Yea i do agree... South African HipHop is going through a bit of an identity crisis, we want to remain authentic, but we also want to gain traction, and unfortunately we do that by imitating other countries... but shout out for watching our videos... (i am not a rapper, i am just a south african lol)

croxncrox shut up you know nothing about South African Music, but you from South Africa. South Africa is moving with times musically, we are part of the evolution of music and experimenting with new genres and sounds. 'Drake - One Dance' is a joint that topped charts more than any song last year. The beat of the song was produced by Dj Maphorisa, an extremely talented producer from South Africa. I don't think you knew that.

I am loving how everyone's heads are bobbing like that! Nasty C is A1 also: you said he could've added some local South African flair to his lyrics- for those who don't know, Nandos is South African (originated in SA and is the largest chicken fast food outlet here). So I guess that was Nasty C's SA tag.

One of you asked about the statue @ubunifu. At 1:33 that is actually part of beautiful art work in University of Cape Town's School of Economics. I was there when the school got a major facelift, even much prettier in person. Its an open varsity, anyone can there. Access is more about buildings, but unlike other universities, there is no actual wall around, everything links with beautiful landscape and many people just for chills, wedding shoots, commercials like BMW, movie shoots. The tennis court they in particular has ratchet great memories. Shoutout to you guys, you made me love something I never did - reaction videos. I love anime, hip hop but somehow reaction videos just didnt do it for me. you guys are unique. props to you and showing us the rest of Africa too

@TheUbunifuSpace Kindly check out a short film by Nasty C released not so long ago (I think 17 March 2017) which features 3 music videos that is: Nasty C - Phases ft Rowlene Nasty C - Don't Do it ft Telleman Nasty C - Good Girls Also check out: Nasty C - Pressure My homeboy is GOOD. Not so long ago he had a meeting with Jay Z's Roc Nation music management label & @ the time he had already chosen to sign with a local (RSA) record label Mabala Noise. To make matters worse he raps, sings, directs, produces & edit his own music videos. And as for the authenticity or the originality of the tracks; perhaps yo'll guys need to familiarize yourselves a bit more with South African music as this is not the first time I'm hearing it ~ "Your music DOESN'T sound African enough" Usher's management said it to Black Coffee about couple of weeks back (3 April) when they wanted to collaborate with him & eventually ended up not collaborating because "His music WASN'T African enough". Music is universal. South African artist are at their own 'space' in terms of music and just because you can't distinguish whether it sounds American or African it doesn't necessarily mean they are "American-Wanna-Be's" or something. Perhaps if you were to hear a bit of vernacular language (in this case Nasty C is Zulu from Lovu, KwaZulu Natal - FYI); maybe you would have then been able to tell that it was a South African and not American song. There are artists from South Korea whom when they sing/rap they sound universal (artists like Tablo, Eric Nam, Eung Freestyle - Live, Sik-K, Punchnello, Owen Ovadoz, Flowsik) - all these artist are good at what they do & their music is not just Korean or something - it's Universal. Great to see you guys reviewing African artist & keep up the good work.👍🏾

@zamadladla826
@zamadladla826 7 лет назад
So what? Now we must pronounce you as being a model of intelligence? Probably don't know that in music beats cannot be copyrighted. It is melodies,chords that fall under copyright. Anybody can use a sampled beat because it is not easy to know whether it is a composition or sample as beats sound the same. Even if the original producer told you he didn't sample anything still it would be hard to prove he did sample unless you were there with him in that studio.

@chumambambo1024 7 лет назад
I second this. I really enjoy watching these reaction videos but get disappointed that when it comes to SA the real SA Hip Hop flavour is not recognised. Its really disappoiting to hear that we sound Americanised all the time. Our Hip Hop artists should also take this into consideration. We have sooooooooo much to show and offer in SA Hip Hop.
@anzafortune5091
@anzafortune5091 7 лет назад
americanised?, why , cuz they rap in english?, but i thot it was part of "south africas" 11 official languages, when dd it change?

@chumambambo1024
@chumambambo1024 7 лет назад
I am not just referring to the language. The beat, for example, doesn't rep South Africa. Don't get me wrong, I know Nasty C is brilliant at what he does. But this is the point: if no one mentioned that the song was from SA, these guys would never have guessed. We have artists like AKA who rap in English but still has that African flavour. "Vura" was reviewed a while ago and as much as they didn't understand half the words that were said, they loved it! If youguys are gonna suggest that Ubunifu Space watch SA videos then refer them to something different from what they are used to hearing, that's when their opinion really counts.

This is what I don't get with people. I find it super ignorant for someone to say "it sounds American" well duh!! Thats where the genre originates from, so of course it should sound American. You don't do dancehall that sounds like its from Japan, or you don't do grime that sounds like its from Brazil? Its an imitation of where the music comes from so yes. Duh its meant to sound American cause its an American genre.
