Anand's view on religion and morality is so juvenile. Ofcourse from a pure rational material sense, humans are insignificant, just a product of a determinist process, and so on. But in that purely material world, there is also no morality, everything every act that we deem absolutely abhorrent across societies is also neutral. We can most definitely return to that world again, where we live no different from animals. But for anything else, for any level of society or civilization, or even sustained individual achievement or human excellence to exist, we need larger meaning and a sense of morality, which has always come from some or the other form of transcendental metaphysics. It is indeed true that no civilization has ever existed without religion. We can either begrudgingly disown human consciousness, or embrace it to achieve all the greatness that humanity is capable of.
