I drive by her Every day, and it's odd how attached we residents here are to her. Yes, she may have been built as a weapon of war, but the feelings that ship evokes in us here today are awe and pride (and posessiveness. She's OUR ship!) she serves as a constant reminder of the greatest generation, our Fathers and Grandfathers and Uncles who served during the war, and of the ingenuity, strength and cooperation of the American people in those days. She protected our boys, and never lost a single crewman in combat. Every time I see a video or news item about her, I get a little choked up again. That's our Big Mamie!

I totally get this. She’s a part of your history, she stood strong and never failed her crew (none were killed in action from what I’ve read), she looks bloody gorgeous, many USN sailors served aboard her and she carried the name of Massachusetts proudly in WW2. It’s the same for we Brits when we think of HMS Victory, the Spitfire and the Household Cavalry who stand guard in London. They are ours, they never let us down and like you I get a feeling of pride when I see them. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

When she came to Fall River, "I" was there, with my Dad, a boy of 11 in 1965 . . . when she arrived, she COULDN'T fit "Under" the bridge, so they waited for the tide to go "Out", but she STILL wouldn't fit . . . so they ended up cutting one of her radar masts off, an reattached it later . . . through the years I visited her "Countless" times, due to having many friends who actually WORKED on her. I "Know" the ship, VERY WELL !. . . been in a "Lot" of her unopened spaces.

I slept on the ship many times when I was a kid. I remember being in one of the turrets. All the wires were cut. We were pressing buttons and flipping switches. For a second all the panels lit up. Some capacitor or something that had been keeping electricity for 50 years finally released it. I was there last weekend and couldn't find it. They had opened a bunch of spaces since the 90s but closed others. The engine room looked different as well. I remembered being on a catwalk. But the room they have open now puts you right next to the engine.

Growing up in Boston, I had the pleasure of touring her before. Carriers may be the kings of the sea now, but when I stood in the shadow of 'Big Mamie' and her nine 16-inch rifles, it was a visceral feeling of power and intimidation that only the old battlewagons could give off. Really hope she is put into the game as a premium at some point, maybe alongside the Jean Bart.

@@kyleagronick9627 modern battleships?, last battleship launched was in 44, last in service was the Iowa's in the 90's and they're very analog, the most modern among them is likely the New Jersey, which is a museum ship and has a very active youtube channel. The analog mechanical firing computers on them was so good, they never upgraded them to anything digital, last refit was in the 80's I think and at that point it would have been a downgrade to go to a digital computer, there was likely more computerized equipment with the CWIS and the Missile launch tubes and other modern equipment that were installed, but they kept it surprisingly analog, there's video of either the Missouri or the Wisconsin I don't recall which firing it's 16" shells in Iraq during desert storm, and its done the same as it was back in ww2.

Aww hell yeah! My girl! I've been playing on the Massachusetts since I could walk. But I hadn't gone in many years, then I moved to GA, and the resulting stress and loneliness stripped away a large part of my me-ness. I forgot that that was something I did, and thought my passion for warships started because I started playing Kantai Collection. It got me back out there seeking them out again, but I'm much happier to report that my interest was never that shallow. When I came home after 2 years I found a ship encyclopedia from my first visit to BB-59, and realized that I hadn't been there in 8 years. I've always found WWII ships really pretty from an artistic perspective. That ship gave me so many summer memories, but I never paid her much attention. She was always just there. So the last time I visited, I had to give her my thanks for being such an influence in my life. For you she's a ship, for me she's more like an old friend that I missed. Sorry, this one and North Carolina are really special to me. So I tend to get gushy and sentimental about them.

Man do i love Big Mamie i had the pleasure of running about her docks as a child and using the coin rollers to flatten pennies with her likeness blissfully unaware of her storied past i always wondered why my dad smiled at her so, he served solid 10 years in the navy in the sixties aboard various submarines as a sonar man so i could only imagine he could hear her props in his earmuffs again. He always showed me about her gun deck no matter how much he protested that i see the USS Nautilus (i believe) i always was far more enamored with the colossal 15in guns of which looked like they could shatter the earth to my child like mind. when i was there the few times he took me i saw a few men whom would show up and look extremely somber and withdrawn walking her decks, i always asked my dad why they were so sad and he replied only with "if they talk to you boy I want you to thank him for his service and nothing else" looking back i see the bb-59 on their hats and know they must have lost many a friend aboard. Its crazy looking back at her all these years later learning more about her thank you guys very much.

BTW, 7DEC41 my father was an outside machinist at Fore River Ship Yard. An outside machinist works on the ship itself. My father was building components in the engine rooms. He was especially involved with the distillation units. These produced all the fresh water on board. After the commissioning he later enlisted in the Navy and go a direct enlistment with no boot camp because the Navy needed his knowledge of the distillation unit. So he went straight onboard a raw inexperienced recruit and into battle. Many thanks to the "greatest generation".

I've been there several times as a kid and that ship is HUGE! We would be on that one ship alone for around 3 hours, and there's so much other cool stuff there; too much to even start! Also right up the street is the maritime museum with the 28 foot titanic used in the 1953 20th century fox film. Oh and FYI when I went there the bridge was painted light green and rusted all over.

Should do a video on the USS California, WWI dreadnought type Battleship that saw extensive combat in WWII after being simi-sunk during the attack on Pearl harbor. Dispite having always been always use as a flagship and arguably being the most powerful US battleship (after the refit) it is one naval legend that never gets the credit it deserves.

Thinking about the French side, what a confusing and demoralizing time they had to live through. Vichy France allied with their conquerors and fought against their natural allies. I doubt those guys wanted to shoot at American ships but they had orders. And I hate to say it but a gunnery duel between a maneuverable ship and one unable to move and with only one functioning battery isn't what I'd call a fair fight.

They FAILED to mention a "Very Important Detail" . . . from her BATTLE with the French Battleship, they found out something was "Wrong" with the 16 inch shells . . . of the 5 hits that exploded, another 6 DIDN'T . . . if you examine the pictures of the French ship, you can see where the shells that "didn't" explode, actually HIT the ships armored skin, ripping it open . . . what they discovered was, the "Threading" of the detenator on the base of the shell, were "Too Shallow", which was the reason they failed to explode, actually causing them to FALL OUT of the shell on impact . . . an later shells corrected this problem . . . just a "Detail", but frankly I think an IMPORTANT ONE !

My grandpa (Carl Edwin France) served on this ship from mid 1942 to 1945. He was a machinist's mate first class. I got to go see her summer 2021 and I just cried when I saw her, partly because he died in 1994 and just the sheer size of her. While I was there I got to spend a night on her, and it was the best night of my life. There were 5 accidents aboard during her service: 1 During a hot day a sailor passed out below deck due to lack of oxygen and ended up dying. 2 Another guy came to help but he also passed out and then died. 3-4 two sailors were thrown overboard and weren't recovered. 5 My grandpa's friend was decapitated from a wire that snapped. His brains were on the deck in front of him. I just couldn't imagine that. But to all of those who have served and/or are serving: Thank you for your service, And God Bless America.

your great grandfather is a legend of the fore river shipyard. he marked rivet's he checked by writing kilroy was here. The ships were needed quickly so the rivets inside the ship that he had checked. were still marked with his drawing and phrase. it became legend of the men who served on it. Kilroy can still be seen at the USS Massachusetts, USS Salem, and USS Joseph P Kennedy. All 3 of these of these museum ships were built at this shipyard.

While history is important, they are Video Game company first and probably don't want a Marketing/PR nightmare who claim the history is "Anti-Semitic". Gneisenau has 380mm gun, Scharnhorst 283mm, Nagato 410mm, Colorado 406mm...So Tell me where the 406mm gun of this battleship is OP? Colorado has the same gun. the only ship at this tier that has a bigger gun is the Nagato. I see this being a premium ship with a real good torpedo belt and of course 100AA rating and good concealment. so it wont be OP. Stick to playing World of tanks, kid.

My father fought on the Mass. in the Pacific. His battle station was in the elevator compartment passing up powder bags to the top middle 16 in. gun turret. During the kamakazi raids the big 16 in. guns were not in action. My father told me that one night there were 26 Japanese kamakazi raids, he said that he rationalized that the whole ship would explode should a bomb or plane penetrate his compartment so he didn't worry and was calm during the raids. He told me that during one raid he fell asleep, the powder magazine was the one place that was air conditioned so he was very comfortable and relaxed. My dad turned 93 this past February of 2019. He remains my hero and I am very proud of his service on the Massachusetts.
