Chris has a few jobs I wished he had a safety cage on his cab. Glass can be replaced people can't. Just be safe out there just not for you but your family
I could watch those machines working and you work on those machines all day long is so comforting and is it so easy the way they knock down the trees and dig up that dirt, it's nice to watch different machines you're working on. thanks for sharing
Sorry about the tree-revenge. See if your glass tint installer will travel to the glass supplier's shop. Tinting the glass prior to install may be a lot easier for them. I put IR-blocking tint on my car's windshield and when it was broken. Replacing it, I did this before the new glass was installed and got a discount. Possibly saved a day or so as well.
Well as long as its cracked you dont have to worry about it getting broke just keep from breaking it worse lol, worst part is all the cracks reflecting the sun like a mirror from 40 different directions. I thought that piece of wood was coming in the cab with you, hell i ducked out the way😂
It’s a why mill it when you can sell off existing stock that’s been sitting from the slowdown at ever increasing prices situation. Not a political problem just a side effect of our chosen economic system; see artificial scarcity.
Dang, Chris! I feel your pain. Reminds me of when I parked my brand new car under a nice shady tree only to have a summer thunderstorm drop a huge branch right on the roof. Sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t play fair.
I feel your pain. Replaced the windshield in my wife’s car and she was on her way home and someone kicked up a rock and broke the new windshield in the first 10 miles.
I have had the same thing happened to me not once but twice didn’t even get 15 miles from the glass place and passed a big truck and spiderweb a brand new windshield had to turn around and go right back the guy felt so bad for me he didn’t even charge me any labor for the new glass
I've got a Cat skidder, I brought a limb through the door last summer. Now it's got a poly forestry door. Shattered glass went all over me. Was super grateful for sunglasses that day.
Until I started watching your channel, I was unaware that equipment could be operated without spider glass! Maybe just let it be broke for a bit? That way we can keep telling you "you really need to fix the windshield..." Thanks for what you do.
Well, that reminds me of what my uncle told me when I started driving over the road, if I don’t replace a $470 windshield a year, I’m very lucky! That’s all the joys of owning equipment, as you stated!
OMG!!! Just a bummer - Sods law - you have had nothing since that fire damage to your controls at the last dam project. Suppose it's all part of the risks of the job. At least you are making good progress and should be finished in a few days. What a difference to the area. I am sure the owners will be well pleased with the finished product. (Dopn't cry yourself to sleep tonight!!!!) lol. Regards from Scotland and stay safe and well Chris.
Having just learned how to do window tint it’s really not that hard. The supplies can be had on Amazon for cheap and that’s a nice big flat section to do. RU-vid is you friend if you want to try it.
You might need a catchers mask, Chris! Be careful brother! Yeah brother it’s looking like fire time, can’t wait and I like watching you use the other trees to break up the trees in your grapple! That’s cool!
It make it all the more enjoyable listening to the trees being crushed by your one of a kind bucket. Fire at one end of the excavator and tree branches at the other. At least there is no snakes.
I hope those logs pay for the wind shield my friend! So sorry about your windshields my friend! Glad you’re safe and thanks for sharing the video Chris! I can’t wait to see the next one brother! Hopefully you’ll be the Fireman! lol
Its bn a long time since ive broken a screen too but i feel ur pain chris . I had a stick come in through the bottom window of the jcb exavator i was on . Gave me one hell of a scare . But it really pisses you off when stuff gets broke . No matter what it is .
Oh, I know that the cost of replacing that windshield will be cutting into your profit (and I hate that - you work so hard). Glad that you didn't get hurt though. Love watching. Keep up the excellent work. My favorite RU-vidr....
We are having the same luck with Volvos this week. I was replacing the wiper blades on my V60 wagon I just bought a few weeks ago and while trying to figure out the clip on the new one the wiper arm slammed down into the glass. Instantly developed 4 cracks. Thankfully they seem to be running horizontal along the bottom in the blacked out area so far.
Well Chris today just wasn’t your day for clearing, first the limb Falls out of the tree and breaks your windshield then the chunk of wood comes flying at you and by the way I ducked when I seen it coming. Lmaoooo but anyway brother another great video I can’t wait to see the finished product so you and John and yawls family stay safe and keep the videos coming brother
I was put on a job alone to clear over 150 trees and on my second to last day on the job I was rolling a pile of trees with my 336f and a branch snapped up and cracked my top window. The boss said as punishment they weren’t going to fix it. Two years later my window is still cracked and I’ve been squinting through the cracks at first but now it’s like if they weren’t there.
On our new Takeuchi tb216, the lower glass is in 2 slotted channels and just lifts straight out. It doesn’t help you at all but I just thought it’s quite a good idea that I’ve never seen before 🤷🏽♂️
“Welcome to owning equipment.” Yup. I just spent the whole day today disassembling a telescope mount to apply thread locker to every bolt on the mount. Lost a whole night of observing and tonight it’s raining. At least it isn’t costing me the better part of $1,500. Really enjoy your videos Chris.
You're still ahead from the ember incident though and good thing that second one missed... I wonder if they gave like some 4 to 5 feet forks to mount on that root rake so to sorta lift the bundle a little bit more when you are pushing brush....looks like they have a nice free-range collection of vintage appliance going on out back.
I was about to put the same, wont stop the imapct breaking the glass, but adds piece of mind that the glass will hold together. I worked in a scrapyard for a while, even with a fully meshed and gaurded cab, free range rebar gets the butt hole a twitching.
Mother Nature has to win a little one every now and then. Glad you shook it off before she got another one. You are amazing with those machines. But things can turn so fast - just be safer.
You might want to put a full time camera in the 220. I'm sure there's onboard 12v. Set it up like a dashboard cam, so it recycles memory and always has the latest half hour or so. That way the channel would be more likely to pay for a windshield.
Had a branch come down and took my mirror off last week. Forestry screens saved my glass. I feel your pain though. Clearing will get something on your machine sooner or later. Enjoy your videos a lot. Thumbs up.
I was clearing today with a 7000 lb mini until it got too sloppy to work in the rain. It seems to do ok on anything up to about 6-7" diameter tree. I applied some tricks I've picked up from watching you over the years Chris.
Suggestion on the glass. Get a local glass shop to cut it for you out of AS2 glass. AS2 glass is pre-tinted automotive glass which has a plastic liner in it. Nowhere near the cost that you are talking about. If you look into it on a vehicle such as the side door of a van, it is almost black but from the inside, it will be about what I see in your video. The difference between it and AS1 is the fact that it did not pass all the safety tests to allow it to be used in a windshield of a car or truck. You can also get AS3 glass which is way to dark ( limo tint ) to use if you do any night work. AS1 also cannot be tinted below the AS1 marker line which normally is already done at the top on factory glass.
The big one-piece, wrap-around, tinted windshield on my big truck was only around $400 installed and they drove to me. You're going to have to do some shopping around for a better glass guy!
Dont feel to bad...A friend of ours rented a Cat 330 and was using it to install 16 inch steel pipe. While doing so, a section of the pipe got loose from a choker and slammed into the left corner of the cab. We tried to straighten it. It cost 25 grand for a new cab.
i know this was 2 years ago but still stands for today i like you can't stand broken stuff on my machines even tho it cost me and you to keep every thing in top shape it has benefits when customers look an see how you keep every thing in top condition it helps win some of the jobs as they see some one that cares about there machines and the way you present your self in end i suffered and put scrub guards on front windows a pain to look through but if painted flat black after a bit you don't see it and not so annoying made them my self mess and such and i know it save me on few occasions after i fitted them only had on the front ones any way in the end there yours and some times you have to think of ways to save dollars they also offer some protection when you have the windows open Cheers Chris
Damn buddy . Sorry bout the windows. That really sucks. God bless and be safe buddy. Keep the videos coming . I have been watching them for about 2-1/2 years and watch everyone that comes on . I used to be a heavy equipment operator and wanting to get back in it. Not alot of jobs here in my area for it right mow. Summer is aost here so hopefully it picks uo
Since its flat glass you could always put security film, its called so many different names but ranges from 2mm to 16mm thick window tint, basically you can hit with sledgehammer and it wont crack. Comes in clear or any percentage you want.
Seems that after the Windshield break, trying to take out your frustration on the poor trees 🌳, they started fighting back with the dodge ball limb game, 😆.
Worked with my Dad for years, he always said that a contractor needs to take the bitter with the sweet--the contractor gets to make a profit per job, own his own tools, right to have days off, vacations and be independent--WOW!
You should get yourself a rain visor on top of the cab. It protects the windshield from falling branches quite good. Ofcourse not very helpful if it comes straight towards you. Also keeps the windshield dry when there is only a little rain.
I was scratching my head when I noticed in your earlier videos you didn't have cabin protection especially when dealing with trees. I have seen accidents where part of a tree has nailed the operator to the seat.
I managed to break off a hydraulic fitting in the middle of a house demo job . Of course it turned out it was the one fitting I didn’t have on my service truck. I feel your pain.
Polycarbonate takes the impact better, and you can cut it yourself. Replaced all of our brush cutting machine windows and never looked back. Molding is easy to get back on, if you use the rope and detergent trick. Remove the gasket and put it on the window, then wrap a rope around the frame side of the molding. As you pull the rope straight in, the molding will pop in. Detergent makes it slide in like butter. Truck rear windows are the same.
One of the greatest Joys in life I've discovered is watching you "toss" trees with your machine! My personal belief is that it needs to be added to the Olympics.
That your most expensive screw up Chris? Not to bad if so. I worked at an aircraft plant that made the front part of several types of jet engines. One crew was finishing up a cowl for a 747. Right before lunch break, one part of a crew set an almost finished unit down on a tool used to lift it up and flip it over. After lunch another part of the crew got to it first, lifted it up and went to flip it upside down. The first group had just sat it down and not bolted it to the tool, expecting to do that upon return. The second part of the crew was very surprised to see a $500,000 engine cowl slide off and crash onto the floor. Glad I was just a spectator at that point. The cumulative puckering dropped the air pressure enough to make your ears pop.
You should reach out to local fire dept's. Maybe one of the FF's has a connection or business that does glass/tinting. Sorry for the bad luck. I know when my little car got its first parking lot scrape, I was upset. There's nothing to do, except never drive the car if I can't accept that it will get scratches and even wrecked. I hope that you will find a good deal for the glass replacement. I like that you take care of your equipment.
I'm suprised you haven't lost more glass. I thought that splinter was going to get you! I got smacked in the face with a splinter on the dozer a while back. Dang trees always fight back.
I'm surprised that they wouldn't want to take those logs. I'm in Canada, and right now, there are shortages of construction materials. With covid, a lot of peoples have changed their habits, and have decided to move, so there's a lot of construction going on. Prices are through the roof.
There is no shortage of timber, all the mills are overfull and cutting loggers off from bringing wood. It's on the production of the materials that's still slacking causing the shortage and outrageous prices
Hey Chris In British Columbia Canada It's mandatory that you have to have a cage when working in the logging industry here to protect the operator. Have you ever thought of installing one on your machine. I run a 235 Cat and my cage can come off and on depending on the Job. Enjoy your channel
That flying piece of wood was entirely too close for comfort. I would hate to see you get hurt so very relieved to to see it missed. Take care out there, we would miss you.
