The more I listen to Captain Geary speak the more respect and admiration I get for him. Such a well spoken and articulate speaker. Speaks from the heart as well. Rare.
DAMN!!! This clip really hits home to me!!! My son wanted nothing more than to be "canon fodder" (as I refer to it) for Army Infantry. It wasn't a "well, I've got nothing better to do" thing. He wanted it... BAD!!! Early on in boot camp, he fell and shattered his hip on the climbing wall. He soldiered-on through the pain... running in the Georgia heat with a heavy pack on, with a busted hip, etc, and had such a positive attitude, pushing through it far more than a lot of his fellow boot-campers. He showed leadership to the guys who wanted to quit. But the damage was done. He begged to stay on, to rehab and go through a second group (which he did). His Sgt and platoon leaders depended on him to show the other grunts the right, NEVER-quit attitude. (He still corresponds with a few of those officers). But his hip was just too destroyed and they eventually "medicaled" (I don't know the right terms here) him out at the end of his second bootcamp. It broke his heart, and it broke my heart... not because I wanted him to go to the sandbox (I didn't), but because he wanted it SO damn bad! All these years later, it still hurts him that he wasn't able to make it through. And thus, it still wounds me. God Bless you for being willing to get your injured SEAL through BUDS as a team. THAT is the epitome of "never leave a soldier behind". I SO wish my son had achieved his dream. He had NO quit in him, but sometimes it jus isn't meant to be. 😢
using positive affirmations has changed the way I teach and manage my employees. It's amazing when you lift up people instead of focusing on their negatives, they have more confidence.
I done a Commando Selection Course for the ADF with Medics, Combat Engineer's, Air Force personal, & MP's.. Anyone can have a go, but it's up to you weather you've got it or not
Check out the Discovery Documentary - BUDs Class 234. This may be what he's referring to - it details the basic selection course for SEALs which is he was showcased along with others.
