This is the lovely main title of one of the most charming movies ever put to celluloid. National Velvet is the simple story of a young girl, Velvet Brown (Elizabeth Taylor), who dreams of entering her horse The Pi into the world's most prestigious horse race: The Grand National. With the help of young Mi Taylor, a young man with a mysterious past and an excellent knowledge of horses, Velvet just might have a chance at winning her greatest aspiration, as well as finding out who she is along the way.
In more modern takes on this type of tale it would automatically become cheesy schlock without any charm or magic, but with the gentle writing, pitch-perfet score, loveable well-developed characters and engaging locales of National Velvet this movie has ended up being greatly beloved by parents and their children alike.
In a time with so much strife National Velvet is an honest look at family values and will instantly have you nostalgic for the beauty that lies in an innocent childhood.
