Natively Running Windows 7 on Acer C7 Chromebook 

Honestly can't thank you enough for this video! I got my Chromebook (same model) up with Windows in under two hours from start to finish (still working on getting the right drivers). Thanks again for your awesome work!!

Excellent guide. Clear, detailed, great audio and video quality. Hope you get it all working. I have a Packard Bell Dot S C dinky little Windows 7 netbook but the 1024 x 600 resolution is a little annoying and the speed is poor because it only has 1GB (hope to upgrade RAM soon). Was hoping to get a better one (Chromebook) and install Win 7 but I didn't realise how difficult it was!

Many Thanks to Johnny Phung and John Lewis, i got the same model unit chromebook and followed step by step and guess what its a Success. Installed Windows 7 (32bit) on it and it did great. The only thing is that we cant use the keyboard and touchpad, but the external mouse and keyboard did OK. hope theres a way the keyboard and touchpad will work on this chromebook. And again MANY THANKS TO YOU BOTH.

I finished install Linux Ubuntu in my Chromebook following the video Instructions. I got a new and very functional laptop. Thanks Johnny for your assistance

I GOT WIFI WORKING WITH THE WINDOWS INSTALL!!!!! I replaced the wifi card with a Broadcom BCM4313. I let windows search and install the driver......... Any luck on a keyboard and track pad????

I can see you've done this before! :D Just a couple of notes - You don't need to specify the "-p" option with ChromeOS's version of Flashrom, and it would probably also be an idea to check the output of crossystem to ensure both write protect on boot + write protect current are disabled (0) prior to flashing. Well done, and thank you for your donations. I expect to have a C720 in the coming days, so donations will now go towards the new HP 14 Haswell Chromebook.

I'm already running Ubuntu LXDE 13.10 64bit using chrubuntu and everything works including the touchpad!!! I was going to wait for the warrenty to lapse, but screw it, I'm going for it... Why is it saying booting from hard disk when im using a usb sd reader before it goes to windows. I have followed every one of your instructions and then this stays like this for hours

I was thinking this could be done with a newer Chromebook, that used Plop to bypass the Linux BIOS and installed directly to the drive, but this seems pretty rad as well. Will have to see what can be done.

Johnny, could you perhaps put a big warning at the top here, about using the wrong ROM? I've had a few people, who I think have seen your video, flash the recommended ROM to a 1007u based C710, which of course breaks the graphics. It's not even good enough to base it on the model number as Amazon et al have an incorrect spec listed for at least one model of C710. People really need to run "cat /proc/cpuino" and confirm which CPU they have before downloading the appropriate ROM. Thanks, John.

Wow! This is awesome! Now you could play any game on a Tegra K1 powered device! Tegra K1 chipset is 30% better than xbox360 and ps3 and the same as xbone and ps4. After installing the drivers you could run GTA IV at Ultra graphic settings!

After installing Windows 7 did you notice if the External VGA and HDMI ports work when using Windows? Also does your 3.5mm jack seem to get stuck in Digital mode at times and you cant get sound on analog devices plugged into the jack?

For everyone looking for drivers the c7 is the same hardware as the ao756 windows PC so the drivers should be the same after you get windows on it

Most likely not because the drivers installed on your other laptop will not match the Acer C7 hardware.

There are certain versions of SeaBIOS for Chromebooks that don't contain ACPI info and thus Windows Vista and up (7, 8, 8.1, 10) won't boot leaving the only OS's available to run are Windows XP and below and all versions of Linux.

I don't think many of the other components would work at all without the chipset drivers. Such as usb, sound, lan, power button, or bluetooth. But good luck though!

DVD-ROM drives and older CD Rom drives have those jumpers. I have a bunch of them...

Have you experimented with the PCI-E Wifi slot, mabye a different card or any PCI-E devices?

I have done a lot of hacks on many things and I won this chromebook from my work and decided I would give it to my son. He wants a laptop with windows8.1 on it. I looked at the different BIOS options from that page and cant figure out which one I should flash to this chromebook. The Acer c7 chromebook is model C710-2055. Which rom would be best to use for windows8.1 and are there directions on how to flash the orig rom back and how to backup the chrome OS?

I need your help please, my computer is an Acer c710-2847 I followed all the instructions, but when I start the computer, the seaBios not working. Not even shows me the options to choose... therefore I can’t read the USB. I don’t know what to do; I don’t know how to come back to "Chrome OS" and I can’t boot from the USB ...the only option is to go to the GRUB command-line but I don’t know how to use the original file that I saved in the Downloads folder... johnny i know this is a bit off topic but, i have an issue. my chromebook c7 is about a 2 years old now, about a month after i bought it i decided to run it through chrubuntu, so i did and everything worked fine. until i decided to boot it back into chrome. that's when i started experiencing wifi connectivity issues. im still having the issue but i am now running chrome os. i have decided to create a recovery usb, pull out my hard drive, plug it into my old computer and wipe the hard drive...... what do you think, should i? should i not? any better ideas

Hey Johnny, thank you for sharing your video, it is very straightforward. But i got up to flash the rom with c7.rom aka "coreboot-parrot-grub2-good-23102013.rom" everything was success. tried to shutdown chrome, it was shutting down, but light was still on. Had to manually press the power button. Now my computer starts with this seabios and when it starts up, my usb wont show up. and it eventually leads to a blank screen. help!

You used the wrong one for Windows. It is not bricked but you do have to install Linux to flash the correct BIOS. You might even be able to just boot a live distro of ubuntu to flash it back. I am working on a video on how to flash it all back to normal or to another ROM.
