Living in Northern Michigan, there's been an influx of folks moving to my very rural are, to escape the city. I am always amazed when someone buys a beautiful plot of wooded land, take down every tree in sight, and the go and buy incredibly expensive nursery versions of the trees they just destroyed.

In regards to nativars, bloom shape, such as double blooms, usually render then infertile and bees and insects can’t get to nectar or pollens that are there. Sterility is a common result of clonal nativars, which means no pollen. No pollen, no protein for insects, especially bees.

When I hear about tree plantings of large numbers of trees I always wonder how those young trees are being cared for after planting . I live in northern Baltimore county and if you don't protect young trees from deer (and possibly rabbits and some rodents (?) Etc) you may loose a lot of them . I wonder how often people involved in such plantings go back then or fifteen years later to count his many of those trees survived .
