⟪Anthem⟫
"Бо́же, Царя́ храни́!", transliterated "Bozhe, Tsarya khrani!", in Spanish "God Save the Tsar!", was the national anthem of the Russian Empire (1721-1917) adopted from 1833 to 1917.
In 1833, Alexei Fyodorovich Lvov accompanied Nicholas I during his visit to Austria and Prussia, where the emperor was received everywhere to the tune of the English hymn. Since the late 18th century, the tune of Great Britain's anthem had been used by various powers, including Russia. The emperor listened to the tune of monarchical solidarity without enthusiasm and on his return instructed Lvov, as the closest musician to him, to compose a new anthem. The hymn was chosen from a contest held in 1833 and was performed for the first time on December 18, 1833. It was composed by the violinist Alexei Lvov, with lyrics written by the court poet Vasily Zhukovsky, under the name "Prayer of the Russian people", and from December 31, 1833 it became the official anthem of the Russian Empire under the new name "God save the Tsar!"
