Thanks for this review it's exactly what I needed. Watched a few others and they were kind of okay but didn't cover most of the details I wanted like the monitoring situation. From what some were saying it sounded like you literally couldn't monitor your sound through anything but headphones but knowing you can but it just goes through your PC first is awesome. Great stuff!
Brilliant explanation of the Komplete device. Like you said instead of wow-ing the device in 5 minutes, you take your time to show the real capabilities of this thing which can be different from the advertised caps like you showed on the 'latency chapter'. Great review Molten Music! Looks like a neat little device. Most controllers today are usb anyways so the removal of the midi in/out is probably not an issue for many laptop producers on the move. ;) Love your content!

Definitely getting this interface. All my monitoring is handled through a small mixer, I just need balanced inputs and outputs, and this seems like a great option for that.
Hey man, I see you have this AI and was wondering if I could go from a single output straight to my PC? Is that going to work or do I need to have use both? I’m a audio hood (just make videos don’t record sounds but want to start)

@@BrentODell thanks for the reply. I have a condenser mic that I link up to my PC at the moment and does not have phantom power. Powered throughte PC sound card so limited and not amazing. I want a AInterface to bump the sound quality. and I'm looking to start podcasting. I stream and make seated tutorials so would like the controls that this offers the output side is what stressing me out haha
@@MichaelHoughton_ For what you are describing, something like the Mackie ProFX6v3, or a similar mixer with a build in USB interface, might work best. It has phantom power for your microphone(two, in fact) allows four different channels of output from the computer(or two, stereo channels) which can be assigned to different mixer channels, and offers several options for hooking up headphones of speakers.
Hardware synths have latency too. After all, they also have a DSP that generates the sound and a DAC that converts the signal from digital to analog. What you're actually measuring is the difference in output latency between the computer and the hardware synth. When you set the buffer size to a very low value, the latency of the computer is lower than the latency of the synth. That's why the Massive is recorded ahead of the Behringer.
Well, kinda. The MS101 is an analogue synth so there’s no DSP or DACs although we don’t ever really experience those sorts of latency. I mean there’s cosmic latency in all transactions of energy but you don’t feel it as a lag in your playing. So in this instance it’s more of a mechanical latency, but the only point is that the Audio2 is good.
Interesringly, your sound quality when talking is great - what microphone were you using when you were speaking to the camera? Sounds like a cardioid shotgun microphone? Is that also plugged in via XLR?
Not as such. Cracking could be a few things: dodgy cable, Earth/ground loop or clicks and pops because of your computer cpu. The first two will be there all the time, the cpu thing should match spikes in cpu use when playing instruments.
I was wondering whether, when the surface goes to sleep with Komplete Audio 2 connected by usb, do you need to unplug/plug in the interface for it to work again, like I have to do with the NI Audio Kontrol 1... yes, I do realise this is a ever so slightly older interface by NI...

Thanks! For your budget there are plenty of great choices and all of them will do the job of recording spoken word. As a beginner I'd recommend the Audient EVO interfaces. Hello :). I am a bit concerned. When I turn up my out 1/2 volume, absolutely nothing happens. My headphones are plugged into the headphone jack. When I record audio, and I turn up the knob while talking, the volume will not change. Is my interface not working properly, or am I misunderstanding something?
Difficult for me to say from here - the headphones has its own volume knob but it depends on what you're listening to - spend a bit more time with it and i'm sure you'll work it out.
For just playing guitar sims would you go with this one or the MOTU M2? Which sounds better for amps sims using headphones? Right now I'm on ancient guitarport, but it's on its last legs, tried the Scarlett solo, and had to return it as it sounded awful. Also tried an Audient Id4 which sounded beautiful but when I used high gain I got screeching painful noises out of it when my guitar volume was off, so that didn't work either as having to turn the volume off on the unit every time I didn't' want to hear my guitar was too much hassle and painful if I forgot to do it and had my headphones on. I'm thinking maybe a guitar-specific device might be better for guitar amp sims? I'm currently using AmpliTube 4. I would try the Axe I/o but it's more than I want to pay.
For around a similar price point audio interfaces will sound similar. I like the M2 but for other reasons than sound quality. All you can do is try and see.
Hi there, I still do not understand how headphones monitoring is happening? Mic in the left ear and guitar in the right? Or can I do real time monitoring in both ears equally?
May be a stupid question but would the following setup work with this - microphone in / headphones & speakers out whilst having music playing from computer I.e. iTunes so that I would have music playing out speakers whilst being able to hear the microphone over the music? Thanks!
@@MoltenMusicTech the device you were using to hear what you were playing through the monitors instead of the headphones. You had it plugged into the headphones jack on the interface.
@@Brizniks The hum eliminator box that's allowing me to plug the headphones into the larger system? It's a Behringer HD400 Hum Eliminator - i'm just using it as a jack to jack adapter.

No, no you can't. Your software (usually) can only support one audio engine. So you can use the KA2 or your PC's audio, not both. It has a headphone output - use that - you dont have to use speakers.

No, the exact opposite. If you are recording via the KA2 then you MUST listen via the KA2. It has a headphone output so you dont have to use speakers. Is that clearer?
Can you only monitor through the headphone output in mono? I would like an interface where I can use headphones in stereo but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about this anywhere!
@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow Yes..... it will do a nice high resolution but that's not particularly important. Recording at 24bit and 44.1kHz is plenty and will be less strain on your computer. It will sound great. It's not going to sound $2,000 great, but it will sound great!
Very much the same design as the Fast Track C400. Which is great as I think it was underrated. Must be the same designer as he left shortly after designing the C400 / C600. I wonder...
there were lots of audio interfaces with same kind of I/O, I've got old Tascam US-144II, but I doubt it performs as good at lower latency (it heavily depends on PC to compare).
Which one? There are two jack inputs on the front, two jack outputs on the back and a headphone jack socket - they are for plugging in things! Can you be more specific?
There are two outputs on the back, one for Left and one for Right both on 1/4" or 6.3mm jacks. These are the main outputs and you would plug these into your speakers or amp or mixer or however you hear stuff.
Apple and WIN10 ( not others) it is not today big difference in SO reliability and the audio too, at least with steinberg drivers ( not so good hw, but the inventors of ASIO and VST...so...). pls excuse my eng_ if i will try NI K2 and it is good with win10, i sell my UR 242 and buy this or audient, if not i stay with my steinberg ( with too much low output compared to my old FW card, MOTU ultralite, driving my monitor, mackie hr828

I’m asking if you have tested your headphones with any other piece of equipment - do your headphones normally work? If so then I need more information like can you play back regular music or RU-vid videos? What software are you using? What is this recording you’re talking about? Do you know what panning is?
