People forget being "strong" on floor doesn't just mean doing the hardest skills, but also being incredibly consistent, which Nastia was. She had a rough patch after the ankle injury but was in absolute peak form for Beijing.
Aside from cowboying the double front, one must appreciate how consistent Nastia's performance was. Although her landings always feel so fluffy-pluffy, yet she did land pretty well if one re-watch it closely. They were either sticks or controlled lunges. And she also hit all the leaps and splits. And as someone mentioned in the comment section, a strong floor worker is not only about throwing out the hardest rating elements, but also emphasizes on consistency. With regard to those aspects, Nastia did perform very well during the 2008 Olympics.
Her attention to details really is incredible. At 1:14 (3rd pass), you see how her landings' timing match the music perfectly. Then the dance moves starting from 1:20 are just perfect for the music too.
Yup. Gymnasts in the 08 quad still paid attention to the choreography and overall fluidity and flow of the routine. And regrettably, it was one of the long lost aspects of this sport currently. To be honest, I never enjoy watching the so called queen of floor exercise nowadays.
@@kaybay5210Biles didn't compete at the 2008 Olympics, nor did she ever compete against either Nastia or Shawn. Why are you even bringing her up here? It's irrelevant.
Opening few seconds really show how beautiful Nastia is. Her cheekbones remind me a bit of Rose Byrne. Also, Nastia brings her own fashionable touches to gymnastics. Her leos are always gorgeous (esp the white one for beam EF), and her earrings are understated but lovely.
When it comes to Nastia, all you haters are picking mistakes outta the fucking SKY. She deserved all of her medals, and I think definitely more than just one gold! I didn't see any mistakes worth talking about in this, she stuck all her landings, and even though it doesn't look more difficult than Shawn's, her artistry gives her more points cause THAT'S what gymnastics is about! It's not about running up and down the floor risking your life! AND her dancing puts ballerinas to SHAME!
@@yaelfranco7275 es la verdad en general las gimnastas americanas tienen la gracia de un elefante de circo en drogas, esta chica sacó a relucir sus raíces rusas.
This should have been the silver metal. It’s artistic gymnastics for her to fit in the difficulty and the level of dance that she’s at should not even be near Shawn Johnson. I love Sean Johnson but comparing the two I don’t think there’s any comparison on this day or this week in fact
To be perfectly honest as much as i love seeing Nastia winning i think the NBC commentators espect too much from their athletes not just in gymnastics but in other sports aswell and just forget about the international athletes and their previous achievements. Quickly changing the subject in my opinion if Cheng fei didn't fall on her fourth pass she could of very well of taken this title
Toda una gimnasta rusa nacida en estados unidos. La mayoría de las gimnastas americanas tienen la gracia y ritmo de un elefante de circo pero esta chica deja ver sus raíces rusas, hermosa.
What was with the NBC commentary?? They just like forgot Sandra Izbasa (2nd place qualifer) existed or something and announced Shawn or Nastia as the winner before it was even over 🙄🙄
I honestly did think that Nastia should have scored higher than Shawn. Admittedly, Sandra Izbasa's was beautifully done and was very difficult, so she does deserve the Gold medal. But nastia definitely deserved the silver
Not quite related, but I love this leotard! The shade of red is gorgeous, and the sheer V neckline makes it so elegant. I think she wore the same design for the AA, except in pink? Also, pretty sure Shawn wore the same red leo for the aa.
@@sallydaniel1023 oh wow, I didn't realize that purple leo was the same design, just different color! We know at least 3 colors from it then, wonder if there's more
@GyMnaddict For the most part, her landings were solid in Beijing. If she ever got back to this level, I think sticking her passes wouldn't be a hassle.
@TwisterFlipp95 I said Izbasa posted "one of the highest," not the highest score :). My point was that Sandra was clearly a threat to winning Olympic gold on FX and it was foolish for Elfi to dismiss her like that and assume Nastia was going to win the gold with Shawn second before Sandra even started her routine.
I read somewhere if you put some special code in your tags it'll automatically snap your video to widescreen res...might be helpful because this video is originally in 16:9 resolution!!
It's funny how on bars and floor they're like her forms so perfect and wondefsul! (Compared to other gymnasts) but in all reality... (ESCPIALLY ON BARS) most of her deductions are from form breaks..she has quite a bit. And on floor the crossing when she twists and the cowboyed double front..
@legalglitz LOL. Johnson had more difficult tumbling passes and better form... nastia had her legs wide open on her double front, and her legs always cross when she twists.. Johnsons legs are together on all her tucks, and twists, no feet crossing. It's absolutley ridiculos to think that nastia deserved silver, or gold for this routine..even if it was preformed perfectly, it was never enough to beat anyone.
Nothing mechanical about this floor exercise. Both artistic and technical. Rare from an American gymnast. I just get sooo frustrated when other US female gymnasts perform floor exercises…. It’s sooo robotic and ugly. NOT Nastia
Then don’t watch, simple as that. The Russians of today dance no better, using silly arm movements that are very unartistic. Dance is different for everyone.
@@saragrant9749 I think you're mixing up countries. America has no sense of artistry and never has, They just pose awkwardly in the corner of the floor and do TikTok dancing. Cringe and ugly!
@legalglitz yes she can, and nastia's poses arent' dance. And shawn's tumbling passes were more difficult and she didn't have form issues on her tripple twist....are you even kidding, nastia has form issues on every tumbling pass, and they are less difficult so obviously a 2.5 twist is eaiser to stick then a fucking tripple twist. Get over it. She didn't deserve silver.
She Has a fluidity in her movement that harkens back to older Soviet days. I was never a supporter and always team Shawn but she should have take silver IMO.
