Natchez, MS is the oldest city on the Mississippi River. Natchez is a walkable, vibrant, and beautiful historic city, where preservation and progress go hand in hand. Incorporated on March 10, 1803, the City of Natchez is the oldest municipality in Mississippi, and is, in fact, older than the State of Mississippi. But the city is far older having been founded in 1716. The city was named for the Natchez tribe of Native Americans, who with their ancestors, inhabited much of the area from the 8th century AD through the French colonial period.
