The safe side to pass a lateral marker is determined by your direction of travel.
Heading upstream means in a direction away from the sea.
Keep GREEN starboard markers on your STARBOARD (right) side when going upstream.
Keep RED port markers on your PORT (left) side when going upstream.
Heading downstream means in a direction towards the sea.
Keep GREEN starboard markers on your PORT (left) side when going downstream.
Keep RED port markers on your STARBOARD (right) side when going downstream.
Remember: Green to green when going upstream.
Green to red when seas are ahead.
