As an American, I didn't even know this tournament existed.....🤣 Doesn't bother me, that doesn't look like any football I would watch. Looks like some third rate high school football to me.
@@sailingadventurerwrong there’s only so many top athletes in a sport they are actively recruiting in Japan stop spreading lies about things you don’t know and there were 0 notable names on the US team D3 is essentially high school level players here
Football in Japan is quite popular. It may not be on the same level as baseball, but the sport has gradually grown and is considered the third best pro football league in the world.
We had a foreign exchange student from Brazil try out for football. He had no understanding whatsoever of the game. He thought it was soccer or like soccer. The first time he tried to hit someone he got decleated and wanted to quit. We found out he could make 50+ yard field goals all day long though so we found a way for him to play.
In 1981, a Japanese artist/mangaka called Yoichi Takahasi made Captain Tsubasa before Japanese good at football/soccer. Now they almost in every World Cup edition and one of the greatest team in Asia. In 2008, a Japanese artist/mangaka called Murata made Eyeshield 21, a manga about american football in high school level even thou almost every Japanese had no idea about American Football, and now U20 Japan American Football team beat USA U20. What next? Kaiju?
Captain Tsubasa also give birth to many2 italian and latin america soccer players. including some legendary ones will cite tsubasa as inspiration. hell, tsubasa official team being barcelona have raise some conversation among players who adore tsubasa.
@@cpt.silverwolf9747 the tsubasa anime is aired in south europe and latin america under different name. Also need to be noted, back then, japan pastime sport is baseball. Soccer was not popular in japan before tsubasa. Tsubasa literally make the sport popular in japan
I know this is a "Haha America lost" moment" but I actually like this. The fact that Japan has football players that can beat us (even if they're obviously not our best lol) only helps grow the game. Hopefully some young japanese kids watch that game and gain interest in football.
@@awill3454I saw a cricket video game. Said to my friend, does the US even have a cricket team? Next day I see the news we beat Pakistan. Guess that answers that question. Lol
All fine and good, doesn't mean they are "on the level" as the U.S. in American football, we should never lose to a foreign team... are you serious?? I played semi-pro football in Germany for 4 years and they had some good players and very good teams, but the reason they were fgood was because of the American player that were allowed to be on the field on each side, offense/defense, which was typically 2 to 3 at one time.
I used to go to Kansai university and they had an amazing football team. Football isn't a massively popular sport in Japan, but for the people that get into it: they are in it 100%. Japanese people are crazy competitive in any sport they enter.
@@viktorstagnetti7491 Definitely no High level HS players either since I've seen a few of the HS recruits who are already athletic as hell. They keep getting more athletic out of High School.
We need to build a World-Class USA Football Academy in the mountains of Alaska, send them there for 10 months. They will wrestle grizzly bears & dredge for oil. Swim laps in the arctic & learn to catch 7 lb. frozen footballs launched by wooden catapults. Coaches will be Navy Seal instructors.
Exactly this was under 20 but yeah put all those kids that are going to go to college that got scholarships not a bunch of kids that weren't even good enough to go to a mediocre college
Among the athletes traveling to Canada are four-star Notre Dame commit Davion Dixon, uncommitted three-star athlete Bryce Williams and CHSAA 4A First Team All-State specialist Rhett Armstrong. The quarterback room features several notable faces. Ambidextrous quarterback Mikey Gow, who became a viral sensation in 2022, is making the trip to Canada alongside former 16U U.S. National Team member Aliam Appler, who is training to walk on at Florida Atlantic University.
Few D3 guys and 1-3 D2 players. Is it really surprising though? Are you going to risk injury and losing your starting spot on an SEC or B1G team to go play in an exhibition game that means nothing?
Cool Jef I sent this to Aya sorry for the swearing if it’s online they can break the FCC rules on swearing. USA can’t use the excuse that they had little practice when Japan had only 4 practices as an all star team. Go gettum take Canada and prove them wrong. But this Mcafee Show is big time national show.
You do realize that Japan recruits the best players possible, while the US just played whoever could pay to join the team. I watched the game, there is no way those O-line and D-line from the US were first string on high school teams, they sucked that bad. Team USA needs to become funded by the NCAA and then we send our all-star prospects for college ball as the team.
Watched I think was a Japanese professional game a few years back on RU-vid. I thought they could beat some college division 2 teams. What kept me watching was the players love of the game. They were not coasting.
The IFAF World Cup has been played 5 times, but not since 2015. Japan won the 2 that the US didn't participate in, and finished 2nd twice when the US won, taking the US to overtime once but getting blown out in the last one. I'd say Japan is comparable to a lower half FCS team. You can't just throw any group of Americans out there and beat them.
@@whoknew124 a CLUB World Cup would be like the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions vs the ELF’s Vienna Vikings. It’s teams from other countries playing each other
People that's shouting "impossible" should know that Japan has a surprisingly rich history of American Football in their country that spans many decades. Recommend looking into it.
One of the guys I've been wrestling with for over 10 years is a player-coach on a team in the 2nd division of the league here in Japan. They truly play for the love of the game and are SO athletic and scrappy. Also never discount the discipline of young athletes or lack thereof on teams.
Not surprised, they beat our majors in baseball! The world caught up to us while we rest on past times when we dominated! Not to mention we being the best talent from other countries to our leagues but they represent their countries during the games.
Where have you been? Many countries have national teams. Also many former D1 players and current NFL players played in this tournament. USA Football’s U.S. National Team boasts a wide selection of accomplished alumni at the professional and college levels, including former NFL All-Pros Trevon Diggs, Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Poyer, Jonathan Taylor and Wyatt Teller and first round selections Rashod Bateman, Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Chase Young.
Because American football players don’t actually work on basic techniques. Everybody is worried about their combined numbers and making their footwork look pretty that nobody does the basics well anymore.
@@luishernandez05 I thought you guys learned from when you lost on basketball but nah. "we didnt send our best" is a decent excuse tho, maybe you should try it for a third time. Couldn't be bothered sending "their best' while getting slaughtered and claiming "world champions". Good one
@@ezelegui7901but they’re not professional players lol it’s the under 20 team ?😂😂and on top of that I’m pretty sure they’re wasn’t a single top USA player under 20 on the team just a bunch of above average high school players playing against japans best kids I’m assuming. But I’m prepared to be proven wrong just let me know which kid on team USA was or is a top recruit.
Blessed to spend time with Team Japan this week. Personally 35 yrs of coaching. These coaches absolutely know their stuff and the players are great. It would be dead wrong to miss the point growing the sport world wide is a great thing. That means sometimes you lose in these events.
The amount of times you see "World Champions" for national leagues in America, then the US struggles to beat South Sudan in Basketball and Japan in American Football.
That's how we do it in America 🇺🇸 😂. Next olympics, our government is paying college footballs best players to come dominate it and get us that gold medal 🏅 baby!
In Edmonton during the Stanley Cup and the top four teams are very good for U20 Austria almost beat Canada in the other semi. Check out # of Canadians in Div 1 football and Basketball euros in the NBA draft. It’s a big world
Sorry for the late post. I am Japanese who live in Japan. Please remember that Japan defeated USA in last year's WBC final. People in the USA, it's time to get used to USA losing to Japan.
American People thinks that they dominante sports like baseball or american football around the world, but, it is not true. They need a competition like soccer World cup in both sports to realize their real level .
CANADA MADE AMERICAN FOOTBALL!! “In May 1874, after a match against McGill University of Montreal, the Harvard players decided they preferred McGill’s rugby-style rules to their own,” “In fact, the Harvard squad extremely enjoyed the Canadian innovations. 😅 If not for CANADA American football today would be a soccer game with touchdowns!
Lived in Japan half my life and this is what I think... There aren't many junior high schools that have American football in Japan.. so there are a few private high schools that have teams at a "club" level. Japanese athletic clubs are year long and they are intense.. many have practices before and after school. After four years of school, students who have no experience coming in can become quite good with all the practice that they do. As many people have stated.. football is not widely known in the general population.. Most student probably can't name a single player.. but they can name many NBA players and European soccer players. I don't know much about the American team that played, but I imagine it is a team of college All Stars.. who haven't played much together.. while the Japanese team was probably preparing for this game for months. Also. I can't imagine playing with jet lag in the intense summer heat of Japan. I don't even like to go outside for a walk when its hot in Japan
I thought when i click that they are talking about soccer. Then they said american football i was shocked. Didn't know american football is a thing in any other country. And apparently, they are better.
The American public was never notified that this game was happening and not only that, none of us recognized a single name that was sent over there. So that team may say TEAM USA, but nobody who was actually good at the game was sent. To put it in comparison, it’s like sending the fans of a national team’s bench to play against Argentina in the World Cup, that’s the literal context. These aren’t actually players, just players who thought they could’ve played.
This is the same situation that happened with the Baseball World Cup. The tournament doesn't mean anything so either the 4-5 star athletes dont want to go especially since they have to pay for entry and potentially risk getting injured and losing out on their future careers or they want to go and the coaches won't let them for the same reason.
As Japanese, this is so surprising for me 😂cuz it’s like you guys US team beat us at Kendō. Actually most Japanese people still confuse American football with rugby 😅 マジで日本がアメリカに勝つとか意味わからん草 頗る半端ねー I hope some Japanese players join the NFL team someday haha
It's pretty absurd that Japan beats the USA in Football but just as insane as the Superbowl winners calling themselves World Champions when no other country plays professional football. I played Tight End for the British American football team and represented Great Britain on tour in England, Wales, California and Australia, Hawaia. Beat the piss out of Australia in NSW (I caught the only passing touchdown) but the US (Cal Tech) beat us-it was a blast! Circa 1989!
The tournament is for kids 20 and under so, NFL Players are off the table. But we have Highschool seniors and College Freshman WHO ARE DAWGS. We need to take it more seriously
Got beat by a country that doesn't have any interest in the sport, and there's no international professional team competitions to help them grow faster lol.
I must say, even I, a Japanese, could not have imagined this outcome. It is true that in the world of rugby, Japan pulled off one of the greatest giant-killing feats of all time, and the Japanese team has since come to be recognized as a strong team. But rugby is a sport with as long a history in Japan as baseball or soccer. American football is quite different. Even the players on the Japanese rugby team will tell you that American football is the soul of America, the best in the world, without a doubt. Japan does not even have a professional American football league, let alone a high-level national championship. Maybe the Japanese team did the best they could with the most talented players and coaches in history, but neither rugby nor American football can be won by luck or a little bit of talent. Everyone may be surprised and unconvinced by this result, but the U.S. team coach should be the first one to explain how this happened.
To be fair, Japan sent their best. American sent mediocre-mid level players. If Japan was playing against top prospects or higher caliber players. This would look like the Cumberland-Georgia State game.
