Quite a change from my fun-filled summer living and working relatively free as a bird to enlisting on my 18th birthday. At times, I thought I'd joined the Boy Scouts. Just listen and try to stay under the radar was the key. Was interesting, but everyone was anxious to leave for the real Navy. Go Navy! Good times!

Mar - May 1962, as a 17-year-old HS dropout. I hated every minute of it, but it was exactly what I needed at the time! CWO4 USN Ret.

I enlisted June 6 1969. I went to Boot Camp at Great Lakes Illinois. From the Lakes I went to NAS Lakehurst New Jersey. to AG A School. After A school a served almost 2 and a half years aboard USS Midway CVA 41. I finished my 4 years at NAS Glenview Illinois. Great memories. Came out an AG2.

Right on. You were only 3 months ahead of me time wise. I would have gone to Great Lakes but wanted and insisted that before I'd sign anything I was to be sent to San Diego Boot Camp. Seemed cool for a midwest boy at the time. From there ADJ A school in Memphis, Then finished up my 4 years working on jet engines as an ADJ2 at NAS Meridian, MS. Good times! As a lifetime pilot (not for the Navy though) a big salute to all meteorologists !!! Go Navy!

My stepdad was in the navy in 69 he said it wasn’t too hard but I’m sure it’s a lot tougher than it is today

I see different accounts of RTC and none were like mine in '76. We didn't do anything but take tests and stencil clothes and shine shoes and go to the dentist. We went to the TDE ship and polished the brass (and painted it for Don Rickles to film CPO Sharkey). We never handled any firearm nor learned anything like tying knots. We hit the water once for the swim test. We never played basketball or volleyball. We barely did PE at all. The day we had gas chamber I had a dental appt. Honestly it was 7 weeks of smoking cigs and shooting the breeze. Afterwards we went downtown to Sailortown strip joints at 8:00 a.m. and were bored so we got a Motel 8 and passed out and missed all of liberty. I never saw any of the guys again.

You helped pave the way. Enlisted soon as turned 18 in September. Was going to join the military in May when I graduated but Dad wouldn't sign for me. Said to wait until 18. Come to find out, he was waaaay smarter than me. Go figure. I was so stupid, I thought the marines would be a good idea.Hahahaha. You see, he really has been to hell and back in WWII. R.I.P. Pop. I have been and always will be forever greatful. Take care my friend @waynevej.

Right on @oveazeus1 !!! My Company 631 graduated in November. Got home just in time for Thanksgiving. Loved it. But instead of useing up leave I hadn't even earned yet, after a couple of days boogied on down to Millington, TN for jet engine A school. A lot of my classmates had already gone 2 weeks in the red so they missed going home for Christmas. Had to keep my .'See ya suckers' to myself. Haha. Yep, we must have been in shouting range a few times in boot camp. Charles Hansen has a GREAT NTC video at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_TKmfO71sjI.html .The good music starts 3:15. Take care my friend.

I was in company 769 during that same period. I bet we were in the same barracks building. As I recall I think there were 3 floors with a company in each one. The barracks building was almost new at that time.

An extreme long shot but www.gjenvick.com/Military/NavyArchives/USNTC/SanDiego-TheAnchor/1969-Company-708-Yearbook.html or eBay. I went in about September 15,1969 so that put me in Company 631. The earlier in the year, the lower the number.
