In this week's video, we wake up to day two aboard @RoyalCaribbean's Navigator of the Seas for a port day in Ensenada, Mexico.
After a quick lunch in the Windjammer, we made our way down to the port to meet and greet with the local sea lions before making our way into town. First stop: Bar Andaluz. Now occupying a portion of the former Hotel Playa y Casino, Andaluz claims to be the originator of the well known citrusy cocktail - the margarita. Ambiance, presentation and flavor of this margarita was excellent. The courtyard seating with music playing and sun shining was the perfect backdrop for sipping on a fresh made cocktail of lime juice, tequila, cointreau, and simple syrup out of bright blue glasses.
After an enjoyable drink at Bar Andaluz, we made our way down the road to La Guerrerense - a food cart touted by the late Anthony Bourdain as bein amongst the best food cart food/mariscos tostadas he's ever had - in company of restaurants with multiple michelin stars. While unfortunately the option we wanted was sold out, the mixto (mixed) ceviche was simple, yet delicious. Nothing beats a good ceviche. We even had to buy some of their own Tamarindo hot sauce. The serenade from a local musician made the experience that much better.
After an excellent treat at La Guerrerense, we made our way just a few blocks away to Hussong's Cantina - the first Cantina in Baja California, established in 1892. The second bar that claims to be the originator of the margarita. The ambiance of Hussong's was much more rowdy, loud and fun - set in a frontier/western-esque bar. The margarita itself had a much stronger pour - seemingly better suited for efficiency over flavor, of which it was not lacking either. Both margaritas were excellent, but if we had to choose a setting and margarita best suited to our tastes, it'd be the margarita from Bar Andaluz.
We finished off our day at the local fish market, and then walking the malecon back to the ship before dinner. All in all, it was a surprisingly excellent day in Ensenada. We had a great time and look forward to the next time we're in such a lively city as Ensenada!
