Byambakhuu Darichuluun, a native of the Arkhangai Province in Central Mongolia, came to New York City in 2011 to fulfill his nomadic quest--as many native Mongols are wont to do--and to study more about life in America. In turn, he now educates traveling New Yorkers about his home country and has founded the Mongol Heritage Foundation, whose mission is to promote and preserve their culture and history, which includes sharing culinary traditions.
In this episode, Byambakhuu shares his recipe for curdling an ancient creamy Mongolian cheese known as Byaslag, using two everyday store-bought ingredients familiar to most Americans: Whole Milk and Plain Yogurt.
Through his foundation, he also curates several events annually that invite Mongolian-Americans and New Yorkers alike to celebrate Mongolian traditions.
