You should start asking all these people how they bought their M6. 1 year into photography and dropping 3-5k for a camera. DAMN, son what did he sacrifice!
Alvin is brilliant. Really love his energy, warmth and general positive outlook. Will definitely follow him on IG. Oh and congrats Paulie on an amazing (and extremely addictive) series
I love this series so much. It blows my mind how short of a time some of the people featured have been shooting and just how good they are already. Big motivator :-)
Honestly, I don't really believe in areas being "overshot". Because what's reality, anyway? If five people walk through Manhattan, what they experience are five different realities. Five perspectives on the same scene should result in five different takes on a photograph, otherwise you might want to think about how much this shot actually represents your own individual style compared to if it might be just a generic shot that you think others would expect you to take.
I love your style of Interview/Street BTS. I seriously watch 90% of YT videos at 2x Speed, in part cuz I follow too many photography channels :). But I just really enjoyed the pace of this one and was just taking it all in.
Love this kid. And then on top of that at around the 11 minute mark he mentions Luc Delahaye who is a legend that doesn’t get talked about much these days. That guy went through Russia with the contacts G2 and a 35 mm lens and crushed it. Yo, what is he rating that portra 800 at? Love, the exposures.
I'm re-watching the whole series rn and I gotta say it's definitely worth it. I picked up some gems I probably missed the first time. Also this episode is really cool and I love Alvins style of shooting.
Get a job. Have a job and can’t afford these bodies? Work overtime. Can’t work OT? Try a side hustle. I didn’t win the Meg Million Dollar lottery. Mask On Nurse Marty
It seems like a Leica is a prerequisite for a lot of new street photographers. I’ve never held one but what Am I missing? I love shooting with my FE2 and G1 Contax. Is it the quiet shutter or just the way it feels in the hand?
Rangefinder. It allows you to near immediately focus through the viewfinder and get instant sharp photos. Add to that that they're handmade, with some of the best lenses and optics ever designed for consumer cameras, small, quiet and they stand up to an insane amount of punishment and they're the Rolls Royce of street photography cameras. However they're also overhyped and overpriced. Like if I had the money I would have one but equally I also don't feel like it would make a huge difference to my photography.
I can’t believe how much street photography has blown up!! Back when I would shoot in NYC in the 90s, you could easily get ppl fucking with you for pointing a camera at them!! Glad ppl are more chill!!
Talking about seeing things with a fresh mind, as someone who shoots in fucking Iowa of all places I’d love to trade places and see what we come up with. I can’t think of shit to shoot here and just watching these videos I see a million things I’d shoot.
Some nice images. I’m an old guy. I can’t imagine going back to film. I have a 35mm and rolli but don’t use them. Every time I press the shutter it is a $1 or more. I don’t have the discipline not to take the picture. When I walk the street I take between 250 and 500 images. I’d hate if I was Paying ~$1 per shot. I only like maybe between 2-5% of my images. I lived in Coney for two periods. Wasn’t into photography at those times. What a shame. Never went to Mermaid parade. Never like parades before I put a camera in my hand. Mask On Nurse Marty
