According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 44 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the United States. Autism is a lifelong condition that affects an individual's social interaction, communication, behavior and interest. While children from all ethnicities can be diagnosed with ASD, minority groups receive a diagnosis later and less frequently. The diagnosis can be overwhelming, and parents often feel lost and uncertain about what to do next. Fortunately, there are many resources available, including podcasts. In this blog post, we will explore how podcasts like Parenting on Autism 2.0 can provide an essential community platform for families navigating the ASD diagnosis.
The Parenting on Autism 2.0 podcast, hosted by Sybil Burroughs Cornish and Sharonna Ford, features conversations with parents and caregivers of autistic children, providing support, guidance, and even a few laughs. The show serves as a community platform where families can turn to for resources, inspiration and connection. The show's hosts offer a fresh perspective on autism, and they approach the topic with an empowering message of positivity. Episodes are both informative and entertaining, which makes it easy for parents to relate to and learn about ASD.
The podcast features guests who share their personal stories of living with an autistic child, shedding light on the experiences unique to their journey. They discuss everything from the diagnosis process and early intervention to the impact on family dynamics and strategies for daily life. The perspectives of these guests offer a sense of validation and understanding that can be hard to come by for parents navigating the ASD diagnosis alone.
Parents of autistic children not only need to learn how to navigate the diagnosis but also need access to resources that can help them better understand their child's specific needs. Podcasts like Parenting on Autism 2.0 provide a wealth of practical information and ideas that can help parents create better routines and plan for daily activities. Guests on the show also share their insights on how to focus on a child's strengths instead of their shortcomings, which can often lead to a more positive outcome.
The podcast also provides insight into how parents can advocate for their child within their communities and schools. They offer advice on how to communicate with teachers and physicians effectively, and even how to navigate the complexities of insurance reimbursement. This information is invaluable to parents looking to be more proactive in their child's care.
Navigating the diagnosis of autism can be daunting for parents of autistic children, and many are searching for information, resources, and empathy. Podcasts like Parenting on Autism 2.0 provide a valuable resource for families in need of support and guidance. By providing a platform where parents can share their stories, discuss their daily lives and learn from others, the podcast helps families in the autism community feel less isolated and more understood. If you're a parent of an autistic child, we encourage you to take a listen and see how this show can help your family.

Latina mama here, my 17 yr old son was just diagnosed level one autism. I felt Sway when he said minorities get diagnosed way later and sometimes never. I balled my eyes out because I felt like I failed him all these years. There is such a lack of education and even within the home if people don’t take time to understand autism, our parenting can truly effect them. Thank you Sway for this much needed discussion!

As someone who has multiple disabilities on top of his Autism. I would really like to talk to these women because I've had such a difficult time with dealing with this especially when it comes to finding help and dealing with. It with my own family and even finding a place for myself to tdrive because it just doesn't seem like there is no place for me. It feels like even when i'm around disabled people sometimes that i'm too different. No matter how many doctors or therapists or anything else that I go to they never really have a good answer. I have done and have let them. Do things to me that I'm at this point? Not even wanting to even try because I feel humiliated by how many times I put my Faith and to not only my family but my therapist are doctors or anything else and they just disappoint Me or humiliate me or something. I can't hardly deal with it at this point. I'm 30 years old right now? And I can hardly deal with being a adult or being developed don't landscape. Cause every single person is so f****** judgmental and it's never willing to be able to look at the Details of what's going on. no matter how many fancy words or times I try to explain myself. Nobody ever gets it and it makes me so Isolated. But I have to act normal all the time. And if I don't then everybody treats me differently but I just want Somebody to be compassionate towards me. I just wand to feel like i'm wanted. Even if I can't do it I just want to be able to interact with someone. Most of my friends are d*** near impossible to even hang out with at this point. Not even going into the whole girlfriend's thing and how I feel kind of weird about that because of other stuff Traumatizing things happen to me. I just don't know what to do. Like? I. Just went to the doctor the other day and he p***** me off so much because he wasn't even willing to look me in my eyes and talk. To me when I asked Him to talk to me when we're speaking not just go to my mom like i'm some kind of child. It's hard to explain things sometimes but be f****** patient And understand i'm going to take time to be able to tell you this. Not just ignore What I said completely. And these a******* are all around the medical field. Nobody ever will lose it because most of the people who would be able to tell you about it. Having a hard enough time dealing with themselves. And even if they do they looked at a** crazy or it's not that serious or you're blowing out of proportion. Me personally i've even had a tharpist telling me that i'm not attracted enough to ask certain girls out. Then in constant fail you're after fail you're after fail. You're has to fail your hair. It's just too much and I need help.

How can this be 45 mins with not mentioning biofilm or what was going on in NY/US healthcare exposed by Erin Marie Olzewski documentary or the Mary Ann Godboldo case where a swat team was used kidnap a 10 or so year old with autism on put her on prescription that worsened her health?
