This is the second of a three-part series with Karina Veaudry. In this segment Karina will discuss landscape design techniques that work with native Florida plants that you can use in your residence or your business. You will learn the basics of designing for habitat, harmony, function, genus loci, grading & drainage, spatial definition, viewsheds, screening, and energy efficiency.
Karina Veaudry is a Landscape Architect and the President of the Pine Lily Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society.

One thing I've encountered since moving to FL in 2019, is that gardening is year round. The plants you place in full sun for the summer don't die off, shed leaves or go dormant. And for a few months, they can be in full shade. That has been a challenge. So many more things to think about. I do appreciate the insight and expertise in using FL natives and the emphasis on those endemic to your area when possible.

I am planting trees at a park in Ocala, Florida. This area has a couple of large ponds, can you recommend tree species, we have Red Maple, swamp magnolia, and redbuds already.

Trees that do well in wet areas: Florida Elm, Pignut Hickory, Pop Ash, Red/Swamp Bay, Sweet Bay Magnolias, Pond Cypress, Bald Cypress, Red Maple, Live Oak, Titi, Boxy Elder, Virginia Willow, Water Oak, Southern Magnolia, Sugarberry, Swamp Dogwood, Swamp/Water Hickory, Sand Live Oak, Sand Pine, Red Cedar, Long Leaf Pine, Persimmon, Dahoon Holly, Laurel Oak, Green Buttonwood, Pond Apple, Wax Myrtle, Marlberry...
