That's DAVE! This is ONE of the BEST PROG-FUSION-CANTEBURY ALBUMS EVER!!!!!

This might be a good time to mention Matching Mole, the band Robert Wyatt formed after leaving Soft Machine. Their first self-titled album features Dave Sinclair (taking a brief holiday from Caravan) on keyboards and Phil MIller on guitar. Yet another Dave - a certain Mr McRae from New Zealand) would later tickle the ivories in addition to arranging the music for anarchic TV comedy show The Goodies.

All of the wild shredding at the beginning is Dave Stewart on the organ. Phil Miller told Dave to go crazy on it :-) I love Dave's playing on organ and the Rhodes. Very tight and inspired playing on the whole album.

They used to joke that they kept breaking drummers - didn’t stop Pip Pyle and Bruford working with them! Saw them live many times both as Hatfield and the North and National Health - largely the same band! Excellent live as they stretched their improv muscles to great effect

Dave shreds hard on the keys in this song.

Well played, a bit more jazzy than I like especially the last section, light jazz.

Saw National Health live twice back in the day. Would probably be in my list of time machine moments (things you would go back to if you had a time machine) I once did a trip to Canterbury (at the other side of the country from me) not for the famous cathedral, but for the Kent county cricket ground and simply to experience where these guys came from. The distorted wah-wah bits are definitely organ.

This is definitely on the rockier side of fusion. I like it. It has drive, groove, some nice melodic themes and super smooth transitions that give a sense of overall direction and shape. In fact it's in much better shape than the other National Health Service! 😁

Now this's the ticket... Another brilliant track on a near perfect album. And all those transitions, so easy to get wrong, muddled even, here woven together seamlessly. And boy these guys can play, this's top notch noodling of the highest calibre. No wonder it's been in my top ten LP's virtually from the first day I listened to it. Oh, and the highest grade of Kobe beef, A5 😊

Loving this, thank you so much for giving this album a chance. Also the next track on the album "Binoculars"... it´s just so amazing, it fits so well, I´m so excited.

My guess would be Hammond organ with loads of distortion and a Wah ;)

Wow, this is something special, I haven’t heard anything about this group, thank you, I’ll definitely take an in-depth look at their work, it’s clearly interesting and sweet, I’ll add something from this to my personal playlist.

If you like this try HATN as well. Basically the same band.

Music preferences say more about our own selves than they do about quality of the work or even an artist's intent. Just saying "I like" or "ugh, no" alone tells little and leaves people vulnerable to misinterpreting one's esthetic values and/or subjective reasoning that caused us to react that way. Thanks for always giving us more than that, no matter whether I agree or disagree with comments from you or others here!

This is my favourite tune in this album. And Dave Stewart is in flames in the first part! After finishing this album please check their first one. It's even better.

This is the song that really made me realize how awesome Dave Stewart is. That opening Hammond abuse is insane.

This album was my fuckin jam when i was like 15, i always get so invested in the instrumentals. Canterbury scene was honestly peak 70s prog for me.

Dave Stewart is possibly the most under-rated keyboard player on the planet. I tend to prefer Hatfield & The North because of Richard Sinclair and The Northettes, but all the Canterbury Scene stuff is epic. Caravan are still my favorite though!

This is what happens when you play an organ through guitar effects pedals. Chick Corea used to use them when Return to Forever first went electric, and with Mahavishnu Jan Hammer would sometimes play his keyboards through Marshall guitar amps.

Jazz/fusion of the highest order!!! I think it's keyboards with a bender.

Complex Groovy and quite frankly outrageously ridiculous in a subdued confident posture which leaves a scattered trail of paper that states No we don't need economics of musical industries to play our funk Why not indeed JP. I had never heard of National Health b4 Just JP. Pat Travers and Colosseum II have just been challenged to a duel at 05.48 this very morn! And it's gonna be electric.

Not Phil, Dave Stewart is kind of like the Jimi Hendrix on the hammond organ, distortion, flange, cry baby, you name it, and hes so melodic.
