Great question. this pencil floats I think but it would still be risky. I use a rubber band to try to keep it very secure. There are also some techniques for lanyarding a pen or pencil that I want to experiment with.
I know they are amazing! I picked some as cut flowers and they opened and closed for 4 days!!! They were covered in aphids in the pond though. Millions of aphids in there. Part of what made it slightly gross. and I am not easily grossed out.
I was eager to watch this because I have a pond I'm monitoring for a master naturalist project and wanted to see how others nature journal ponds. But... nope -- not getting in! 😀 My pond is significantly smaller and only 2 feet at its deepest, but... nope! Kudos to you for taking on this "immersive" experience and sharing it with us!
Hahaha, understandable. I have other amphibious nature journaling videos where I use kayaks, paddleboards, etc. Maybe something like that or waders. Do you have waders?
