I just received a letter for them and instantly started doing research because I wasn’t familiar with the organization as well thank god i seen this 🤦🏾♂️🙏🏾
Be careful, they are now putting the name of the high-school you attend on the envelope making it look as if your high-school helped them to select you
yeah I just asked my councelor about it , seems kinda sus thought I have a membership code that enters me to a website that seems legicts and they got students that have earned things from them talking about their experience.
I just got one yesterday and it's true they have my school name and everything it's horrible how they are just doing this to high school students we don't need things like this wasting our time it's horrible honestly
Hey guys who received a letter this was 3 nearly 4 years ago, i got my letter and did research aswell extending further than this video and this coverage watched several videos (actual students who joined and succeeded in it). I believe this society has (up to this point from this video) became a real asset and is now something us high achieving students could actually take into consideration of joining. (I may not be correct but I am personally going to join based off the recent positive coverage in 2021 from students who joined of this society )
And why are we not asking the question about how they get our children information?! How do they know of my child’s name , grade? And why are we not holding them accountable for stealing families $ by charging members fee?
@LawlietsLeftEyelash Same! This is so frustrating! Our kids work so hard at being academic scholars, and people like this send misleading info taking advantage of students and parents.
This is funny because I also got a letter but I laughed at it because I knew I didn't have the grades for this and I KNEW that I definitely did not have the min GPA for something like this.
I was kinda excited to see what it was but after reading that I had to pay 75 to be a member for a society they wanted me to join... *walking to the nearest garbage can*
I got invited for NSHSS and I definitely have the gpa and grades available for it. At first I was so suprised and excited but a little digging is more than enough in my opinion. I have the money to spend on it yes, but it's way too shady in my opinion.
@@hopehope5406 i did not accept and i didn’t pay anything, since you’ve paid already it’s generally pretty useless and won’t help you but you might get some things like a shirt and such. don’t rely on it or expect anything else from it
I got an invitation in the mail a couple days ago. I was considering it because it sounded like an opportunity. After texting some friends, I found out that some people had been invited with a total disregard to them failing classes not to mention that they had a $75 fee just to get some scholarships. Big no go for me
Yeah I recently received a letter from NSHSS and I asked my old Algebra 2 teacher about it, whom is a part of the NHS group. She told me that it’s just looking for peoples money!
i started getting emails and letters with them 10 years later high school, and I did horrible! Literally left with a 2.0 GPA lol. Im like aw yeah. This is definitely a scam. Especially 10 years after high school 😂
Or, or, or, you could also join the military. I heard that they house you, feed you and even pay for your college. Although, life expectancy can be as short 3 seconds.
I got one of those NSHSS letter back in Summer 2013 one month before starting 11th Grade and fell for it. I never got any scholarship at all. I paid back my mom $60, threw all of useless papers, the membership card and t-shirt in the dumpster and never looked back. Don't do it. I wish I was able to go back in time and stop my 16 year old self from accepting the letter.
Im glad I decided to do research into this. I almost fell for it because I finished an incredible academic year after Sophmore but I also seemed skeptical about it. I found out even someone's cat and fish got an invitation letter.
This helps out a lot actually, Thank you they just sent one to me and I had to ask my step mom which is a college professor if this was even a real thing so really, Thank you!
I've been getting emails and just got a letter from them a few days ago. I finally decided to go on the website today and saw that I had to pay a fee of $75.00 for scholarships and other opportunities. My mom was telling me I should do it, but I knew it was a scam(my school counselor talks about how there is never a fee for scholarships). I'm just glad I didn't waste my money.
I just got a letter from this organization and it is now a $90 fee.. This is so frustrating because my daughter has been on academic honor roll with a 3.9-4.0 GPA and in AP classes since she was in middle school, she will be a Junior fall 2024. At 1st I thought it was National Honor Society, then realized it was NSHSS, which is NOT the same. Furthermore you shouldn't have to pay a fee to be in the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. I'm glad I came across this, but not happy that I have to tell my daughter that this isn't something applauding her academic achievements, and rather a scam. How is this even legal?
I got a letter for this a few years back in high school, I immediately was skeptical. Did some light research and easily discovered it was a scam. I still see parents driving around with the NSHSS bumper stickers and I really can't help but laugh. My boyfriend had a 2.6 GPA in high school yet he got a membership with this society! Lol So sad that people are easily fooled
Sameee. I’m an average student that works with the situations that handed at me during school. Like for example, completing work, asking for help when needed, working on assignments outside of class, talking to my teachers, and studying occasionally. And I’m doing well. But this letter made me question what efforts I’d be putting in and where, the now, 75$ fee would go.
@@yesseniachavez4080 I got it as well and i say don't do it there is a lot of talk that its a scam and i would rather play it safe i was going to do it beacuse it looked so real it had my school name and everything but i started to see what the thing was about and saw all the negative stuff about it and that changed my mind fast honestly i'm very upset because i thought this would help me but knowing what i know now i am so not going to join and also pay a 75 dollar fee to be in it thats nasty what they are doing honestly don't do it i'm on the same boat as you right now and i feel like its a risk to do it i don't want you to get scammed
@@juliannalopez4428 Nah fr I'm about to cry I paid and everything then decided to do my research I'm so dumb bruh I didn't even want to do it in the first place then my parents pressured me into doing it. I should've looked for it.
@@adjadoumbia1003 omg i'm so sorry about that but it isn't your fualt it was a mistake it almost got me everything looked so real i mean they even used the fancy papers lol but anyway i think you can get your money back but idk maybe you can call and ask them but take it easy it was a mistake that i am sure everyone or at least a good amount of people made.
i got a letter the first year ever that i failed a class or got anything below an a. but they only select "elite" students. a lot of people say they have good experiences but have you ever actually gone to their events and got internship opportunities/scholarships from them? have you ever seen anything past their own content? also, when i got the letter i looked into their website and it seemed fun. but what also threw me off is that literally all of their events were in georgia or the north east coast. thats when i gave up on joining, because if i wanted to participate i would have to make trips that take over a day. and their information on the letter wasnt the same as the website. they didnt even really give information about their scholarships or internships or events, past the names of them or how much money they had.
omg they bumped up the money to 90? I got mine a year ago and they asked for 75 bucks. What is wrong with this organization? i'm glad you didn't pay for it its such a scam.
@@vex7924 absolutely not! I don't even have þe ease to just pay all þat money right away, and don't do it, according to a lot of people, þey don't even do anyþing for you after paying, it's just a fancy decoration
Glad I did research because im a junior and im a average student and thought it was fishy and too good to be true so I did research and obviously it's a scam
Beastin Out collgeboard is for people who take AP exams, that’s the name of the whole website and when you take an AP exam you have to put in all of your info and they ask you if it’s okay for colleges to see your score and give you scholarships
I got invited to it and the $75 fee tipped me off. I previously joined an organization that promised the same thing but was free and it was a waste of time honestly, I asked the top people of that "how do I apply to scholarships", they told me to just asked my counselor. The whole thing was basically an add of colleges. I don't like these sort of organizations, good thing I didn't pay the dumb $75 fee.
I got invited to it as well a day ago and the samething with a 75 dollar fee this is horrible honestly idk how companies that do this are allowed to stay in business they are scamming us its just horribly i'm also glad i did resarch because if not i would have joined the thing is that it looked so real had the school name and eveything so that's what caught me off guard.
They bumped it up to 90 dollars this year. I just got their letter in the mail and it’s summer so I can’t contact anyone at my school to confirm that they sent it but I assume that it must be fake. My parents are really convinced though so I’m not sure how to tell them it’s just a scam to take their money
I got an invitation yesterday and I was literally about to join and pay like right now cuz I thought it was legit until my friend said it was a scam so I was researching and looking at articles and stuff and I'm glad I stumbled upon this video I can't believe I was a clown T_T
Well my son got one too and I paid $75 and we will be going to their UCLA event. I want my son to meet students who also have like minded parents----who want their child to go out there and see what's up for grabs and what isn't.
Wowww im a mother and thought the same for my child this is really messed up... im soo glade I came across this i was doing more research on this and this video says it all...
I just got a letter today. The thing is, I have great grade and in lot of programs. But when I saw this, I did cry with joy, but I had to do my research. I have never heard of this organization. I'm happy that I found this out before paying anything. When I was looking for the background of nshss, on the website they talks about how these accusations are false, but still. I'm just happy that me and my mom are smart enough to do background check. Edit: Me and my mom still don't know what to do. I have look deeper and have seen some videos on people who went into Nshss and I found a girl. She talk about all the things she did in the program. And I knew that what she was saying wasn't stage because she had to correct what she was saying. There was zero edits, base off the fact of all the pausing and pronouncing mistakes. Anyway, she talk about how it help her and her journey. She never made a single comment about acknowledging the fact that people were talking about scams or anything in that nature. It was all just about what great things she had achieved being in the program. So, I don't fully know if it a scam or not. In the end, whatever decision I make won't affect me or my family negatively. You need to hear it from both sides. You can't just believe everything that's on the news and you can't believe everything a website tells you. So that why I pacifically looked for students instead of so called "parents" because they can always be fake. Either way I try to get all perspectives, because you can't never be too careful. I'm writing this comment for other people(like me) who watch this video that wants to learn more. And explaining my situation. In the end Just look deeper into things. Sometimes things are not what you think they are.
Good news. Me and my mom has chose not to do it, We unsubscribed and we're no longer getting notifications. Thank to everyone to gave me comments. And Thank to my mom for making smart calls.
Anyone confusing NHS and NSHSS should be blaming themselves. It's really obvious the two aren't the same and there is nothing in the NSHSS materials that could even be confused with NHS. Plenty of legitimate organizations in every field require registration fees; California Scholarship Federation is one for students that does, but there are countless professional orgs that do the same thing (Rotary, doctors associations, teachers associations, etc). If a cost to join is made clear and it's made obvious what you're joining, how is it a "scam"? Plus, they offer full fee waivers for those unable to pay. It's irresponsible to call something a scam just because people aren't educating themselves.
Having an NSHSS title means nothing when added to a college resume and with desperate parents and students, its not uncommon to confuse the two since they are close in name. Saying that this isnt a scam is embarrassing because its the definition of one. Earning a title that means absolutely nothing? Offering the waivers isnt even true so please actually pay attention to the basics before writing bs.
Yo, around June, I got a letter from them, and I keep forgetting to tell my parents about i. But around the deadline, I had lost interest in joining, and thank god I made that decision.
Bruh I already paid for it and got everything in the mail and was immediately sketched tbh but my parents didnt end up paying for it a family member did and honestly it looks good when applying for jobs (sad ik) and they wont look into it enough to see what it truly is.
Trust! I also thought the same thing, but NSHSS has connected me w amazing people and less competitive scholarships that you can apply for. They also have an ambassador program w student-led nonprofit organizations, ranging from military families to mental health. I would go with your gut though. The fee helps fund the scholarships and resources..
