Nasty Hot Tub Water vs Berkey (and Alexapure and Purewell)

Today we're seeing if the Berkey, Alexapure, and Purewell gravity water filters have what it takes to filter contaminated water. What contaminants are we testing for today? We're going to see if these filters can remove Kool-Aid, Chlorine (and other Hot Tub contaminants), and Salt from water.

In my household, Alexapure makes our water taste great. I bought one for both of my daughters as well as one for myself.

It totally is. I did read later on My Patriot Supply that the Alexapure is supposed to remove over 99% of chlorine so I am a as little disappointed that it didn’t do more, but it worked at least as well as the Berkey and cost me quite a bit less.

And, Alexapure is supposed to take out glyphosphate, isn't it? Without needing to buy additional filters.

Cool. I am a little surprised that they took the kool-aid flavor out but not the sugar. Interesting results. Yeah you really need RO for salt.

Yep! RO is most feasible for home use but takes quite a bit of energy.

Clearly all the cans are just cans. Which filters are you testing? I have the purewell and have used the stock filters and they were great, I’m trying ceramic’s now. Advise??? I love your tests and enthusiasm. Thanks!

Yes, the cans are all just cans. In fact, the Purewell came with the same metal spigot as the Alexapure but the Berkey’s was plastic. I used the stock filters from each. For the Berkey I used the black ones. Even the stock filters did great against bacteria and other common water contaminants.

The black Berkey filters. For the Alexapure I’m only aware of one filter option and is also black, as were the filters on the Purewell.

@@pantrypreparedness Thank you. I've avoided the rabbit hole of filter investigation but the skimming I've done throws up lots of conflicting information. I have a Berky with black filters at present and am lucky enough to live in an area without fluoridation. I enjoyed your video and have subscribed, G'luck.

Would an Alexapure filter work in the Purewell?

Yes! They’re pretty much all interchangeable. The 3 I tested can all be switched. And the Pro One filters can work in any of these too. I actually think the Purewell body was a great value compared to the others. You get the exact same metal spigot as the Alexapure which is an upgrade you can pay for on the Berkey. But if you buy the Purewell body you’ll also pay for a set of Purewell fillers which aren’t as good as the others. But they’ll still work for filtering most things and you’ll probably still save money in the end.

I’ve used an AlexaPure for decades,usually with good results. I installed 2 new filters and kept getting white particles on the bottom of my glass. I called the company and got NO help or satisfaction! I asked them for 2 new replacements and told them that I would send them the questionable filters back for assessment! NO DEAL!!! They hung up on me! Buyer beware!!
