I'm a licensed plumber in Canada, and I just have to say I have so much respect for this person. An honest plumber is hard to find nowadays, and to find one willing to help instead of gouging the customer. That's a game changer. Keep on doing what you're doing, you're doing the world a much needed service and keeping the scummy plumbers away at the same time. :)

Given that this video is 5 years old...speaks volumes.... I couldn't just give a thumbs up and walk away. I gave a thumbs up to another video Ray did on servicing the Navien....but it wouldn't allow for comments, so I thought I'd just comment on this video since its essentially about the same topic. Ray - your videos are absolutely game changers. You explain things so well, I feel like I'm working for Water Heaters doing OTJT! Everything you covered was so thorough, it saved me quit a bit in service fees. If you guys were local in town to the Houston area, you'd be my plumbing company of choice, hands down. Performing my first flush. This video was immensely helpful. Maybe it's been updated, but I found I did NOT have to unscrew the vent pipe to get the top filter out. Just the screw holding it in, and it popped right out! Good Stuff!

Same with my unit, no top screw for cold air inlet filter. One less step 😄.
@NickVincent-q3d
@NickVincent-q3d Месяц назад
@@Hall7180 Yeah it seems a few items have changed. First, that air filter doesnt point straight out the unit, it points toward the front right corner and you only need to remove the horizontal screw that keeps the filter in place. Secondly, the dirt/debris trap in the middle is no longer circular, instead is now a very long, rounded edge rectangular piece. Otherwise it's all the same.

This gentleman has provided a fantastic ‘how-to’ video. Every step is performed perfectly in order. There are other videos out there, but this is the best. Take notes or watch this video on your iPad and do as he does, pausing the video as needed. You can’t go wrong. Each step is explained at the proper time in the proper sequence. No cover is replaced or power switch turned on, until it’s time. It is my favourite ‘how-to’ for flushing my Navien water-heater.

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ru-vid.comUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Thanks so much for this FREE tutorial! I've now performed this twice in the past year after experiencing warm water with 'hot' turned all the way up. We were able to survive a few days by 'tricking' the system--we'd run 2 faucets when we wanted hot water from 1. The whole process can take about 1.5-4 hours, depending on your skill, availability of tools, and access. We used a non-submersible pump from Harbor Freight both times. It's just a matter of matching up the correct fittings...

Called a plumbing company and they wanted to charge me $250 to descale my navien. I really like this plumbing company as they always do very good work, but in this case, I’m glad I held off and decided to see if I could do it myself. This is easy stuff, the only thing you need to get is a submersible pump. Those go for $50. 2 gallons of white vinegar = $10. So my first go around I will already have saved myself $190. And cleaning after that, I’ll keep $240 in my pocket. And all because of this video! Thank you for putting this on.

Great video, thank you. A few things I did after I was finished with the flush. #1, I took the used bucket of vinegar outside, and before I dumped it out on the ground , I neutralized it with a cup of baking soda , and poured it out where there were no plants close by. I didn’t feel comfortable pouring it down a drain into my septic system. # 2, I rinsed everything thoroughly with water that had come in contact with vinegar , including hoses, pump, and tools. # 3, have an old towel rag near by when you are doing the flush, because you will get some water or vinegar on the floor.

Thank you for this video. I paid the plumber to do this service twice, what they charge is more than what i want to pay. My son and brother did this simple maintenance with me referring to this video when we weren't sure. It is so simple but my tank is outside mounted on the wall. If i had to do it again i would never install it outside. The cold water pipes will freeze and all it takes is one time for this to happen and mine did the first two years of installation. I blame myself for dreaming on that no freeze thing. But at least it's not in the crawl space like my electric heater was. So far no more freezing but outside unless it NEVER gets below freezing don't . The only mishap was they forgot to brace the hose during the descaling and got a vinegar shower.

I watch a walk through on doing this every year just to make sure I don't forget a step. This is the best one anyone has done yet! No one ever mentioned the dirt trap in the previous ones I watched so mine was nearly full. Thank you! I have a Navien NR - 240A. Is the water filter in a different location or is my model not equipped with one? Awesome video!

Thank you. These directions were easy to follow and also apply to a Navien NPE-240A2.

This is such an amazingly helpful video so I want to thank you for this!!!! So easy to follow, there were no points of confusion, and you even helped explain even further with the handful of text overlays. Very patient, and well done video with excellent audio levels and video!!! This helped me become a rock star with my wife because we now have hot water again! After I cleaned the two filters and 'pin trap', we were good to go! But, each faucet and shower head needed to flush out for about 30 seconds with quite dirty water, I was wondering if this was expected? Also, when I cleaned the hot water filter...it was greasy to the touch. Really odd. Lastly, the clowns who put the unit in, they torqued the hot water maintenance valve in a position where it is impossible to maneuver a drain onto, there is about 2 mm of space between the maintenance valve cover and one of the mains that feed the unit from the bottom. I'd have to dismantle the hot water lead significantly, which I am definitely not skilled enough to do.
