I'd do interviews to raise public awareness. It's all well and good reading these stories and ignoring the message but she was snatched as a child. As a parent I find it scary but helpful.

her story shows that whatever you do, haters are going to hate. It's the reason why so many women and men who are survivors of abuse/rape don't come forward. Because if you cause a big scene, cry, get angry, etc. people say "he/she is too much. Tone it down! Stop complaining!" But if you don't show your emotions, people don't believe you or think you're messed up... It's an impossible situation to handle, especially when you're in such a vulnerable position, where you couldn't possibly have the energy to defend yourself.

People always want someone to blame, some way to find fault, and someone to ultimately punish. The kidnapper killed himself and thus denied people an opportunity to dole out that desired punishment, and so a certain subset of paranoid, conspiracy-minded people (Like Il Tenore in this thread) will then turn on the victim and try to find ways to blame and punish them. Multiple investigations have tried to find evidence of other culprits/perpetrators/partners/compatriots, and have turned up jack-fucking-squat. Give. It. A. Rest. Grow the hell up, and let Natascha Kampusch live her life in peace.

I remember a group of journalists one time, debating about the possibility of her having been pregnant while she was captured. She didn't initially open up about having been raped (obviously because it's super hard to talk about this), but people always speculated that it must have happened, because what other reason what someone have to keep a young girl in a cell? Police had found a string of hair (that later turned out to belong to Natascha herself), but at the time people thought it could've been from a baby... So they assumed the baby must have died and debated whether she had a part in killing it.... which is sooo immeasurably offensive! (Even if there had been a child and it had died, she couldn't possibly have been held responsible, since she had no control over her own life, let alone that of another human being). What puzzled me most about this group-tear-down was that it was a woman who did all the victim-blaming and a man defending Natascha. I learned there and then that being female doesn't automatically make you an ally and that it doesn't even necessarily mean you understand her circumstances (oppression, physical and sexual violence, starvation, physical weakness and various kinds of abuse etc.). People are either compassionate, or their not, but it doesn't really have that much to do with gender. However, it was still shocking to witness.

faridtjabbah gut you are one sick individual. After all she's been through you are hoping she will get thin? That's what you have to say about her? Not that she is unbelievable strong and a fighter but about getting thinner? Being thinner doesn't always mean being more happy in life. Having a loving family and friends it's what makes a life happy and she has it. When I look at her I'm thinking wow what a brave beautiful girl and strong as she is, she is sharing her traumatic story with us.

Because ppl don't like to see strong women. They rather like to learn a woman is not surviving her difficulties at all.

Its already common for people to ask victims why didn't you try to escape ? Why didn't you leave or run away ? Or why do you feel sorry or empathy towards your kidnapper it's easy for them to say when they were not in their shoes but if we experienced it we will understand what they went through.

The captor died as a coward. I cant believe she was given the house as compensation where she was held a captive. What a twisted society. It should have been bulldozed to the ground.

she learned not to cry, she had to... she said that she wouldn´t be "allowed" to cry while bein captive, you can see in her interview from 2006, 2 weeks after being released, how she sometimes started tearing up but instantly snapped back into her happy face... at some point you´re just conditioned to not cry anymore, it just stops being a natural reaction, you unlearn it... I´m speaking from experience, I can assure you that your brain and body just find other ways to express emotion and those ways are never as relieving as crying...

Brave why? She endured what she sadly endured because she had no other option. I hate with a passion this thriving culture that idolizes victims and labels them as survivors, reducing them to a product of the terrible things they happened to live while making them into a sort of role models. It's stigmatizing and it's only a 'positive' disguise for the morbid inclinations of the general public and the sensationalism of the media.

Well think of it this way. Whilst being in the situation, trapped and forced we know, she still stuck through it. She tried to kill herself but never succeeded. And the aftermath shows us she's strong in a sense that she is attempting and trying to cope. She's getting help and trying to get better. That's inspiring and that are sign of a strong person. I don't see where you're coming from with all that, because all in all is the focus on Natascha and the fact that she's still with us here today, getting better by the day, and she's out there making a difference and telling her story. That is someone who is worth having respect for. The persons comment you replied you were also just paying his respect for Natasha, I don't see the purpose on having that comment negatively loaded. (I believe) She wanted it, so claimed it from his estate. I don't know the story intimately, but to me it makes *some* sense. She could be 100% in control of a place, where before she had 0%. And although unspeakably bad, she has 8 years+ of memories there, so it means something to her. The 'control' of it makes sense (to me) - as part of her own 'self-rehabilitation'.

I was trying to think of why (with the house), and think the reason I've mentioned is still a possibility (amongst many).

TMR Fritzl and Priklopil were both Austrian citizens. And both of them kidnapped and tortured and raped for years on years. It's truly mind boggling.

It doesnt matter what country you are in. These things can happen anywhere. There are so many cases of injustice in america, england, spain, asian countries and just about anywhere in the world I live in austria and i can assure you that those things don't happen regularly and just as mentioned cases like this one can come up everywhere I live in the village she was held in and I love my country, my life and my village There will always be horrible people no matter where you are so please don't just blame it on the country It's not our fault that it happened here and not in another country

I've seen so many comments just saying I will never visit Austria, what is wrong with them or we should all be ashamed of ourselves, like people don't seem to understand that every person in a country is different and that those things don't happen regularly and that this could have happened anywhere.
