If you’re an IT, you’re not confined to a desk or a cubicle. Instead, you’re out fixing antennas on aircraft carriers, ensuring combat systems display accurate information and that mobile communications are operational for SEAL teams. This is no office job. You operate and maintain global satellite telecommunications systems with a tight-knit crew. Communication is key to defense-and Information Systems Technicians make it happen seamlessly. Easy summary: IT = good rate with a lot of power. Good pick up and should be easier to advance than other rates ie HM (like 5% pick up for 2nd) Radio side: deals with comms you will start off in message center formatting and delivering messages. Deals with a lot of crypto too (good luck) ADP (networking side): have fun doing trouble tickets NETSEC (network security): making sure people aren’t watching porn on the network As you can see it seems like a favorite one

IT on a carrier: Making sure email works. Also IT on a carrier: Running a few miles worth of network cable. It was awesome. If you want to do it when you get out, get some certifications while you’re in.

@jaelhinthegoat
@jaelhinthegoat 5 лет назад
David Cardenas so right now i’m in C school, i actually came from a shore command before that. Shore commands are really boring for ITs, we literally are baby sitters.. we pretty much just request NMCI (the ISP) accounts for new check ins, light maintenance on ships, and at this particular command i was at, we made laptops deployable. Taking them off the network and connecting them to a stand-alone server onboard the aircrafts.
@davidcardenas3315
@davidcardenas3315 5 лет назад
@@jaelhinthegoat That sounds pretty chill to me lol. I take it you signed for 6 years cause of the C school correct? I actually heard there's two sides to IT, system administration and radio and satellite. I'm trying to go for the IT/ATF rate, but I was wondering if you would just recommend doing 4 years with the SG guaranteed? Was A School difficult by any chance?
@jaelhinthegoat
@jaelhinthegoat 5 лет назад
David Cardenas i actually signed for 4 years. with an 8 month extension for the current orders i’m on. What’s SG? & I absolutely would recommend 4 first to see if you like it. Also, no, A school isn’t hard unless you go there resisting wanting to learn. you do have to pay attention, it’s a lot of information.

You'll either get into the networking field and troubleshoot networks, or you'll get into the communications field where you operate different systems used to communicate with the fleet using radio frequencies. You'll hear the terms "Network IT" and "Comms IT" a lot in A-school. I honestly like the comms side better, feels like you're more involved with the fleet since you are the backbone of their communications, you can also do communications on the ground with expeditionary forces like SEALs and Marines. Good thing about IT is you can go anywhere on the planet.

Thanks so much for reaching out. To serve as an Enlisted Sailor, you must be a U.S. citizen or, if you’re a non-citizen, you may join the Navy if you entered the United States on a permanent residence visa or have an Alien Registration Green Card and have 1) established a bona fide residence, and 2) established a home of record in the United States. To serve as an Officer, you must be a U.S. citizen. Only after immigration procedures are completed and an applicant is legally residing in the United States may an application for enlistment be accepted. The Navy cannot assist with immigration/citizenship. If you meet these requirements then let us know and we can connect you to a recruiter.
