes you could try are 1. Nasi Kerabu 2. Nasi Dagang 3. Laksa 4. many types of kuih (desserts). authentic nasi kerabu and nasi dagang are a bit difficult to find since those are east coast peninsular Malaysia dish. but there available in KL.
authentic nasi kerabu and nasi dagang are everywhere in KL. my personal favourite nasi kerabu is wan atiq's. i used to buy from their stall every week at the pasar malam in bangi.
Nasi campur is to be eaten mixed. Campur literally means mixed. Meaning you are supposed to mix your rice with the gravy/proteins/vege. However, you took quite a lot of dishes. I suggest that next time, if you want to try out that many dishes, you ask for smaller plates/bowls and fill in those small plates/dishes with the dishes separately. This is to ensure that you get to taste each and every dish on its own. And place your rice in the biggest plate, alone or with just a few major dish like 1 protein, 1 vege, 1 gravy. Try tasting every dish and once you know the taste, you combine the dishes whichever way you like and eat them with rice. In malay cuisine, normally rice is the main item. We do not eat the dishes on its own because normally they are cooked a bit on the salty side. We mix them with rice, which is bland, and therefore it will tone down the saltiness and make the food taste better. Enjoy your food adventure!
Thats is best way to enjoy malaysian cuisine.. Street food.. Cheaper, various menu and true malaysian flavour... Try to talk to local bro.. And try to talk in malay, like TERIMA KASIH (thank you), SEDAP (delicous), APA KABAR (How are u).. This simple word will make surprise u.. Really enjoy ur video.. 😍😍😍 Dont forget to try NASI KERABU, NASI DAGANG..
In Malaysia consonants have only 1 sound... So 'C' is 'Ch' as in Cheese.... Pajeri is a Fruit or Veg Curry... You may find Mango, Pineapple, or Egg Plant Pajeri... Additional items like Ulam + Condiments like chilli sambal or tamarind and onion + dried fish... helps the food go down better... Salted fish goes back to the times when we didn't have refridgeration and salting was the only method of preservation.
Careful with the sambal. I saw you took 3(?) types. Hope it is not too salty which will spoil your meal..and the salted fish, just take a very small bite with some rice. On its own it is too salty.. Another tip to eat nasi campur is to take just one main curry as you called it. If you mixed all type, the taste would confuse you and wouldn't be superb...take your time to eat your varieties at another meal. Don't be greedy Dan🤣. Lol
This is one of my eating spots during lunch time. This place is a favorite spot among bodybuilders clan since they provide grilled chicken and brown rice. And yes, the price are cheap here
Delish-Dan, your vlogs are getting more and more appetizing. The content is great and love how you stay curious and humble with the locals. Do you have any interest in going to the Philippines? Great food with always smiling locals.
Hi Dan ... Thanks a lot for choosing Malaysia as your travel destination, we really appreciate it. ... for more info on Malaysian foods ... you can refer to: 50 FOODS IN MALAYSIA TO EAT BEFORE YOU DIE (by FOOD AND FOOTPRINTS, i.e American-Phillipines couple (Greg and Jumi).
You should get a tripod..easy to vlog when you start eating especially when you have to use your hands to eat. Wow that's like a lunch feast. Look at the mountain of food you chose. I'd be spoilt for choice if i were you too. You should get an extra plate to be able to get to the rice which is suffocating under all those delicious food on top. Salted fish should be eaten with small bits with rice and other food to give it more taste. Goes well with bland food. Whenever you order drinks in Malaysia, you can request for no or less sugar. Kurang= less. Manis=sweet. Or you can just say NO gula because everyone understands NO. By the end of your meal, you'd be in a food coma. Love watching you eat. Keep it coming. For a healthier meal, you should try nasi kerabu. Haven't seen you trying any Indian banana curry leaf meal.
You go right place…👍 the price litter bit increase now because price all raw meterial increase… now durian season in malaysia.. right time if you want to make a story about malaysia durian because we have the best variant durian in the world ..
You must try the SOUTH Indian Cuisine there mate with a BANANA Leaf- Kerala State and Tamilnadu State cuisines there in Malaysian. All Refined wheat breads- Parotta and Roti Canai.. Wonderful Desserts they got...
Hey Dan, slow down on the spice intake my friend before your tongue gets too numb! There are other cuisines in Malaysia you still have to taste in days ahead! Take care! 🙏
Wowww! So many kind of sambal...I think that's too much for a foreigner. But with my respect, a pile of side dishes is just amazing. The choices can last us for a week. 😅.
You can ask the ladies to serve your dishes in several plates and spread them across the table. Just ask them to 'hidang' the dishes. It's more comfortable and satisfying eating that way.
Indonesians eat salted fish with load of rice due to its saltiness. Some people would wash it with rice water to moderate it a bit but in general you don't eat it plain. In the past it's the food for the poor people who had big family :)
Haha u look struggling on choosing food . All fun . Tips . Ask another plate so u can seperate rice and the cuisine . Glad u enjoy food and dont over eat yourself ! 😁
Man, what a way of eating Malay food. For me I just have to look at the sambal belaccan and smell the assam pedas to know if the food is going to be good. Even better if the assam pedas have Ikan parang in it...the best!
your pronunciation of campur is just like camphor (camphor tree used for medicine) yet we malaysians still understand tho it sounds a bit sexy 😁😆 campur is pronunced "chum pore" (it literally means mix/plus/add)
Hey Dan - I suggest you to go to "pasar malam" (night market), I think you'll enjoy that! There's one really famous is open on every Wednesday evening in Taman Connaught (the entire market it's about 2km long) Dare I say, it's at least 70% of the stalls are selling food!
nasi campur is malaysian traditional kampung (village) style of dish that u can have a veriety of malaysian dish. nasi campur means nasi = rice , campur = mix ( mix dish ) so u can choose what dish u want eat with the rice. u have to eat rice together with the dish so u can taste the combination dish properly. normally we only choose rice + 1 main dish with sauce like curry and 1 dish with vegetable and add on some fried chicken or fried fish. and u might add just small amount of sambal ( green chilly, red chilly and sambal belacan ) if u want your food to be little spicy. how to eat this thing. u take a bit of your chicken or fish dip it in the sambal and eat it with the rice that u mix with the dish. it will taste better.
What a lovely vlog … food looks amazing 🤩 ….. also I never see any flies flying around the food ?? Looking good 😊 Dan … hope mum and John ok … bet they are in the garden today 🥵 30s here in England 🏴 xx

Hello Dan, great video, it's a real motivation to choose Malaysia as the next big holiday destination. I tried to search for this food stall/restaurant using the clues in the description but failed, could you reply with a Google maps link at all? Many thanks
It's at the start of Jalan Gurney Kiri, few minutes walk from national library if Malaysia. I think you will enjoy a holiday here, it's a great place to visit 🙏👍🙏
Oh my..what a combo Dan, yeah..really like a mountain! haha..you put it together in one plate and the taste was just mixed together..then you started to confuse of the exact taste of everything inside..sooo epic! haha Great 1 Dan 😁👍
someone should give this guy a tutorial how to eat with hand😆😆,im sure the foods is super sedap...u should dine in with the locals for some guidance...sorry for my bad english, and usually the locals dont take too much food on one plate because its goona be hectic with flavour combinations...
Ooooo this is actually one of my fav spot for nasi campur, you gotta mix in a lot of those gravies and usually, I'll get Sambal Kentang which is potatoes thinly sliced and then cooked till it's crispy and then mixed with sambal which is a killer dish but you need to come early because it runs out pretty quick! Other than that, you just take what you like, there are a ton of options to choose from.
