The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was an Islamic republic that governed most of Afghanistan between 2004 and 2021 during the War in Afghanistan.
Following the withdrawal of NATO troops in 2021, the Taliban launched a massive military offensive in May 2021, allowing the Islamic Emirate to take control of the country over the following three and a half months. The Afghan Armed Forces rapidly disintegrated. The republic collapsed on 15 August 2021, when Taliban forces entered Kabul and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

@@danielpeter3834 the borders stay the same, just like the country. The only thing that changed is the regime and system of government, as well as laws and national symbols. The Sudan-South Sudan thing in July 2011 is the most recent case of borders changing we have had, and the last country to be completely dissolved was Serbia and Montenegro in June 2006.

There is a resistance under the Legitimate president, Amrullah Saleh. Many Northern Alliance warlords have joined him, and multiple cities near Panjshir have been retaken. According to unconfirmed reports, Mazar-i-Sharif may even be liberated in the coming days. The government may be nearly dead, but it still has those who will yet fight for it.
