What separates Gary from the rest is his calls. Sure, it might be me, who watches primarily the Mets announcers, but Gary's calls stick with me for a while. It's not just the shticks of Carpenter and Santangelo ("See! You! Later!" and "There goes the no-hitter" over and over). Gary knows when a moment is special or incredible and adds a little more oomph to it. Three that come immediately to me are: 1) Chavez catch: "Perez deals. And a fastball hit in the air to left field that's deep. Back goes Chavez, back near the wall, leaping and ... HE MADE THE CATCH!!! He took a home run away from Rolan! Trying to get back to first Edmonds, he's doubled off and the inning is over! ENDY CHAVEZ SAVES THE DAY!!!" 2) Santana's no-no: "HE STRUCK HIM OUT! IT HAS HAPPENED!!! In their 51st season, Johan Santana has thrown the first no-hitter in New York Mets history!!!" 3) Bart's homer: "Colon looking for his first hit of the year. (Ron: Oh!)
