2015-2018, best 3 years of my life. I miss living there and not a day has gone by since I left where I haven't thought about it. Hopefully, I'll return for good next year.
@@seanpiggy I use to work base security when I was there. It depends on how many ships are in. Each ship has to supply so many people depending on their complement. Bigger ship = more Shore Patrol.

I miss Yokosuka, I used to walk that path especially on a shore patrol duty, i miss the fried rice at bamiyan and the yakitori stand near the chuo station.
I was stationed onboard the US MIDWAY back in the '80s & used-to go MOSTLY to Tokyo & Yokohama via the Yokosuka-Chuo & Shiori stations. I ONLY would cruise the base to go to the movies & when I didn't have enough money to travel further. I STILL speak & read a lot of Japanese, & was fortunate enough to meet a couple of Black guys (YES, I'M BLACK...) who were stationed there during the Occupation in the '50s & gave me many-MANY stories of the changes there since (To show you the MANY CHANGES: when I was there Blue-Note was a small jazz bar with a huge plate-glass window you could look right into the base across the street; NOW it's (Blue-Note) is a huge expensive touristy place in Aoyama, Tokyo). I remember when the guardhouse were still wooden, & the transition of Club Alliance from the Old Japanese Maritime building across from the Japanese Naval (JMFDF) part of the bay; I was an Asian Studies major in college & I know why that building & the Old Sanno hotel, in Tokyo was SOLD BACK TO THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT FOR HISTORICAL REASONS. I TOO MISS MANY OF THE THINGS ABOUT THAT BASE.
Same here. I rarely stayed on base unless I was totally broke, and even then I'd head out onto the local economy just to see the sights. I was also on the Midway, for her final cruise. What division were you in?
I love living there in Yokosuka from 1985-1988 when I was stationed aboard the USS Midway.. I used to take the train up the tracks from the Shiori station instead of the JR Yokosuka line, because it's cheaper and a faster way to get to the Tokyo Shinagawa station, ,
Especially if you got the Keikyu Line with the green Express sign. At least two or three times a week after knock-off, I'd catch it to hit Yokohama or Tokyo for liberty.

japan view neth no, my father has been in the navy, and this is his 10th year. The four ships we were stationed for are California, Virginia, and the other two are Japan, so odds are we will live in Japan! Super excited wherever we go!
Good question, so what happened to Chu-hi stand ? We use to take new sailors there for initiation USS Kitty Hawk 1999-2004, then CFAY for shore duty 2004-2007. Fun times. I really miss Dobuita Street. The Chu-hi stand should be on your way to Shiori station. Thanks for uploading.
