wait, wait... he plays the piano flawlessly, he is a champion ice skater, he attends Yale University... how come his day has 56 hours and mine seems to have 8 and a half?
There looks like theirs been some touch up's and polish here and there, great that he works on his components even though he gets high marks there already, he's a smart guy who knows his strengths and weakness and he's working on them. Go for Gold again Nathen! Keep going up and up.
I'm a figure skater myself and Nathan Chen's 2019 performance is what really made me get into figure skating. I've been skating for 4 and a half years, and I'm so glad I've kept skating. I am working on split jumps and being able to do my scratch spin and this is so cool to watch.
I wonder why scratch spins are less popular today in world championships figure skating. They use to be more common and it's always a crowd pleasing spin. Were they devalued by the ISU because hardly anyone does them anymore in competition?
4:17 - nice! In qualifying competition that would have had to have been a rotational jump for points. It's too bad the COP restrains skaters' creativity, because 4:17 is so representative of what skating is missing nowadays, but Nathan's skating really overcomes the rules in so many ways!
Sigh, coming back to this video after the announcement of the cancellation of world championships, so this is probably the last Rocket Man performance. I was looking forward to his polished step and choreo sequence but now it's nowhere to be seen :( Wish Nathan all the best and see you next season!
Could never got tired of watching this program from Nathan! Nathan Chen is the Rocket man! Start that fire! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pEcbRmGwOGI.html
I agree in a sense but when will he do it? when he's older? Jeremy Abbott and Keegan Messing do backflips and they are older than him so I guess so long as you have the proper technique a backflip is like one of his jumps.
@ws A number of skaters does blackflip at exhibitions or skatings shows for entertainment purpose, I mean it really hypes up the crowd! (Even Brian Orser did that few years ago, does that makes doing a backflip sounds a bit more reassuring lol)
