Michael Ausiello chats with 'The Rookie' star Nathan Fillion about his new ABC show, spoofing 'Firefly,' and reuniting with the 'Dr. Horrible' cast. Follow TVLine on... Twitter: / tvline Facebook: / tvline Instagram: / tvline
We need a reverse spinoff episode. Beckett comes in for a special guest episode as the flirty millionaire best-selling novelist who weasels her way into helping Nolan solve a murder.
It's pretty normal for women to not show their age as dramatically until we hit 60+. Baccarin is still in her late 30's. She's only 3 years older than I am and people still routinely estimate my age as being in my low 20's. So it's much more impressive how good Fillion looks for being in his late 40's. I'd let him ring me like a dinner bell any day of the week.
I don’t understand why i can’t be a fan of Nathan AND Stana at the same time. They are both brilliant actors in their own way. Love both of them and both of their works together and individually 🙌
As a guy of a certain age I feel Nathan made a very good point when he suggested that we get half way through our lives and suddenly we are able (or are forced) by circumstances to hit the reset button. People live far longer lives today and 50 is no longer the monumental age that it would have been a few generations ago.
Yeah by Castle's end he was definitely carrying some excess baggage but now he looks closer to Serenity era but with age added on top. He's looking good and hopefully his new show will be too.
Dana says- Yep. He's always been good looking, but yeah he looks great. He's lost weight and he had some "refreshment" done under his eyes, etc. He looks a good 10 years younger than season 8 of Castle.
lwaves he had a chronic back injury that he had been having issues with toward the end of Castle, so he was likely on steroids and some form of pain medication, both of which cause weight gain and a “puffy drug face” (doctors call it a moon face, which doesn’t sound any better lol). I am not criticizing him in any way- I have chronic pain from a spinal injury and failed fusions and I don’t know how he does half of what he does; I barely have the strength to get out of bed some days.
Working on set all those hours and having food around at all times and THEN being exhausted on weekends to do much of anything forget working out!! Nathan has always been gorgeous inside and out with or without 5lbs…… yes he looks great for his age and I hope his new show is as successful as Castle was. I should have asked him out on Desperate Housewives while I played DD standin and photodouble!!! The one regret on that show!!!! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Nathan Fillion, he is such a nice actor, and I'd love to meet him, I really enjoyed see him on Castle. It's a pity not continue Castle series, I was hoping for another two seasons i.e season 9 and 10 to close the box set, and see him passing the torch to Alexis Castle (Molly Quinn) to continue the good work as Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) become a senator, Rookie is a nice TV Show the same way as Absentia but honestly they cannot replace Castle, because it was funny, interesting, and humanized TVshow.
Ausiello is right, Nathan looks great. Normally in interviews Ausiello is very stoic, but here you can tell that he really likes Nathan. There is a sweet chemistry there. I enjoyed this interview.
I found Nathan's description of men having to start their lives over incredibly interesting and insightful. Really enjoyed the interview and Nathan's more serious side.
“I would hate to walk around Comic-con and not see anybody dressed as Captain Hammer, Dr Horrible, or Malcolm Reynolds. I would just hate to be still so in love with those projects and the characters *and the actors who played those roles* and be forgotten”… Dude, 2 out of the 3 of them, were YOU.
So has anything unpleasant happened on Castle or not? I'm rewatching the series now and the hint of rumors is like a cat hair in my tea. Doesn't stop me from drinking it but i gotta dip in and take it out every now and then. I wish i could dispell the ambiguity but I just don't know if any source can be trustworthy.
Nobody knows. As you said, just a bunch of rumors, and rumors are far too easy to spread to accept them as gospel without some pretty darn convincing evidence.

Very sad that we don't rely on men to be fathers and providers...that our country is so decimated by the break up of marriages and families. This great "reset" or "norm" is something we should avoid and change back asap. God bless~
His hair looks good, but I loved his hair in Castle. It was more fashionable and unique, definitely seemed like a playboy's style and fit the character perfect.
I think I read he had some medical problems during Castle, mostly his knee, that kept him from working out like he should. (Or maybe he was just getting middle-aged fat.)
He had a back injury, in addition to a knee and shoulder injuries, which really limited his ability to work out. He also worked 12-16 hr days six days a week which REALLY limits gym time.
I can't wrap my head around the notion that I totally missed the fact that Nathan was in fact part of the Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan cast as pvt. James Ryan, the "wrong" Ryan that is who was grieving about his brothers in grammar school! KABOOM!
I loved Caide,I cried when they killed him.Caide was an amazing character and it won't be the same.I'm glad to see him again in a tv series I loved Castle.
@@jimb7145 I don't know if I'd call it a sitcom. It's pretty intense, for a prime time network show. To be fair, I was only half joking about it being cancelled. It just seems if I like a show, it gets axed.
@@jimb7145 I actually missed the original airing of Firefly. It was relatively early (first two years) being married, so we were busy with buying a house, moving in, etc. I probably didn't sit and see the whole thing till around 2004, when it had already been cancelled. Not sure where I say it. Sci-fi channel maybe?

Bring back firefly loved the characters the humor. Although being it was based around the brother and sister story, they really weren't needed :/ "doing it rough in that era, was probably story enough, with their survival antics"
I always said to my wife...during the 3-4 season of Castle that he had to "spend" the summer in going to the Police Academy and the final seasons count with him as a rookie police with Kate. And then now we have "the rookie". I should bet with my wife...hehehe
He looks just like Nathan Drake, not quite the right voice but you can’t beat Nolan North on that one. Hope he makes it into an uncharted film one day 😍 great interview ( I know this comment comes outa nowhere but I just thought of it)
The pilot of the rookie was very good even though it was not realistic at all. But every episode since then kept going downhill and more ridiculous. Like Nathan Fillion's character married to gay people as he arrest them. Really stupid and impossible. That is why I stopped watching it. Not only was it becoming just like any other left-wing bash you over the head with arm lack of morals vision of what Society should be but it was getting more and more impossible and more and more ridiculous. I could not stand it any longer. JJ Abrams Star Trek was more realistic and that had a lot of ridiculous absurd science in it. Just want to make you puke.
I think Nathan has a knack for creating chemistry with almost everyone. Always been a self-aware, emotionally-intelligent and fun-loving fella who genuinely likes people and keeps his ego in check. Charming qualities and good to see in such a successful actor.
What really pisses me of is all these studios bringing back all these old shows no one asked for...but Firerfly??? Nooooo that would be bad business to bring back a show everyone actually wants.
He will always be my castle to me... 🧡 and damn, 48 years old but still more handsome and charming than many many twenties! "It's hard to make people laugh but it's very easy to make them laugh at you"... love you nathan!!
