"Thinking about nature journaling is not nature journaling." So true!! I liked the tip about taking a moment to actually note the smell of your subject matter. :)

Thanks Laura! I think I need a tattoo that says "thinking about nature journaling is not nature journaling." It is easy to forget!

Hi Amy! That was really fun. I'm just getting caught up with internet stuff after being unplugged and camping for so long!

Maybe try using a clear acrylic spray after the fixative to really set in the print. Should probably still use the fixative to stop it moving but a clear coat spray would provide a thicker layer impervious to touch.

I think that is exactly what I need.

I've used hairspray for a fixative on spore prints.

Nice! That is good to know for situations where fancy art fixatives are not available.

Can you put the wet spore print in the oven on low heat to dehydrate the excess water?

that is a good idea!

Isn't the Amanita poisonous? Wash your hands very well, especially after touching the spores. Maybe that is why the millipede and centipede were dead?

Thanks for your concern. Luckily, even toxic mushrooms are not toxic in small quantities and are much safer than many things in our medicine cabinets and cleaning supplies. You can look up the LD50 of many substance online and see how much weight relative to your body weight is a fatal dose. That isn't to say that some people might have allergies to small amounts or that breathing lots of spore over long periods of time can be harmful.
