Add a “no” vote from me to the ballistics calculator survey. Until a shooter has mastered ALL the fundamentals, gadget only make the learning process slower and more convoluted. Learn to range with the reticle and call wind by reading mirage. And then just shoot enough to know what your bullets do under all conditions at all ranges.

its the matter of learning and counting. math. but if you cannot count ofc you can bleed rounds to the range.

Serious question.. Can this guy come back and do a video on how he would use his armband, metal hook and pic rail? It looks very interesting and is giving me ideas to create one myself.. Thanks if possible.

Definitely do not need a balistic computer to be a long range shooter. I've found that I can get the same dope from my whiz wheel as I can my Strelok Pro balistic solver. That being said, it is very important to have accurate atmospheric data so having any sort of weather meter will greatly enhance your ability to get proper data at distance.
@fmonk

No, but ballistic computing apps on smartphones are cheap and very easy to use.
@John-uo1qf
@John-uo1qf 2 года назад
Depends how close to the target you hope to be with your first round. I like the Strelok app for getting in the ballpark at distance. Not sure how all the dope could ever be in your head for changes in pressure, temperature and the BC for different bullets at different muzzle velocity? Of the 200 plus competitors at the Nightforce match shot in Wyoming wind last weekend, not one was without a ballistic calculator.

Savior Equipment was the first name to pop in my mind when I saw it too. We love their line of cases; affordable and the best made we have found anywhere. I am always waiting for their prices to go way up because everything is premium on their cases we have used so far.

Tosh, I think you’re an awesome guy. That being said do you prefer to shoot subsonic or super and why?
@toshiro858
@toshiro858 2 года назад
Hey Steven, it all depends on what I'm trying to accomplish. Obviously if I'm shooting for distance supersonic is the choice. If looking to engage at a short distance subsonic. That being said I live behind enemie lines so I can't own a can. So all I shoot these days is supersonic.

"Do you need a ballistic computer?" Answer: Cool to have until your battery runs out or device breaks. I just use it to confirm my loads for my dope on a new rifle and thats it.

@laceytorske6937

Great video. In my limited experience I wouldn't say one 'needs' a ballistic computer. I'm sure there's nice things having one for the guys who are shooting at a static range from a covered location that has power plugs, extra table space, and other nice commodities. For the guy who has to trek a mile or more away from the vehicle into the desert or whatever shooting area, Im sure it would be dead weight. Tosh I was curious if you keep a small molle pouch on your range bag with small spare parts for your rifles? Long story short I went on a range trip for a day and the bolt retaining pin of my bcg mysteriously broke during first mag making my rifle a paper weight. So now I keep a spare parts small bag attached on my range bag. Has gas rings, bolt retaining pin, a complete bolt(not whole bcg), spare trigger pin and other trigger parts. Also would a small tube of blue loctite be a good addition to your fix it sticks bag? incase you have to actually take off or replace something in the field and use those a tube of loctite would be beneficial.

I got off Amazon. Nothing special. It was reasonably priced and it holds all of my stuff. I've had it for awhile and it's held up. You don't need top of the line gear to get the job done.

.....in my experience, a ballistic calc., if you have the desire to use one, only gets you close, unless, .....you shoot to true everything - which is a necessity no matter what, so, no, not a need.

Tosh - your thoughts on the Rem 700 in .308 as a long-range gun?
@toshiro858
@toshiro858 2 года назад
Hey Josh, that is an excellent choice. 308 is a great round. It goes the distance and then some. It's great for close in and about 1100 yards depending on personal abilities, ammo, optics, and environmental factors. That round and weapons has been very effective on the battle field the last 20 years. Yes I'm a fan. If I had not received my DT for my retirement I would be shooting the 308. It's affordable and reliable. I'm not really sold on the 65 Creedmoor yet. Plus it's expensive.

Question, what is the barrel length of your rifle? Answer to the question of the day, absolutely not.

Hey Matt, good answered. You would be surprised a lot of our modern shooters feel they need the tech to operate. 18" 1/8 twist 300 winmag.. I use 220gr or 230 gr. The short barrel loves the heavier rounds.

Question of the day: Do you need a $8,000 load out to be a long range shooter? ------ hope not.
@ff4937
@ff4937 2 года назад
$8k is a little over-exaggerated. It's more like $6k. The Desert Tech SRS A1 is about $4k. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Most PRS or long-range shooters spend about the same amount and more when you go custom. There are a lot of long-range rifle platforms that are in the $1500 to $2000 mark, then another $1000 for some decent glass. The one on Tosh's rifle system is an Arken. It's a great scope for under $600.
@creekochee3592

@@ff4937 bro it might as well be 20k if it’s 6k. That’s so out of reach for most people who want to casually enjoy LRS

For 800 yards (which is definitely long range for most people) a quality rifle and optic can be had for $3,500 or less.

@toshiro858 2 года назад
The rifle is expensive. I received it as a retirement gift in 2015. That being said there many good quality systems out there that are reliable. The scope is about 500.00 which is a extremely affordable for its capabilities. Check out Arken optics.
