NATO Allies train in Arctic Norway
NORWAY
02.26.2024
“Nordic Response 2024” is part of NATO’s biggest exercise in decades called “Steadfast Defender 2024”, which sees 90,000 forces from 31 Allies and soon full NATO member Sweden train together across various NATO countries and multiple operational domains.
Troops participated in amphibious operations training as they got ready to engage in the field exercise, which is running from 3 to 14 March. Finnish, French and Swedish forces have embarked on the US Navy’s USS Gunston Hall, an amphibious assault ship. Meanwhile, the Netherlands Marine Corps have practised amphibious landings on Sandstrand beaches near Harstad. Additionally, Italian marines from the San Marco Marine Brigade have trained their sharpshooting skills in the freezing Norwegian Arctic.
Working together in such a hostile environment enabled these soldiers from several NATO countries to increase their efficiency and strengthen their resilience in order to operate in all climate conditions, while at the same time testing their ability to deploy from all corners of the Alliance.
Footage includes shots of the Netherlands Marine Corps practising amphibious landings, Italian troops from the San Marco Marine Brigade practising sharpshooting skills and getting trained by the Norwegian Army in winter survival skills, as well as members of the Finnish Nyland Brigade boarding USS Gunston Hall. Footage also includes an interview with the Commanding Officer of the US Navy’s USS Gunston Hall.

@sixpackpilot
@sixpackpilot 2 месяца назад
Indeed a Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle. BARVs have been a thing since the Normandy landings in 1944 (based on Shermans) to assist amphibious landings. Both UK and NL marines each have 4 BARVs based on Leopard 1 tanks. The NL and UK BARVs however are separate designs, but on a similar chassis. They got a new superstructure to fit their purpose of pulling/pushing vehicles, equipment up/around the beach. Also the gearing has been lowered quite a bit to increase traction, sacrificing unnecessary speed, raised air intakes fitted, auxiliary power unit added, added working platforms, (rubber) nosing blocks, etc.

Urho Kekkonen is twisting in his grave seeing Finnish conscipts on an American warship. What was in the head of Sauli Niinistö when Finland applied for membership in NATO? When American isolationism is back in force it will only mean that Finland again stands alone and "the branches of the Karelian pine will once again hit the heads of the Finnish politicians", Linna Tuntematon sotilas. Perkele

@@ospehu1 Sure, Finland is far better prepared than back then, but you still need to stay in touch with the reality. Like we're seeing in Ukraine now, ruzzia doesn't give a crap about how many people they loose, they just pour more meat into the fight. Of course there are limits with that strategy too, even with ruzzia. Finland would probably deal very bad blows to ruzzia, but it's still better to be backed up by an alliance.
