@MrThartofwar Russia has not faced a fully equipped opponent ever in its existence. The only time it did, the USSR was about to fail before lend lease saved them
I really hate this “what will russia say about this” mentality. We have to send more weapons. Period. For years. And let the ukranoans decide what and how they attack.
It has not helped secure Western Europe with most of the countries being penny-pinching for decades. Praise to Poland and a few others for pushing hard. Time to triple down on military spending.
@@dan9002 Yes we have to increase the spending and also support to Ukraine. It is well worth to sacrifice more of our current inventory and send it to the front lines. We also need more "advisors" in Ukraine to operate even more advanced systems. NATO need to take the gloves off and end this.
And that is exactly why Russia will eliminate the clear threat, and take more Ukrainian land, Ukraine refuses peaceful negotiations and prefers aggression, that says it all, giving validation to Russia eliminating the Ukrainian threat, like they fully warned they will :)
More planes than pilots. That isn't a terrible thing. Fighter jets go down for maintenance frequently. In a war zone, 40% readiness will be an accomplishment.
You need 3 pilots per airplane. Plus 3 shifts of maintenance personnel. Ukraine has 4 partially trained pilots and 30 maintenance personnel in training. None of them will be ready for combat years.
@@donwyoming1936 Part of what you say is simply incorrect, maybe if it were 30 years ago. Also, Ukraine won't be flying sorties 24 hours a day. The F-16s Ukraine receives will be used in a specific strategic role, given the dynamics of how the war is evolving.
For a while Macron was talking about sending French troops to Ukraine, and then he announced elections, and no more talk about the French troops. Nor any other country like Baltics or Poland. Poland sending troops into West Ukraine would really make sense. Poland lost territory to Ukraine after WWII. Go in to "protect" it, and never leave, just wait for Ukraine to collapse.
90 planes means at least 180 pilots. - not 20 sooooooo if you could train 20. you could have trained 180 at the same time. emmmmm. something does not make sense does it
@DW: It's not a "game" nor are there "game changers" in war. People's lives matter. The English phrases: game, game-changer are innapropriate, over-used, and unprofessional, unethical. The wicked view war as a game, innocent people's lives as a "game". If Russia attacks you, will you view such as a "game" and/or "game-changer"? Do you view German lives as a game? The point is, war is not a game nor game-changer, and people that speak English are mostly the only ones that use such garbage phrases. What does that say about the mind-set of said English speakers? Hmm...
@@Nauda999 Something better than "game" and "game changer". Even "strategy upgrade" "tactical upgrade" etc is better and more respectible to the victims of war than that of "game" and "game-changer". Otherwise, they reinforce the view of soldiers more and more of them being just pawns for politicians and they're pathetic struggles through use of soldiers. No fellow vets I know (I know a lot of vets and I myself am one too), view wars as a "game" nor "game changer". Words matter. Games don't.
@@linguist8623 While I agree that words matter, wars are more about killing and less about words. Someone gets offended by words, tough luck. People die in wars, and dead are never offended.
In theory they should only fly out of a Ukraine loaded with weapons to attack. If they start doing so from NATO airfields, than we're all in trouble. If Russia attacks NATO than we're all in trouble bc that's can only end in a nuclear exchange.
Every time DW or BBC releases a video on Ukraine, the comment track goes nuts with Russian astroturfers and bots. At this point it's gotten to be a joke, with how insane the comments on these videos get. I'm honestly surprised they still allow commenting on these videos at all by now. edit: case in point, look at the replies.
It’s a good sign when Kremlin flood the comment section tho. It means it’s an important topic for them and the video is on to something, hitting a nerve. The more Kremlin in the comments, the more the content worries them
@Stuenestoppen2 yeah, the russian comments almost smell as desperate as Putin asking one of the poorest countries of the world (North Korea) for help..... Well, some people can´t b helped...🤷♂
How about a poll to see if American people want to help Ukraine and start WW3. The American people are sick of seeing our money go overseas and provoking Russia. We don't want a nuclear war over Ukraine
US money stay in the US. The amount of money spent on it is laughable - its like 5% of the US MILITARY budget. Also helping Ukraine is making sure RUS will not attack say Baltic countries and preventing WW3. Also RUS will collapse economically soon, at its own wish.
It’s more like 20 F16 against around 100 Russian fighters. Should be a fair fight. They only need to stop the planes dropping the glide bombs. Not the bombs themselves.
The plane is not an issue, it is pilots and training. UA population is badly educated, barely anyone speaks any English and that makes training staff super hard.
Russian bot here..Just like the Ahbrams tanks and the Bradleys, these planes will have no impact on the war, six months from now the next "wonder weapon'' will be??😂😂
And before you know it Russia will have depleted their inventory and have shown the USA everything they do. The west is literally playing war games from the sidelines right now.
So after more than a year of being told that F16s were going to be “Game Changers” multiple times a week….we find out that F16s are NOT going to be “Game Changers”….shhhhhocking
@@JC-rr1wu Read the news; Game Changers was synonymous with F16. Two words that should immediately raise suspicion: Game Changer Amazing. The moment you come across them, you know that the author is at best, misguided
The problem with that is They'd be classified as Mercs therefore ineligible for protections afforded via Geneva Conventions. Meaning you bypass the POW camp and straight to the Windchime Stand aka Gallows.
So this Christopher guy is not worried that F-16s flying from Poland to bomb Russia or the Russians fighting in ukraine is not a 5-6 step escalation ? :)😊
You may be a coward always fearing “oh what will the bully do”. Obviously that means no one who actually is involved in making defense policies won’t bother about such concerns. That ended with Chamberlain. Because we know that not doing anything is what escalates a bully. It is very clear: Russia is violating the UN charter and the international agreement it has signed and hence are conducting not only an illegal aggression, but are engaged in an illegal annexation of land. The international community, according to international agreements Russia has signed, has the right to aid Ukraine in defending itself. Not only by sending arms, but actually by sending troops too. Some would also argue that the international community also must aid in protecting the UN charter and international law buy providing resources to end Russias crime. Russia as the illegal aggressor is always the one who escalate the situation if the situation escalates. Never the defender.
@@abrakkehakka1357 Regardless what is legal or illegal, in April/May 2022, Ukraine was asking for USA/NATO to provide "no fly" zone over Ukraine, and then Ukraine was told to stop asking or talking about that. Yet it would be exactly same thing, NATO military planes would fly from NATO countries into Ukraine, why do you think it has not happened yet? on Day 860?
@@abrakkehakka1357 look, nobody discusses who is or is not the aggressor. There is no place for discussing who is right who is wrong. Let’s them draw a line and say there will be a war with you, Russia . What is questionable is pushing ahead, crossing others’ line and not being ready to go to war
@@abrakkehakka1357 taking a stand against a “bully” or not being coward means you strike back, draw a line. This is different from what the west does - putting a gun in the head of a minor, in this case Ukraine, and hiding behind the wall and yelling I don’t want a war with this bully
To be precise, Ukraines airforce is bigger than ever before (drones)... ^^ Regarding jets: Ukraine bombed some stuff on Russias territory a few days ago. I think you either missed some news or only watch russian media
Putin will cry hahah because of his bright mind Russia doesn't have enough tanks and aircraft to defend itself hahah what a red carpet for f16 to strike cremia with out proper defense
If they are as effective as NATO is hoping, they will be a game changer. Russia doesn't control the Ukraininan airspace, but they sure faced few challenges within it. The F16s may well change that. Of course if an F16 shoots down a MIG 29 or an SU 57 over Russian airspace than the game may change.

Russia is now thriving. The world Bank just upped their status. War economy the west can't catch up with until 2026. Ukraine is just about out of men There's nothing that will change the fact that NATO miscalculated the entire thing.
@@alberthenriette8976 They obviously are totally unable to. Russkiy duzha is just their heritage from the mongol horde.
These jets are either on there way to the junk yard or replaced by the F-35. Instead of sending them to be scrapped might as well make use of them by sending them to Ukraine. No different when Russia pulls out 60yrs old equipment and sends them off to Ukraine like the T-64 tanks, if a weapon still has a use might as well utilize it.
@@sirxavior1583 on their way to the junk yard, are you out of your mind. The F16 is being replaced by the F35, not because it is defective or out of date, it is simply because the F35 is more advanced and we have the money to improve our air force.
@@timkincade9763 Of cause the Putin regime will hit the airfields as much as they can. Let's hope the Ukrainians will get Patriot and other systems enough to make the asphalt repair teams able to fix the runways fast enough in the transition period.
00:00 - _"Ukraine's battlefield position has been largely static"_ What tosh, it's been in slow retreat for months now, lying doesn't alter that fact. The F16s have to make a difference, but how fast they can be assimilated into daily military operations is difficult to say... friendly fire from them or upon them takes place in mature airforces, so dumping them into this battle isn't going to be easy. High tech appears to have cancelled each other out returning a large chuck of the battle to the kind of trench warfare seen in both world wars, which replies heavily on 155 rounds, and thats the kind of grinding warfare Russia excels at, beefed up and supplied by the North Koreans.
Has Ukraine got ground protection for these aircraft.? Surely this would have been one of the first questions to have been asked and answered by the Ukrainian Government and MOD, and those countries supplying the aircraft.? Russian seems to be able to hit the airfields within Ukraine as has been demonstrated in recent days. 😕
Is Ukraine taking ground back.. NO they are not. They put up a great fight and are very brave but time to negotiate before it gets worse. If NATO has to jump in expect a nuclear exchange. if Russia violates the peace treaty or cease fire or NATO then it's War .
Currently the war is going much better for Ukraine than Russia. Russia is spending around 40% of its GDP on the war. It lost billions of income thanks to sanctions and has to sell its natural resources for cheap. It had to ask one of the poorest countries in the world for help (North Korea). Russian conscripts are being send to the frontlines with less than a week of training, rusty weapons and no protection. Even wounded soldiers are being send back into battle without the chance to heal. Russia is reusing their 50+ years old tanks and the western tank-depots are mostly depleted. Around one third (?) of the russian fleet got destroyed, even though the Ukraine doesn´t have a navy anymore. Russia bought around 2000+ golf carts from china and is using those, as well as bikes, at the front, leaving their soldiers unprotected. The amount of deserters and people fleeing from conscription is higher than ever before. Russian soldiers at the front refuse to fight and basically begged the Russian government for help - does that sound like winning to you ??? The list goes on and on.... a full occupation of the Ukraine is unlikely and Russia is paying a very high price for following Putins insanity. A price Putin might not be able to afford. Currently Putin wasted already tens- if not hundreds of thousands of russian lifes as well as the military power, economic power, geopolitical power and wealth built up in decades - for what exactly ? He will sacrifice everyone and everything for his dream of ruling a new russian Empire, not stopping at all at murdering his own people when they speak up

@@englishmaninmedellin7294 That is part of the plan, add in the US contractors news are talking about. The biggest problem is if airfields are located in Ukraine how to protect them, and if one in Romania is used to convince Russia not to strike Romania or it would make this whole proxy war pointless since it would go directly full scale war.
Adding F-16'S might be first used for air to air while the Migs can be used for air to ground. Basically more aircraft will enhance the Ukrainian Air Force. Real War is not a Video Game. The real difference is that the F-16's radar range and ordnance weight is 3 times that of the Mig-29 not to mention the vast array of ordnance the F-16's can fire. That means a F-16's can see a Mig-29 3 times further than a Mig's radar can and fire on it before the Mig knows anyone is there. That is the real change on an air to air battle. This establishes a wider range for Ukrainians Air Force and a much smaller one for Russia, here by reducing Russians use of combat aircraft in the conflict because of fear of them being lossed.

Especially when we know and have known since the start that Ukraine is not likely to beat Russia even with the help of the collective west despite them not even being in NATO.
Saab griffon is more suitable for operating in Ukraine because Swedish planes are designed to be maintained by conscripts and reservists and designed to be operated with less resources than the F16. Griffon is similar to late model F16 but little smaller. The advantage of F16s are they are given to Ukraine.
