RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH MR NAT KING COLE & MISS IDA JAMES ! Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 February 15, 1965), known professionally as Nat King Cole, was an American musician who first came to prominence as a leading jazz pianist. Although an accomplished pianist, he owes most of his popular musical fame to his soft baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres. He was the first black American to host a television variety show and has maintained worldwide popularity over 40 years past his death; he is widely considered one of the most important musical personalities in United States history.
You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on :www.msplinks.co... or www.myspace.com... ! Many thanks , NICKY .

Absolutely, we are blessed with having the technology that gives us the opportunity to see the efforts of these master artists of the past despite the fact that they are long since dead. Just think, until the advent of film and recording past artists were just legends who over time melted into the memory of the population eventually to be forgotten. Now we also have RU-vid to bring the past artists to life again.

Just to add that Nat's voice during the Trio years is not very much like his later sound, such as the mid-late 50s. Some say it was his smoking habit that effected the change, but I disagree. Nat's voice simply matured, but his vocal style evolved more than his voice changed. I know lots of serious jazz fans lament that fact that Nat was such a good singer, because it took him away from his Jazz roots and his fabulous piano playing. But while I have many Trio recordings, I much prefer the later 50s Nat. In any case, just a stupendous talent that only appears when the stars align juuuuuuuuuuust right..
@renaissanceman165
@renaissanceman165 9 лет назад
Absolutely agree! Nat's style evolved as more of a ballad singer, and stand up at the mike performer. Starting around the time of Nature Boy. His wife was very influential in that transition. Check out his biography Nat King Cole by author Epstein. Incidentally, if you listen to Nat's original recordings of his songs, his voice still had the lighter quality of his early trio recordings. Compare his three versions of The Christmas Song. His most popular being the 1961 version we all know. That was also the year Nat Re-recorded all his great hits in stereo, versions we are most familiar with.
@renaissanceman165
@renaissanceman165 9 лет назад
So, yes! By 1960 Nat's voice had reached seasoned maturity naturally. However, that was evident by the late 1950s. As far as cigarettes, Nat felt as if smoking helped him reach his lower notes later in his career. However, he still wanted to kick the habit. Ciao

renaissanceman165 I know that Nat thought the ciggies helped his lower register (and that he would smoke several in a row before recording), but given that it took his life in his early 40s, I weep to wonder what more he could have done if not for those insidious bullets.. His voice was such that he could have sang for many more years. Sad and tragic.

@GogolBordelloLover It said that this was in 1948, so Nat King Cole was 29. But to me he always looked older than he was. All through his life people thought he was older than he was. Not only just because he looked older, but also the way he carried himself. He was an old soul in a young body.

The way you're actin' lately makes me doubt Yous is still my baby-baby Seems my flame in your heart's done gone out A woman is a creature that has always been strange Just when you're sure of one You find she's gone and made a change Is you is or is you ain't my baby Maybe baby's found somebody new Or is my baby still my baby true? I wonder what became of her? Is she still with us or dead? In the 40's, she was very popular. She had such a sweet, beautiful doll face and a voice like an angel. She had great delivery, charism, and charm. She should have been as famous as Lena Horne, but because of the time, there were limits on how many black women could become big. There's many articles on her from the black newspapers of the time. The last thing written on her was in Jet in 59, that said she was working as a barmaid.
