The NMEC is a large museum with 4.9 lakhs sq mtr in area located in Old Cairo. It is the oldest archeological museum in the Middle East, housing over 1,70,000 artefacts. The museum's exhibits span the Pre-Dynastic period till the Graeco-Roman Era (5500BC - AD 364).
About 2600BCE, during the fourth and fifth Dynasties, Egyptians probably began to mummify the dead intentionally. The practice continued and developed for over 2000 years, into the Roman period.
You can see, among others the mummies of King Ramses II, King Seqenenre Tao, Queen Hatshepsut, QueenTiye, King Seti I and Queen Ahmose Nefertari.
