Many years ago, before the SFRA was active, I got permission to fly along the south side of the Washington Mall. As I flew over, the flight controller said, "Say intentions". I responded, "We will stay south of the mall. Then fly south along the Potomac River." Several times he repeated this call. Then, I asked in a friendly tone why he kept asking me? With a slight giggle, he said, "Cause I have to". It was very cool.

At 3:49 just under the right wheel, in front of the bridge, on the river side of the narrow grass field is the monument to the fist air mail flight. I see some conflicting information online but that field may have been the site of the launch of the first scheduled air mail flight. What a fun flight!

is there a map of the full route; wondering whether my kids will be able to see the planes from River Bend Park north of Great Falls Nat Park. thanks.
