@@cmudd9788😂😂😂 I mean, you’re not wrong at all! There are a few other actors who can do this - like Daniel Craig makes us buy into the bind movies but when you take a step back….kinda cheesy right? Especially now when the super spy idea has been run into the ground. But Skyfall still slaps regardless and personally, I fuck with Spectre (I know a lot of ppl didn’t) so anyways - you’re right there are a few ppl who can make cheesy work and Cage is like the king of it

@@cmudd9788 Exactly. With this movie you do not like it despite the cheese, you like it BECAUSE of the cheese. The cheesy nature of it all is so good. Plus, we get Sean Bean as the villain AND he lives? I would argue that this movie is a rare treat for all movie lovers.

@@rohandante I haven’t been keeping up with what counts as “Disney” nowadays, so I’m curious as to which properties/productions you refer. To be clear, I’m not asking you to *convince* me (or anyone) of whether any particular movie, series, etc. is good or bad. And I DEFINITELY don’t want to get into politics of it all because that seems like a total cluster-****. Cheesy is what makes this film work! Treasure, clues, mystery, a splash of romance, side kick humor, Nick's trademark dead pan line delivery, blended with all our U.S.A. lore & history is the perfect combination of cheesy. It's why this film is still so endearing to us 20 yrs later.

I don’t understand this notion that just because a movie isn’t realistic, automatically makes it bad… It’s a movie. It’s fiction, and made for our entertainment. And if a movie is 100% realistic and grounded in reality doesn’t necessarily make it better. Just never really understood that logic. Otherwise, this was a great reaction! I love this movie so much, one of my favorites ever since I was a kid. It’s just pure nostalgia for me. I hope you can watch the second movie as well, Book of Secrets. It’s great too.
@juliereginadougherty
@juliereginadougherty 10 месяцев назад
Saaaame, this drives me crazy. Making a movie like this "more realistic" would not make it better. The "convenience" of all the different puzzle pieces is what makes it fun! The pieces aren't just falling into their laps, you see them working out the clues in real time, it's supposed to scratch the itch of successfully solving a puzzle, and I think it does that beautifully
@peterlewis2178
@peterlewis2178 10 месяцев назад
The interesting thing, too, is that basically any form of storytelling media has elements of this. The only difference is that you usually aren't consciously aware of or don't think about the things that are unrealistic. I mean, some basic film ones are the fact that there's a musical score, or that lighting is often manufactured and you never get accurate dark lighting because then you wouldn't see anything. Or when actors are wearing makeup that the actual person wouldn't be wearing. There's so many examples of this. It's just that when a particular deviation from reality is a bit more foreign to a person, they tend to be wary of it. A great example is how people who haven't really seen musicals often find them weird and jarring because of how "unrealistic" it is for people to break into song and dance. But people who grow up with them don't find it jarring at all, because it's just a normal element of the medium. Basically, it all comes down to how much exposure someone has to a different style of storytelling, and how open they are to accepting those differences. Honestly, I'd even argue a lot of this applies to musical tastes as well, and any plethora of other forms of media.

Yes, every movie requires a certain amount of suspension of disbelief, but that is easier for some people and in some genres than others. Some people are fine with weird things but not others, and that's ok. Thats why we have many types of movies for many types of people. They have a right to dislike something as much as you have a right to like it. Personally I think liking movies is more fun than not liking them, but sometimes you don't get to make that call. Sometimes a random thing will take you out of a film and ruin it even though you wish you could love it.

39:50 The Pyramids are definitely man-made and we have a pretty good idea of how they built them. The structure isn't all that complicated--although the cathedrals in Europe were much smaller, they are technically much more challenging. Moving and carving large pieces of stone is easy if you have enough people and time.

Well, if my friend said they were a treasure hunter, I’d find it 100% cooler than being a RU-vid reactor, so there’s that. Lmao

When you talk about killing people in a Disney movie, the high kill count in “The Three Musketeers” (1993) comes to mind. Good movie, you should give it a watch.

I honestly loved this movie. History is a passion of mine, and this goes back to a time where people made movies for the intent of entertaining people with a good story; not forsake that story with woke propaganda and then spit on potential ticket buyers before the movie is even released. EDIT: To answer your question about the pyramids being man made, yes they were. It would take roughly fifteen or thirty years to construct one, and it would thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of slaves to build them. Egypt did have a system for measurement and calculation along with vast materials to build primitive cranes and pulleys. Remember, they considered the pharaohs to be gods in human form, so no expense was spared when it came to building their tombs.

It amazes me how no one recognizes Sean Bean in movies...And in this one he didn't even die! His friend did though, so he was death-adjacent.

I love this movie. Yes, it is cheesy and totally unrealistic but it's a fun ride! As a history buff, I loved all the historical tidbits. For the record, the fates of the 56 men who signed the DOI was just as horrific as Ben listed at @ 15:20. Five of them were imprisoned and tortured to death. Some died from wounds during the Revolutionary War. Two had their sons held as ransom during the war. Two others had their sons die during the war. Quite a few had their homes pillaged and burned to the ground. Many had to take their family and go in to hiding. One, John Hart, was driven from his dying wife's bedside and forced to flee. His children had to flee also. He had to live in the woods for a year and never saw his children again. Another signer's wife was imprisoned and tortured to death. She died after a few months. Prior to the war, most of them were merchants, lawyers and land owners and the majority would die in poverty. We remember the ones who became presidents and statesmen but the majority paid heavily for signing the DOI. They really did pledge everything and now, 247 years afterward, we have this great movie to watch. Seems like a good trade off! :)

39:41 Someone’s probably already told you this but in case they haven’t, it’s the opposite. It’s proven that the Egyptians were fully capable of the mathematics and masonry required to build the pyramids. It’s a marvel for sure, but the propaganda that ancient civilizations were incapable of such things is rooted in old people racism, not in any verifiable evidence.

Fun fact: the outdoor parts of the 'artic circle' scene near the beginning was filmed at strawberry reservoir in Utah during winter. The crew had to clean up every scrap from the explosion so it didnt end up in the lake when the snow melted.

The pyramids were made by a pully system they found spiraling inside of the walls kinda like a tunnel. There's a documentary on the guy who figured it out and he had to jump thru hoops to break down a wall. When they did they found the pully system. It super dope

No, it has not been proven the pyramids can't be man made. The greeks were making extremely precise measurements at that time as well. Humans have been measuring and aligning things for THOUSANDS of years. Long before even the pyramids. The part many questioned was how they moved the blocks... but even that has been shown to not be as difficult as it seems. And now it's thought that they didn't even take as long as we think it took... and largely was NOT done with slave labor but by the farmers during the non growing/planting season, for which they were paid as civil workers. Stonehenge also has been shown to be extremely within the known capabilities of humans at the time it was built.

With things like the pyramid, the problem that individuals have nowadays is, they think everything was primitive back then. It wasn’t. I live in Israel. We have archaeological sites here, that you would be stunned the level of what they accomplished. Just because they didn’t have a computer chips and smart phones does not mean that they were primitive. They were pretty smart.
